Chapter 811: Chapter 481 An Unexpected Surprise Gift
Seeing that Kyle Mitchell said he could buy, Sean Knight was truly overjoyed.
He had only seen from the Internet that the Type 022 navigation speedboat was a twin-hull stealth design. Although its missiles might be a generation behind and had a short shooting range, his island didn’t need such a long range anyway!
In Sean Knight’s view, just having that close-defense cannon was enough. As for the missiles, they were meant to serve as a deterrent. If any big ships came looking to flex their military muscle, he would just showcase a few Type 022s, and just the sight of those missile launchers would be enough to scare those guys off!
With the lion’s share of the deal settled, Sean Knight’s mood instantly improved.
"Mr. Knight, do you need any other weapons?"
"Yes, of course, I need them!"
Sean Knight certainly did need them.
Even Sandy knew that China had a comprehensive military-industrial system, and their weapons were known for being good quality and reasonably priced. How could Sean Knight, who frequented memes during his university days, not understand?
He never imagined that one day he would be treated the same as Sandy, with someone to personally attend to him and provide all these heavy hitters!
"Anti-aircraft machine guns, I think we should get at least 50; man-portable air-defense missiles, we’ve got to have at least two hundred... Not possible? Well, one hundred is fine too! I guarantee they’re only for use on Big Island and absolutely won’t leak out. I’m not running a second-hand dealership here...
Do you have HJ series anti-tank missiles, the kind without wires? That way, if anything with thin skin but a big payload comes my way, wouldn’t I be able to handle it easily? You’ve got something that can deal with thick-skinned targets too? That’s great!
What about adding some mortars? I think we shouldn’t go for anything too large, just the 60 or 81 caliber will do, and we’ll need plenty of shells. I think everyone in my security force should be able to handle it—you provide the training? That’s perfect!"
Upon hearing they provided training, Sean Knight immediately widened his eyes:
"Can we get a feel for it now?"
"Tomorrow, not today," Kyle Mitchell felt that Sean Knight really was all over the place, thinking out loud as things came to him.
And the volume he was buying wasn’t large, it was just a mixture of everything.
If it wasn’t for orders from his superiors, Kyle Mitchell really wouldn’t want to deal with this troublesome customer.
However, considering the control Knight had over Big Island, Kyle Mitchell suppressed his irritation and said with a smile:
"Mr. Knight, please list what you need, and we will arrange everything. Of course, if you need to try and see the effects, we will organize a trip to the shooting range tomorrow where you can experience everything firsthand."
He looked at Elijah Hastings and said:
"Mr. Hastings here seems to know a bit about these matters; the experience should be even better for him."
"Don’t joke, Leader, I’m just my boss’s security guard," Elijah Hastings had long realized that Kyle Mitchell was definitely from a military background, and might even be active military still. As a small-time ex-sergeant, he dared not overstate his importance.
With that comment, Kyle Mitchell smiled and thought that was proper; the guy hadn’t forgotten his place.
Sean Knight, upon hearing this, tentatively asked:
"Can I ask about anything? I mean, regarding what I want to purchase."
"Certainly, you ask, and if it’s for sale, I’ll give you a summary; if it’s not, I’ll tell you directly," replied Mitchell.
"Okay, are rocket launchers for sale? I’m talking about the long-range kind."
"Oh, the ones currently in service are not, but the foreign trade versions can be," Kyle Mitchell hadn’t expected Sean Knight to suddenly jump from light to heavy firepower!
Yes, in his eyes, individual missiles, anti-aircraft machine guns, and mortars were all light weapons.
Even a Type 100 heavy mortar was still a light weapon to him.
But long-range artillery, that caliber jumps to over 200, which definitely counts as heavy firepower.
"The foreign trade version of the SR self-propelled long-range artillery is available for you to inspect tomorrow. You can get in the vehicle and take a look."
"And then there’s that guerrilla’s dream tool," Sean Knight continued, "the kind that can be quickly assembled and fired, carried around easily, and run on batteries..."
Mitchell’s lips twitched slightly; believing in memes, seriously?
But the influence of those memes was actually substantial. Because of them, China’s decades-old Type 107 and 130mm rocket launchers were given a new lease on life!
"They’re available, but to be honest, those rocket launchers are not as magical as the memes suggest. They’re not very accurate and don’t have a long range. Their advantage is purely their convenience," said Mitchell.
In Mitchell’s view, rocket launchers that could hit targets eight kilometers away were hardly worth mentioning, as modern long-range artillery should be measured in hundreds of kilometers range.
"Convenience is good enough for me, I’ll take them! Foreign trade versions as well, I want them both."
Sean Knight thought to himself that as long as he had enough space, he could store these weapons for the moment and, should he encounter some unreasonable situation, let the aggressors understand what "reason" meant!
After discussing these items, Sean Knight felt it was probably sufficient.
He wasn’t planning to become an arms dealer; he just wanted to ensure his own survival if attacked.
Still, with Elijah Hastings’s reminder, he asked Kyle Mitchell about some protective equipment such as bulletproof vests, tents, and military portable equipment.
Sean actually wanted to inquire about man-portable exoskeleton auxiliary equipment too, but Mitchell shook his head indicating they didn’t have any.
Naturally, Sean didn’t believe that, thinking it was probably just not for sale to him.
After finalizing this eclectic selection of items and quantities, Mitchell said:
"Based on the prices of these items, as a package, one hundred million, US dollars." Sean Knight looked at the list of items and said with a smile:
"That’s not expensive. Okay, it’s a deal. Should I make a Full Payment first, or just a deposit?"
"Let’s go to the shooting range to see the effects tomorrow, and then we will finalize the contract. After all, we operate officially. As these items need to be purchased separately, the process might be a bit troublesome."
