Chapter 931 - 522
Chapter 931: 522
"From what these people were planning, I knew they were up to no good. Whether they lived or died, I definitely wasn’t going to get involved."
Not bad.
Sean Knight thought to himself, and then he continued down the mountain.
He faintly heard a few muffled groans, but he didn’t pay any more attention to them. What came next was more important.
They were fast approaching a forked road in the mountain gorge when Elijah Hastings caught up to them, giving Sean Knight a hand signal indicating that the mission was complete.
Several people didn’t speak, just followed the path taken by those men down toward the middle of the mountain.
Soon, they passed a small mound and then saw a flat area behind it with three stone houses that looked quite old.
Outside the stone houses was a courtyard, Inside the Courtyard, there were some daily necessities and a bicycle.
Behind the stone houses, there was a narrow path that wound downward; it seemed to be the route those men had taken down the mountain.
When Sean and his two companions arrived at the entrance to the courtyard of the stone houses, Elijah said,
"I’ll go over and take a look first."
With those words, he swiftly made his way inside.
The courtyard gate was half-open; Elijah sidled through and carefully made his way towards the entrance.
Sean had already reached the entrance of the courtyard. With Sky Eye activated, he realized that there really was nobody inside.
However, he did not alert Elijah, instead letting him cautiously sneak into the stone house to conduct a tactical reconnaissance.
"Boss, come on in, the people have fled," Elijah said, poking his head out from inside the door of the stone house.
Sean and Emily Kelley both walked into the stone house.
Upon entering, Emily immediately covered her nose.
The stone house was divided into three sections: on the left was a large bunk room for living, in the middle was the combined living room and dining room, and on the right was the kitchen.
The unpleasant smell was coming from the bunk room on the left. Sean glanced through the open door and knew instantly what that smell was.
Emily, still covering her nose, went over there and, seeing the trash can in the corner stuffed full with paper towels, had a moment of realization. She ran out with disgust and headed into the courtyard.
Elijah, on the other hand, did not seem too concerned and began searching the bunk room.
"Boss, these guys still have some stuff in their hands," Elijah said, showing Sean the items he had found.
They were several small golden bars that looked quite uniform and not like they were privately made.
There were also a few pieces of Jade ware.
Sean knew that the Japanese revered China’s culture heavily and also held the culture of jade in high esteem. He hadn’t expected that these miscreants would have jade artifacts on them.
"Pack them up," Sean said. "These items are at least seventy to eighty years old, some even over a hundred. Considering the craftsmanship of the jade artifacts, it’s unlikely they belong to them—"
Sean didn’t finish his sentence, as it was clear that these were a part of the items stolen from China.
Just now, those few had said nothing, which made Sean wonder whether their silence was due to discretion, or simply because they did not know the specific origins of these items.
Therefore, tracking down their superiors or the one who escaped was crucial!
They searched the stone house again but found nothing else, and decided it was time to leave.
"Boss, what should we do about this place?" Elijah gestured towards the items inside the stone house.
"Burn it," Sean said nonchalantly. "Fire is probably the only way to cleanse this place, right?"
Moments later, thick smoke billowed from the stone house, followed by the rising flames.
As Sean and his companions headed down the mountain to the car, Emily suddenly said,
"If we were to go after him, could we catch that person? He couldn’t have gone far, right?"
"It’s unlikely," Elijah replied. "That person surely knew we had a car, so he wouldn’t escape directly via the road. This mountain is so vast, with plenty of shrubbery and jungle to hide in. It would be impossible for us to find him."
Even with Sky Eye, Sean had not seen anyone nearby and could not determine which way the person had fled.
If it were difficult even for him with his Sky Eye to find someone, it was even more so for ordinary people.
"So we’re just giving up like this?" Emily felt disappointed. "Those bastards... I refuse to believe that the Bloody Earth Guanyin was destroyed in the torrential rain! Even if the Bloody Earth Guanyin was ruined, it’s impossible that all those scoundrels in the Xingya Guanyin Temple perished..."
It surprised Sean to see Emily so "fervently youthful," but he thought it made sense. After all, some people came "factory-equipped" with such traits, especially since she was someone from Nanjing City.
The car started, and Emily asked,
"Mr. Knight, where are we heading now?"
"I remember there should be a Xing Chan Temple nearby, let’s go check it out," Sean suggested.
"Xing Chan Temple?" Emily inquired, puzzled.
"You don’t know? Then look it up, it should be there," Sean was confident.
Emily searched online and actually found it.
"It’s some distance from here, do we go there now?"
"Let’s go, we still have time. We’ll find a place to eat on the way. Once we arrive, let’s try not to speak. If anyone asks, you can answer in Japanese, just say we’re tourists. We won’t speak."
Sean gave his precautions in advance.
Although Emily didn’t understand why Sean was doing this, she agreed.
The car left Mount Izu, took another road, and continued forward.
Ahead was Little Town, and after getting Sean’s consent, Emily stopped in front of a restaurant.
The people here were still very simple and warm-hearted. After eating the local specialties, Sean and his companions continued on their way.
