Chapter 738: Chapter 456: Is This Considered as Good Luck or Bad Luck?
After a lap out at sea, Sean Knight and his group returned to the pier.
There were even more people at the pier. Many fishing boats selling local specialties were docked there. However, Lana Brown had laid down some rules – these special products should not be brought onshore, so they had to be sold on the boats in the water.
If you wanted to buy their products, you had to row a small boat close to their fishing boat.
The items, especially the fruits, were much cheaper locally. Even though it required some effort to transport them here, they were still much cheaper compared to buying back at home due to the closer distance.
More than a dozen small boats were bustling about, and the noisy clamor made Sean feel as if he were in a domestic marketplace.
There was a commotion in the distance. As Sean disembarked, he noticed a woman creating a fuss. The crowd was gathering around her to watch the spectacle. Then, a security guard took the fussing old woman away.
The old woman was struggling and refused to leave, but she didn’t stand a chance against the beefy and experienced security guards, who easily escorted her away.
As the old lady’s family pursued, scolding, a small crowd of bystanders gathered to watch, but it didn’t cause any trouble.
Douglas Cooper, a lover of commotion, excusing himself to investigate. A few minutes later, he returned and summarized the situation.
"The old lady bought some items from a vendor. When she was testing the products, everything was fine, but as soon as she paid, she said she bought too much and demanded a refund.
The vendor agreed to return the money, but the old lady chose only the larger items to keep, returning the smaller ones, even leaving fingernail marks on the fruits.
The fruit, marred by her fingernail marks, would not sell. The vendor was unhappy, and the old lady started causing a scene. When the security guard arrived and understood the situation, they sided with the vendor and said the old lady was unreasonable.
The old lady then started shouting on the pier, accusing the security guards of collusion with the vendor. She threatened to sue and expose the vendor on the internet. She said if they didn’t resolve the issue satisfactorily, she would lie down and refuse to leave.
The security guards casually escorted her away."
"Blacklist her." Sean proposed thoughtfully, "Such a person is the rotten apple that spoils the barrel."
"These are, after all, the minority." Elijah Hastings agreed, finding it embarrassing that such a scene had occurred overseas. Fortunately, this was on Big Island. If it were in Jakarta, it would really tarnish the reputation of our people.
As they buzzed around in an electric car, Sean and his group were stunned by the endless stream of vehicles coming and going which showed that tourism was really booming on the island.
As he recalled, Lana Brown once mentioned that she was already making profit and she was confident of reaching her personal target by the end of the year!
Despite the current economic downturn, it was a fact that the purchasing power of many people had genuinely increased and they were pretty generous when spending on safe travel experiences.
The sale of local Island specialties, such as natural pearls and red coral products, were immediately snapped up as soon as they were put on shelves, with some customers lurking around just to buy.
The demand was simply overwhelming!
Clearly, the popularity of the Big Island was soaring, which actually pleased Sean.
Surely such a large island would feel strange if there was no hustle and bustle.
On the construction side of things, Craig Davis from Xinjiang Construction Company had, with great clarity, distinguished the tourism area from the residential area with tall walls and a power grid. This arrangement allowed the residents to enter and leave as they pleased, but the tourists could not access the residential area.
This worked rather well. If you wanted some peace, you could retreat to your own residential area. If you fancied some action, you could head over to the tourist area.
As they passed through a residential area, Sean was surprised to find some people selling seafood!
He stopped the car and Douglas ran over to ask. He came back later and shared what he had learned:
"They are tourists who caught too many fish during a morning fishing excursion. The seafood was too much for them to consume and too good to waste, so they decided to sell. They offer it at a good price and have quite a few customers!"
Sean found it interesting that the influx of tourists could spark such new enterprises.
"People were saying that a few days ago a group of lady long-term residents danced to loud square dance music. The volume was so loud that the security guards confiscated their amplifier.
After that, Miss Brown designated a dancing location for them, 500 meters away from the residential area."
"Did they make a fuss?" Sean curiously asked.
"Of course, they did! They even went to complain to Miss Brown. They said that back at home, no one dared to restrict them from dancing in the way they wanted.
They threatened that if their amplifier was not returned, and if they did not receive an apology from security, they would squat there and refuse to leave."
"What then?" Sean was curious to know how Lana Brown handled the situation since this matter had somehow been missed in their previous close communications.
"Miss Brown directly had security escort these ladies to the airport and banished them from the island. She even gave a list of names to all the partner travel agencies, banning them from ever returning to the island."
"That’s some nerve!" Sean was surprised by Lana’s decisive action.
"Yeah, we didn’t see it coming either."
"What about their reactions?"
"Of course, they weren’t happy. It’s said that upon returning to their home country, they immediately lodged complaints. But now the travel agencies are trying to curry favor with Miss Brown. Their complaints to the tourism bureau were useless because the bureau had no jurisdiction over the island.
The bureau, knowing the true essence of the matter, also criticized these women.
Some of the women even tried to twist the truth on the internet, but netizens aren’t easily fooled these days. The truth about the women was soon exposed, prompting a wave of scathing online comments against them. Many argued that such ill-mannered and arrogant individuals should not be indulged anymore in our country."
Sean nodded, that was okay.
While some things were better at home, anything bad was overly tolerated, and that was not good at all.
Now, they were on the Big Island, their own domain. The laws here were different from those at home. Essentially, they could do whatever is convenient for them – what they said, goes!
However, Sean reminded himself to stay aware.
