Chapter 803: Chapter 478: Building a Private Forces Empire?_2
After hanging up the phone call and seeing that there were no more phone calls, he asked:
"Mr. Knight, what’s going on? Is there trouble? Whatever it is, just say it, maybe I can come up with some ideas from my side!"
He didn’t directly offer help. After all, as the deputy director of a museum, whether he could be of any help to Sean Knight was really uncertain.
But Sean didn’t look down on Joseph Davis. After all, with Craig Davis’s connection and his Big Island being no secret, he said:
"I have an island on the South Side, and the construction there is almost done. This period of time there have always been tourists visiting, but these last two days, an incident occurred.
A group of people launched a sneak attack, armed with guns, and nearly wiped out the living area there. Fortunately, I had hired a good number of veterans as security personnel, and we managed to repel them.
But now the patrol force on the sea around my island is a bit weak. We can’t keep patrolling with speedboats forever, and it’s not foolproof. I was thinking... maybe I could purchase some foreign trade version of military seacraft or something..."
As he spoke, he looked towards Joseph Davis.
Joseph Davis immediately gave an embarrassed smile:
"This matter... I really can’t help with. Alas, my influence is too limited.
Mainly because we here in Xinjiang are not near the sea, the largest water force we have is probably just the patrol squadron at Bangong Lake. I do know some people in the Military District, but those boats are definitely not for sale."
"That’s why I’m planning to take a look at the next Air Show," Sean continued, "We don’t want to buy anything that could affect the strategic situation, just ordinary tactical, small-tonnage stuff is fine."
Joseph Davis was in fact very surprised. Sean Knight, to what extent were the industries and power under his control already?
And thinking about the private plane they were on right now, he could almost be sure that it must belong to Sean himself.
Alas, he’s grown too fast!
It’s not necessarily a good thing, though!
There’s a saying ’When waves tower above the shore, they are sure to collapse’; he had the urge to advise Sean to be more low-key, but then again, how could that be possible?
Moreover, Sean was actually low-key enough already. He was hardly seen in gossip news, had no vices to speak of—in his own class of people, he could definitely be considered an upright and honest man.
What else could they expect from him?
"That’s good, actually it’s the safest way," Joseph said. "If it goes through official channels, one, nobody can say anything about it, and two, there will be a large media presence on the other side. Once it’s reported and people know you have this power, they’ll be less likely to provoke you easily."
"Exactly," Sean nodded.
In fact, he still wanted to buy some "light" weapons—of course, light weapons as referred to by military officials, which would be heavy weapons to ordinary people.
For example, anti-aircraft machine guns.
After all, he could set up his Big Island as he wished; it was remote from the Emperor, and it was unlikely that someone would come to inspect, so Sean felt confident about this.
If push comes to shove, just face a shootout!
Considering the possibility that someone might covet his island, Sean suddenly felt it necessary to start mining the gold mine on the island.
Although the island was now privately owned, you never know what small maneuvers that country might engage in.
After all, the island construction was complete, and large groups of tourists had already started to visit, becoming a new hotspot for Internet celebrities.
Who could assure there wouldn’t be envious people?
So now it was time to reap the benefits!
All steps had to be accelerated!
While Sean was lost in thought, Joseph’s staff had almost finished appraising the items.
"Are there any fakes?" Sean asked.
He of course knew there were none, but he had to ask anyway.
"Not so far," the staff replied without looking up, "These items are quite a mixed bag, not like they came from one place. The main sources could be regions like North China, Central Henan, and of course, there should be things from the Capital City as well."
"The Japanese soldiers who looted these items must not have succeeded in one go but over a sustained period," another person added, "The span of eras represented by the items is somewhat wide."
Sean no longer spoke, quietly waiting for them to finish appraising and packing the items.
By the time it approached nightfall and the packing was complete, Sean carefully signed his name in the notebook, then said to Joseph:
"You guys go ahead, I’m also leaving. Headed home now, my parents must have been waiting for a long time."
"I’ll send someone to drive you," said Joseph. "Once we’ve prepared the ceremony here, I’ll give you a call."
Sean responded with a good, then made a phone call to Charles Young.
Joseph’s driver was waiting outside the airport. Sean made no fuss, got into the car, and headed straight for home.
On the way, he made a phone call to his house; it was his brother Oscar Knight who answered.
When Sean was in university, he had conducted surprise visits home, but he had stopped doing such things later on.
Despite the heartfelt receptions of such surprise visits as seen online, sometimes parents would prefer knowing about their children’s daily lives and hope to have delicious dishes ready when their children return home.
A surprise visit might bring a thrill, but the unpreparedness could lead the parents to feel guilty.
After a two-hour drive, by the time Sean arrived home, it was already completely dark.
All four members of the Knight family were waiting at the entrance. Seeing the car lights, they immediately went out to greet him.
Descending from the car, Ralph Knight said with a smile:
"Why so late—Just glad you’re back."
"Exactly, exactly, just glad you’re back." Mother Nancy Knight called out smiling and then went inside the house.
There was no need to say, she was preparing the food.
And Mark Knight was greeting the driver.
