Chapter 934: 523

These three types of buildings occupied one-third of the area of the backyard.

Although there were more ordinary monks than any other, the places they lived in took up the least amount of space. On the contrary, the living quarters of the monks with positions, similar to double rooms, single rooms, suites, and finally, a singular house for one person.

Even though it was a two-story building, it still managed to showcase the status of its master.

Sean Knight guessed that the person was not the Host or the overseer; otherwise, he couldn’t possibly live in such luxury.

As the two of them surveyed these residential areas, Sean Knight could tell that the higher the grade of the dwelling, the more likely it was to see some antiques—there were fine copies of ancient Buddhist Scriptures on paper, Copper Buddha Statues from the Yuan and Song Dynasty, and maps from the Ming and Qing Dynasty hanging on the walls...

What caught Sean Knight’s attention the most was a mutton fat jade Buddha Statue in a small hall on the second floor of the two-story small building, forty centimeters tall, seated. Sky Eye could tell that this Buddha Statue must be from the Tang Dynasty!

This was indeed remarkable!

Anything from the Tang Dynasty, even tri-colored wares excavated from tombs, was extremely precious.

Not only was the Jade Buddha Statue ancient, but its jade quality was also top-notch. Moreover, Sean Knight could see that this Jade Buddha had been worshipped by countless people, its aura of faith was dazzling to the point of excess!

To Sean Knight’s surprise, the person living in this two-story building was indeed an eminent monk. Sky Eye could see that his whole body exuded strong Buddhist nature; he was not one of those profiteering business monks.

Could it be that he was mistaken?

If Xing Chan Temple and Xingya Avalokitesvara Temple were indeed related, the senior management couldn’t possibly be unaware of it.

So, how could this Eminent Monk be so "clean"?

Sean Knight went to look at other monks with his doubts.

Elijah Hastings didn’t understand why Sean Knight was pacing back and forth here.

However, the boss had his own considerations, and he just needed to follow orders. So when Sean Knight stepped back to another small building, Elijah Hastings’s attention was entirely on the surroundings, noticing any noise.

Arriving at the second small building, Sean Knight found that the area inside was clearly smaller than the first one.

There were two such buildings, both singular and with their own courtyards. Sean Knight casually observed one.

He found that although the Inside Courtyard was not large, the decoration style was very modern, with air conditioning, television, computer, and other electronic devices on the First Floor complete with everything.

The Second Floor seemed somewhat out of place. The hall was filled with Buddha Statues and Buddhist implements from ancient times; the focal point, however, displayed a Buddha Statue decorated with colored lights, which turned out to be a half-meter-tall gilded bronze statue of Song dynasty.

Even the bed where the Senior Monk slept was an ancient rosewood Zen bed, yet beside it was an eye protection lamp.

The monk who slept on the Zen bed seemed kind-faced and portly, very Buddha-like, but Sky Eye’s inspection revealed he was not really an eminent monk. Instead, he was more like those profiteers!

There was definitely something fishy here!

Sean Knight breathed a sigh of relief, at least for now, there was still something to investigate.

Elijah Hastings watched as Sean Knight just looked at the small courtyard for a while before moving on.

Scanning each courtyard in turn, Sean Knight’s expressions varied from frowning to gritting his teeth and occasionally showing some happiness, which was truly baffling to observe.

Finally, after leaving the living areas, Elijah Hastings couldn’t help but ask softly:

"Boss, that’s all for the inspection? Can you tell anything?"

Hearing Elijah Hastings’s question, Sean Knight knew Elijah had noticed something was amiss and cursed himself for being careless, immediately explaining:

"That’s all for now. It might seem that I’m just looking at the buildings, but even so, I can discern specific details."

He mulled over an idea in his mind and managed to justify his actions:

"For instance, remember those individual courtyards we saw earlier? By looking at the amount of electrical wires coming and going, we can tell whether the monks at the very top are true practitioners.

Do you remember, in the highest-grade building, there was only one electrical wire and nothing else? It seems like only lamps were in use. But in the others, not only were there electrical wires, there were also air conditioners, internet cables, etc.

Obviously, these monks’ practice isn’t so pure. So, there must be something amiss in this backyard. At least those monks aren’t that pure. This doesn’t match the holy reputation of Xing Chan Temple.

Right now, we can’t startle the snake by hitting the grass. Since we have doubts, let’s look elsewhere—although the Miscellaneous Storage had nothing much, I feel certain that the remaining buildings must be problematic.

Do you remember how we found those treasures in the abandoned Temple in the jungle with Indian?"

"Pagoda forest?" Elijah’s eyes lit up!

"Exactly," Sean Knight said, laughing, "It’s not just the pagoda forest, but places like the Scripture Repository also need to be checked."

The two of them stealthily sneaked into the pagoda forest. Sean Knight was astonished to find that there were a few Monks guarding it.

In fact, the entire backyard was patrolled by Monks, but it was interesting that there were specifically two people watching the pagoda forest.

Sean Knight and Elijah exchanged a look, both feeling that they might have come to the right place.

However, these two were very alert, occasionally making rounds in the pagoda forest without showing the slightest slackness.

"Boss, should I draw them away?" Elijah suggested, "Then you can go in and have a look?"

"No need," Sean Knight shook his head and said:

"Since we’re inspired by what happened in Indian’s Temple, let’s use that method here."
