Chapter 845: 493 Chapter Which One is the Treasure?_2

After they entered the Courtyard, Lincoln Harrington and others propped the fallen door up at the Entrance and stuffed the gaps with straw, finally isolating themselves from the snakes.

Although occasionally snakes still slithered past, they ultimately headed towards the Courtyard where they had previously stayed, paying little attention to them now.

Sean Knight sat down with a thud, his expression finally no longer so tense.

Meanwhile, Elijah Hastings and his companions were carefully searching the Courtyard before reporting to Sean Knight:

"Boss, no snakes were found."

"The gaps are all blocked off, so it’s basically safe."

"We’ve spread antiscolic all around the Surrounding Wall, ensuring that snakes and insects won’t come over."

The three individuals each took charge of their duties, which gave the other three, aside from Sean Knight, various thoughts.

"It should be fine now," Sean Knight nodded. "Get some good rest. At daybreak, we still need to go back and check."

"Go back?" HarudaTomoko was startled and quickly asked:

"We’ve finally gotten out, why go back?"

"We didn’t bring any Equipment with us. If we leave like this, we might end up being stranded in the Forest," Sean Knight explained, though this was more for Cheryl Suweton, who also looked puzzled.

Of course, the real reason, Sean Knight didn’t disclose—he didn’t believe these snakes gathered together for no reason.

There had to be a cause.

Without looking, Sean Knight felt somewhat unwilling to leave it be.

Of course, retrieving their Equipment was one reason, but Sean Knight thought that the snakes would not stay in the same place forever.

The seven of them rested Inside Courtyard, occasionally someone would stand up to check the outside.

The snakes that passed by were becoming less and less frequent.

"Why do you think... these snakes are running over there?" HarudaTomoko kept wondering, quietly asking Cheryl Suweton.

She felt Cheryl Suweton was well-travelled and knowledgeable and might know something.

Of course, HarudaTomoko also intended for Sean Knight nearby to overhear—Cheryl Suweton was sitting next to Sean Knight, who probably could hear the conversation.

"It must be... that there is something attracting the snakes," Cheryl Suweton thought for a moment and said: "I remember having heard about a similar experience before, where the snakes bundle up because some female snakes secrete a hormone smell that attracts male snakes for mating..."

"So that’s how it is..." HarudaTomoko believed it.

Sean Knight remembered a similar scene from an immortal chivalrous novel from China, but that was too fantastical to be credible.

But were there really such powerful snakes that could secrete hormones that excited so many different species of snakes?

Doubtful.

The light of day slowly brightened, and everyone’s mood started to lift. After all, they now had a much broader view, and the chances of spotting danger increased.

When they could all see clearly, Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington darted out and returned each carrying a python.

"Let’s roast and eat these first," Elijah Hastings suggested. "There are very few snakes nearby now, but it’s going to be quite difficult to find food..."

The Guide perked up and said:

"I’ll go out and look, maybe I can find some Fruit."

He glanced outside, saw no snakes, and boldly left; he returned shortly after with a bunch of Fruit and a long piece of something like cassava.

"These are all edible," the Guide explained. "The locals use this as Staple food."

He demonstrated by peeling it and munching on it like one would a raw sweet potato.

Sean Knight could tell that it was indeed a type of tuber, non-toxic and edible, so he took a piece and shared it with Cheryl Suweton.

On the other hand, Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington began roasting the snake Meat.

Cheryl Suweton and HarudaTomoko kept their distance from the snake meat, settling for the Fruit and cassava to fill their stomachs.

"You guys rest here, Lincoln Harrington and Guide Gru stay here, and we’ll go out and check the movements of those snakes," Sean Knight said. "You all stay alert, too. If anything goes wrong, leave immediately. Just leave us a sign."

Cheryl Suweton knew they needed to retrieve some Equipment, as the likelihood of dying in the Forest was high without it. So, all she did was remind Sean Knight:

"Then, be careful."

Having come all this way, Cheryl Suweton was acutely aware that with her skills, following Sean Knight and the rest at this point would only be a hindrance.

Sean Knight, accompanied by Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper, left the Courtyard and headed back the way they came.

They occasionally spotted snakes still moving in that direction, but Sean Knight and his party were very cautious. They avoided the snakes’ paths and did not attract their attention.

Soon, they reached a parallel spot where they could see the Guide Leader; he was still lying there, his complexion ashen, his face contorted, with a look of unaccepting death—except the eye sockets were hollow, the eyeballs gone, scooped out by some creature.

Sean Knight merely glanced at him and moved on, continuing to find spots with fewer snakes to advance.

But after moving forward another dozen meters, they stopped.

They could now see the Courtyard where they had camped. But at this moment, it was impossible to approach the Courtyard—the snakes had formed several gigantic "snake groups"!

More snakes gathered outside the Courtyard, in all sizes, some aggressive ones already starting to devour other snake species.

However, most snakes seemed suppressed by a certain atmosphere and did not show too much hostility towards the different species nearby.

Sean Knight and his companions stared in bewilderment. If such a sight were to be unleashed, it truly could give someone quite a scare!
