Chapter 833: Chapter 489: Talking About Feelings Costs Money_2
Cheryl Suweton went to find Sean Knight and relayed the matter to him.
Sean Knight nodded his head, indicating that he understood.
"This time we’re just here for the treasure hunt, let Haruda Tomoko deal with communicating with Dutt’s people, and don’t fuss about anything else. It’s great if we can find it, but don’t bother if we can’t."
Sean Knight instructed Cheryl:
"The situation in this jungle is exactly as Dutt mentioned, dangerous at every turn. We still need to bring the necessary weapons for our own protection. At critical moments, we can’t necessarily count on others."
"But..." Cheryl said with some difficulty, "earlier Haruda Tomoko said that Dutt had prepared everything on this end for us, and we didn’t buy any of those..."
"Leave it to me," Sean Knight said with a smile, "We’ll see what Dutt has prepared for us tomorrow. If they’re prepared, that’s great, and if not, I’ll prepare them for you."
"I knew you’d be the most thorough!" Cheryl said, hugging Sean Knight contentedly.
In her previous treasure hunts, Cheryl was very independent, providing her own gear and taking care of her own safety.
But now that Sean Knight was around, she couldn’t help but start to rely on him.
Once Cheryl returned to her house, Sean Knight brought Elijah Hastings and the other two together and quietly explained the situation. Having teamed up with Sean Knight for treasure hunts more than once, the trio was in perfect sync, and they understood right away with a brief explanation.
The second day after breakfast, Dutt said to Sean Knight and his group:
"The guides I’ve assigned to you are already waiting outside the door. Just let them lead you to the place you want to go for the treasure hunt."
The group went outside and saw four men carrying guns, dressed in camouflage uniforms and backpacks, waiting for them.
These four men were all wrapped in headscarves, looking quite fierce with a murderous look in their eyes. When Dutt came out, they all bowed deeply. The leader of the group stood up and said to Dutt:
"Master, we are ready!"
"Good, this time you’re taking them into the forest, make sure to keep them safe. Remember, I have a share in the treasure they find, so you must be careful, understand?"
Dutt ordered, then turned to Haruda Tomoko and said:
"They know the jungle and the relics inside very well; they will definitely lead you to what you are looking for."
"What about the supplies we need?" Now distrustful of Dutt, Haruda Tomoko asked directly.
"Supplies? What they are carrying is all you need," Dutt said. "You won’t need too long in the jungle; one week is enough. If you haven’t found it by then, you won’t ever find it. The contents of their packs should be sufficient. If it’s not, I’ll have two of them come back to carry more."
At those words, Haruda Tomoko’s complexion changed.
But seeing the four armed guides, she wisely did not speak out.
Seeing Haruda Tomoko quiet down, Dutt smiled smugly but then glanced at Cheryl and noticed she completely ignored him, quietly talking with Sean Knight instead. A sense of defeat bubbled inside him, and although he couldn’t do anything about it, he turned and left.
The four guides drove in front to lead the way, with Sean Knight and his team following behind. After driving for over an hour, they reached the end of the road and stopped.
The four guides, two in front and two in the back, spoke to Sean Knight and the others who had gotten out of the car:
"From here on we enter the jungle. It’s best to travel light and not bring too many items. We’re on a tight schedule, so move quickly."
Even though they knew Haruda Tomoko and her companions were Dutt’s guests, the guides’ tone still carried a certain edge. Sean Knight didn’t for a second believe Dutt hadn’t given them orders on the side.
Haruda Tomoko felt the same, but what could she do now?
When you’re under someone else’s roof, you have to bow your head!
Next, several people took their backpacks out of the car, put them on, and followed the guides into the jungle.
"You’d better reduce some of the stuff you’re carrying, otherwise, if you fall behind in the forest, we won’t wait for you," the lead guide said loudly upon seeing that Sean Knight and the others each carried a big bag.
Sean Knight and his group didn’t pay him any mind and continued forward.
The leading guide gave them a look but said nothing more.
Instead, his companion began muttering something in the local language.
The party entered the jungle. The guides led with machetes, clearing a path as Sean Knight and his companions followed.
"Watch out for the leeches," Sean Knight warned Cheryl, swatting away a leech that had landed on her from the tree leaves.
"Mm," Cheryl responded, feeling secure. With Sean Knight by her side, she truly wasn’t afraid of anything.
"Let’s sprinkle some antiscolic on us," Sean Knight said. "It ought to help a bit." He took out the antiscolic purchased earlier, sprinkled some on Cheryl, some on himself, and then handed the powder to Elijah.
Given the enhancements their bodies had undergone, they could easily sense the approach of small bugs.
However, Cheryl wouldn’t be able to, and Haruda Tomoko was even less capable. At this moment, among the group, Haruda Tomoko was the most bedraggled—
Her physical strength wasn’t great to begin with. Just entering the jungle where the trees weren’t very thick and with the guides moving at a fast pace, she quickly fell behind while carrying a big backpack.
But Haruda Tomoko knew that, heavy as the contents of her backpack were, they were essential for her trip.
She could rely on the items the guides had, but that would certainly put her at their mercy, and she was unwilling to do that.
