Chapter 932: 522

Xing Chan Temple was located on the mountain as well, but this place was much more lively.

From the foot of the mountain all the way to the temple gate, tourists were coming and going continuously. Many people started to worship at the base of the mountain, clearly indicating that the incense and candles here were very popular.

Looking at the faces of these people, it was not just East Asians of the Yellow Race present, there were also South Asians, Caucasians, and others, some visiting and some worshipping the Buddha.

At the foot of the mountain, there were numerous shops selling incense and candles, forming a mature industry chain.

The three of them blended in with the crowd, not standing out at all. They acted like tourists, looking around left and right as they walked up the mountain.

This complex of buildings was majestic and had a sense of historical heft.

Sean Knight and his two companions found the architecture very familiar; it was just like ancient buildings with sharp angles and multiple eaves. Emily Kelley murmured under her breath:

"Really ungrateful. After being a student for so many years, the moment they graduate, they start picking on the teacher..."

Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings looked at each other and smiled, continuing to walk forward.

The scale of the temple was much larger than the Xingya Guanyin Temple. The story wall at the entrance depicted the story of the Buddha feeding his body to a tiger.

Many people were worshipping there.

As the three of them walked further in, Emily Kelley asked Sean Knight in a low voice:

"Mr. Knight, are we really just here to visit?"

"Let’s see," Sean Knight said nonchalantly, "pretend we are just here to visit."

They followed the crowd, and Sean Knight was surprised to find that Xing Chan Temple indeed housed many ancient relics and "good items" emitting a Buddhist faith.

However, in such a public space, Sean Knight couldn’t just walk up and take a closer look, so he could only admire them from a distance.

Visitors inside were behaving properly, and those worshipping the Buddha were even more respectful, nearly performing thirty-three prostrations in homage to the Buddha.

Sean Knight walked with the tourists and suddenly discovered that they could only browse the front half of Xing Chan Temple, about one-third of the whole complex.

Coming out from the main hall dedicated to Maitreya Buddha, Sean Knight could clearly see there were more buildings further back.

Some people wanted to go check out the back, but were stopped; apparently, visitors were not allowed to proceed any further.

"Boss, do you want to go check out the back?" Elijah Hastings asked quietly.

"I am considering it," Sean Knight said. "Perhaps the secrets we are looking for are inside. But now is not the right time."

Of course, if they pushed through to the back in full view of everyone, it would probably only take 10 minutes to draw the police.

Sean Knight and his companions didn’t want to leave a criminal record here.

Although it was frustrating, the three of them still followed the visiting route through the front yard, tasted a free vegetarian meal, and then they could only descend the mountain.

As for the Merit Box at the front, Sean Knight looked at the portly abbot and thought of a novel where it was mentioned that the monks here were professionals that could marry, so he just pretended not to see it and left.

At the foot of the mountain, Elijah Hastings asked:

"Boss, what do we do next?"

"We’ve already disturbed the grass and alarmed the snake. Now, let’s find a place nearby to stay; we’ll see if we can flush out any big snakes."

Emily Kelley also looked forward to what would happen next.

"Emily, you should head back to Tokyo. Our short-term contract is over," Sean Knight said, turning towards Emily Kelley. "Let me be clear, we’re moving on to the critical phase of our treasure hunt, and I don’t want an outsider to be involved."

Emily Kelley didn’t find Mr. Knight’s half-joking words amusing at all and shook her head, saying:

"Mr. Knight, don’t think about leaving me behind — it’s not a threat but as a Nanjing City native, I’m begging you to let me stay. I want to see... I know I’m not skilled enough to be of much help to you.

But I can speak Japanese, at least at times when it’s necessary, I can provide some cover, right? Don’t worry, I will absolutely follow orders and not interfere with your plans!"

Sean Knight looked at her then back at Elijah Hastings.

"Boss, if it were up to me, I’d say let her stay. I think she can definitely help us," Elijah Hastings said.

"Fine, I hope you really can obey us, don’t run off, and don’t talk out of turn, or else we have more than 100 ways to make you keep quiet," Sean Knight told Emily without changing his stern demeanor despite her plea. "If you really interfere with our action, then just think about the fate of those people today!"

Emily Kelley nodded.

Though she guessed that Sean Knight wouldn’t really harm her, she still felt intimidated.

Thinking about the pain of directly breaking a finger frightened her!

Near Xing Chan Temple there was a small town with hotels.

However, room availability was very tight, and it took Emily Kelley quite a while to find a suitable house.

The landlady was a Japanese woman in her fifties, who politely invited Emily Kelley and the others inside, informing them that the hotel offered three meals a day for an additional charge. They were also free to dine elsewhere, and she could make recommendations.

The room rate was expensive, but the offer of a hot spring bath made Emily Kelley feel it was somewhat worthwhile.

After a busy half day, the three of them were tired and decided to enjoy the hot springs.

This time Sean Knight experienced the relatively open atmosphere here — although it wasn’t mixed-gender bathing, the men’s and women’s hot springs were only separated by a wall about a meter and a half high; a taller person could simply look over to the other side.

As for the sound of conversations, they were naturally able to hear each other.

Those who came here for hot springs were used to it and didn’t seem surprised.

After soaking in the hot springs, Sean Knight and his companions returned to their rooms to rest.

At nightfall, it was still lively outside, which reminded Sean Knight of certain domestic spots, more like a bustling tourist attraction than a temple.

However, this hustle and bustle made Sean Knight uncomfortable, especially since he had plans for the night. With the place still so lively, it wasn’t convenient for his activities!

It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that the noise outside began to subside.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door of Sean Knight’s room.
