Chapter 927: Chapter 521 This is a Different Kind of Combat
Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings walked along the mountain gorge.
It was apparent that the middle of the gorge had originally been very flat, with a sizable area that could easily accommodate a building.
However, due to the recent debris flow, many stones had mixed in, making it look dangerously unstable.
A number of trees had also been broken off by the flow, some still tenaciously sprouting leaves from the soil, while others had turned into decayed wood, becoming a paradise for insects and fungi.
"Boss, looking at this, it’s quite possible that the place was destroyed by the flow," Elijah said as they walked. "They probably had it coming."
"Hard to say, let’s keep going and see," Sean replied, his Sky Eye active the whole time. He could see a stone slab road buried about half a meter deep under the debris flow, leading into the mountain.
The stone slab road was buried in the soil to a depth of about half a meter.
Sean thought that at this depth, if the Xingya Guanyin Temple was there, it couldn’t have been completely buried and flattened; there must be some remnants of the relic left.
Including the Bloody Earth Guanyin.
So Sean walked slowly.
Luckily for him, his Energy of Sky Eye was abundant, and he could keep it fully activated without worrying about running out of energy.
But from the start of the road, almost one kilometer in, he saw no hint of anything related to the Bloody Earth.
On either side of the stone slab road, there were occasionally foundations of buildings, but no human skeletons.
"Boss, look there!" Elijah had been looking ahead and noticed a half-wall-like man-made relic in front, and he immediately pointed it out to Sean.
Sean looked up and saw that it wasn’t just a wall; it was likely the ruins of an entire building—could this be the notorious Xingya Guanyin Temple?
Sean noticed that the debris flow hadn’t hit the temple directly; this place was only affected by the aftermath, destroying most of the buildings, however.
The two made their way closer to the buildings and discovered that the insides were overgrown with wild grass, indicating that it had been a long time since anyone had been there.
"Boss, should we search carefully?" Elijah looked at Sean.
"Yes," Sean nodded, "let’s check everywhere to see if there’s any suspicious place."
Sean continued using Sky Eye, unwilling to miss a single suspicious spot.
After checking the entire Avalokitesvara Temple, although Sean found nothing, his suspicions only grew!
By then, Elijah had also finished inspecting the entire temple, and he met back up with Sean.
"Boss, it seems like the inside has been completely scoured clean by the flow, leaving nothing behind. Even the few houses that weren’t affected have been emptied of their contents and are now barren," Elijah reported.
Sean nodded, having noticed this as well.
"It seems that, just as the news reported, this place was totally destroyed," Elijah continued. "Even the stones from the base of the Bloody Earth Guanyin statue, which we found online, are nowhere to be seen."
Picking up a tree branch, Sean prodded the ground as he said:
"I think you’ve noticed as well, this place is too clean; there’s nothing left."
"Yes," Elijah surmised, "could it be because there was an early warning for the torrential rain and those people prepared in advance and evacuated? Is that why it’s like this?"
"It’s possible," Sean said, "and that makes it even more suspicious—think about it, the Xingya Guanyin Temple was built to worship the Bloody Earth Guanyin. They evacuated everything else, could they have left the Avalokitesvara statue behind?"
Elijah slowly nodded.
This matter really didn’t add up!
Of course, Sean’s main basis was that from the entrance of the gorge all the way here, he had not seen the slightest trace linked to the Bloody Earth Guanyin.
If the Bloody Earth Guanyin had truly been washed away by the mudflow from the torrential rain, then it surely would not have been cleaned away so thoroughly.
So Sean had good reason to believe there was a hidden story behind this incident!
Of course, another possibility was that the Bloody Earth Guanyin wasn’t here, but further up the mountain.
Hence, Sean said to Elijah:
"Let’s keep moving up to see if we can find some new clues."
"Alright," Elijah led the way.
Moving past the ruins of the Xingya Guanyin Temple, the shrubbery in the mountains became denser, and walking became much more difficult.
However, both men were far superior in physical fitness compared to ordinary people; while the road ahead wasn’t exactly smooth sailing, it was certainly easier for them than for most.
"Here!" Sean suddenly shouted. "Elijah, check this out!"
Following Sean’s pointing finger, Elijah saw several ash-black stones scattered beside the uphill path, behind which lay thick shrubbery.
In normal times, perhaps no one would notice anything here, but now, in comparison with previously reviewed documents, it was clear—this was the original location of the Bloody Earth Guanyin statue!
It looked very similar!
It had to be!
Elijah turned to look at Sean.
"Look, can you not see the signs that the debris flow has passed through?"
Sean approached the pile of stones and, pointing to the shallow marks beneath the shrubbery, said:
"Right here. Although time has passed, the signs of erosion are still somewhat visible upon careful inspection."
Elijah walked over, crouched down to look, and found it to be true!
"So, the debris flow didn’t even reach the Bloody Earth Guanyin statue, at most it reached halfway up the stones!" Sean concluded with certainty.
