Chapter 923: Chapter 519: Try Going High and Low!_3
As the three of them ate, Elijah Hastings gave a report on the recent situation.
"The logging went well; we’ve already shipped two batches to the island. Both sides are very satisfied. Miss Brown sent someone over, we made the handover, and then came back," he said.
"Yeah, Lana Brown told me," Sean Knight replied while picking out fish bones, "This matter is on the right track. Next, in addition to those 50,000 logs, we’ll need to build good relationships with the nobles from those prince states.
Once the 50,000 logs are finished, the rest is just buying wood."
Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper didn’t offer any opinions, after all, it was a decision made by Sean Knight and Lana Brown.
"We’ve also had some gains over in Europe; I don’t know if Lincoln Harrington has told you," Sean Knight said. "The income from the wood is split among you guys. Lincoln Harrington has his own income in Europe. Everyone has their share; don’t be envious of each other."
"Envious? Not at all!" Douglas Cooper said cheerfully, "That single piece of old mountain sandalwood is enough for us to be more than content..."
Sean Knight understood what Douglas Cooper meant; it was an expression of allegiance. He didn’t respond, continuing instead:
"I took a private job in Europe, which Lincoln Harrington and I have completed. The reward is a collection of Chinese cultural relics; I took half, and the other half will be air-freighted to Urumqi the day after tomorrow. You two will take delivery and transport it to the Villa in the County Town."
"Sure!"
"No problem!"
Both Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper agreed.
"Next, you two take a half-month rest. After the rest, I have something to discuss with you. If you agree to take on the mission, we’ll meet up in Ocean City. If not, you can continue your holiday."
"We’re in!" Elijah Hastings readily agreed.
Douglas Cooper also nodded in agreement.
The more Sean Knight respected their opinions, the more they felt following Sean Knight was the right choice.
"Are you sure you want this? No hesitation? Nothing at home that needs taking care of?"
"We’re sure," Elijah Hastings said flatly and firmly.
"No issues at home; staying idle is even worse," Douglas Cooper said self-deprecatingly. "Boss, you know the situation with my family; it’s better to be out handling affairs."
"That’s settled, then," Sean Knight said with a nod, "You won’t regret it."
After the meal, Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper left the Courtyard and went to the County Town.
Sean Knight didn’t concern himself with them, happily carrying his plate to wash up, only to be scolded by his mother.
"Everything is fine in the summer, except for the darn mosquitoes. It’s unbearable," Ralph Knight lamented Inside Courtyard. "These past two years, pesticides haven’t been sprayed as often, and the mosquitoes have been getting worse..."
Sean Knight knew what his Grandfather meant; the land had all been turned into cooperatives. They had also been reformed, so spraying was concentrated to just a few days.
In the past, every family would spray pesticides whenever they wanted to, which meant it was happening nearly every day. With frequent spraying, mosquitoes and flies had no ground for survival and were seldom seen.
With the formation of cooperatives, everyone focused on scientific farming, decreasing the frequency of pesticide use and spraying it only during designated periods, just those few concentrated days.
After the spraying was finished, and if there were no bugs, it wouldn’t be sprayed again. This lack of control led to the mosquito and fly populations starting to run rampant.
There were pros and cons.
It was a difficult issue to judge.
Two days later, at the Villa, Sean Knight saw the remaining cultural relics sent by Lester Francis.
Since these items were clearly marked when going through Customs, the affair wasn’t kept secret.
Sean Knight received many phone calls, all hoping he would place these cultural relics in certain museums for study.
He declined all the requests.
What pleased Sean Knight was that the Xinjiang Museum hadn’t called.
He believed they must be aware of the situation, and their silence probably signified trust in Sean Knight’s judgment.
If he decided to place the items in a museum, Xinjiang Museum would definitely be the first choice.
If he decided to keep them for his personal Collection, other calls wouldn’t matter.
This suited Sean Knight just fine.
"Alright, now that business is done, I won’t keep you any longer. You probably look down on this Small County Town anyway," Sean Knight said to Elijah Hastings without being Polite, "We’ll see you in Ocean City in half a month."
Even so, Elijah Hastings didn’t immediately leave but asked:
"Boss, give us a hint, so we can prepare ahead of time."
"Just rest well and recharge for the mission," Sean Knight said, laughing. "This mission isn’t easy, and you might not get any benefit from it. So, think it over."
"The biggest benefit is working with the boss!" Douglas Cooper offered flattery casually. "But still, boss, give us a clue about where we’re going. Without knowing, it’s hard to prepare. It can be rushed and affect the mission’s success!"
"So, take a guess?" Sean Knight teased.
"I guess... Japan?" Elijah Hastings was quick to respond, almost sure of it from Sean Knight’s previous statements.
"I also guess it’s..." Douglas Cooper was also quick to catch on, his realization immediate after Elijah Hastings’ hint.
"Correct. We’re going to handle a big task," Sean Knight said, his smile fading, "It might turn into a situation where everyone is after us, so..."
"Which means we definitely have to be part of it," Elijah Hastings stated firmly. "Boss, we’ve known each other for more than just a few days. Honestly, I can already guess what it’s about.
You don’t need to provoke us. As long as we can go, we’d be willing, even without pay or at our own expense."
He turned to Douglas Cooper and said:
"Douglas, right?"
"Of course!" Douglas Cooper was quick to agree. "But boss, at least tip us off where in Japan we’re headed. If we’re going to torch some kind of sacred toilet, we really need to be ready!"
"It’s not about torching sacred toilets, but it’s no less significant," Sean Knight said.
"Really?" Douglas Cooper grew excited. "It’s not some sort of assassination operation, is it?"
Elijah Hastings also became excited.
"No, no," Sean Knight waved them off. "Search for ’Bloody Earth Guanyin’; I can’t go into it, I’m afraid I might not be able to contain myself..."
Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper looked at each other and pulled out their Mobile Phones to search.
Afterward, they both started cursing loudly!
