Chapter 710: Chapter 446: Danger After Parting Ways

Although Sean Knight claimed there was no need, Christopher Hughes insisted on assigning a night shift team anyway.

A few guys from the car took turns on shift duty, each man serving for an hour and a half, including Hughes himself.

Given that Hughes had deliberately scheduled himself for the most strenuous midnight shift, no one else voiced any objections.

The team of Sean set up a simple tent, laid out moisture-proof pads and unrolled their sleeping bags, ready to get some rest.

Lincoln Harrington offered his sleeping bag to Marilyn Reynolds, but Marilyn firmly declined.

"I’m perfectly comfortable in the car. Once you lay down the seatback, it’s quite cozy," Marilyn remarked.

"The temperature here fluctuates greatly between day and night, and it gets pretty chilly at night. You’ll catch a cold sleeping like that," Lincoln persisted in handing the sleeping bag to Marilyn, "Go to my tent, I’ll take the night shift. Once it’s done, I’ll crash in any of my comrade’s tents for the rest of the night."

The two kept refusing each other’s offers until Sean couldn’t take it anymore. He went to the car, retrieved a brand-new one-man tent and a small sleeping bag, and tossed them to Lincoln:

"Here, stop showing off your lovey-dovey antics. Now go and help Marilyn set up her tent!"

In fact, the tent didn’t require setting up. It came as a pre-assembled folding one that sprung up as soon as you shook it open.

However, Sean’s words did cause both Lincoln and Marilyn to blush.

In the end, Sean noticed that the two set their tents close together. He thought to himself that Lincoln was quite sharp after all, not being dumb enough to mindlessly avoid seeming improper.

The night passed uneventfully, without any thieves attempting to steal from them.

However, come daybreak, some villagers had noticed their convoy, attracting curious kids and onlookers alike.

This was a common occurrence to Hughes. After confirming that there was no shop in the village and no supplies could be replenished, he discussed with Sean and immediately started the car and left!

No one could tell whether the people they had met at the mountain pass had any connections with the village. So, the primary rule was to prioritize safety!

The convoy left the village, drove a few kilometers ahead, and stopped by the edge of an oasis.

There was a small water hole here. There were small animals drinking water when the convoy approached, but they bounded away as soon as they heard the engine noises.

"Let’s have some breakfast here, and clean up a little." Upon Hughes’s command, only then did everyone start settling their personal affairs and preparing breakfast.

"Be careful when you head into the shrubbery. Watch out for snakes!" Elijah Hastings warned out loud.

"Are there really snakes here?" Marilyn, who was by now considered a member of this small group, stirred her porridge with care as she asked Lincoln who was near her.

"Absolutely." Lincoln replied, cutting preserved duck eggs on a small chopping board. He continued while chopping, "And venomous ones too. Always be alert when you move in and out."

"You guys really seem to have come prepared for a tour. You’ve brought everything." Marilyn commented while stirring her porridge, "We left only with some clothes, food, mobile and didn’t think of anything else.

Looking at you guys, you have everything. I wouldn’t have been able to pack this meticulously even if I had three days to prepare for a vacation."

"Most of it was prepared by our boss." Lincoln hesitated momentarily, and he was also a little curious. It seemed like, whatever was needed, their boss could pull it out of his big bag.

It was like Doraemon’s 4-Dimensional Pocket, ridiculously spacious!

Maybe the boss had the gift of foresight, otherwise how could he be the boss?

"Your boss?" Marilyn became even more curious, "Your boss is really meticulous and thoughtful!"

"Yeah, he is indeed very detail-oriented." Lincoln arranged the cut duck egg pieces, poured the prepared sauce over it and said, "He carries everything that we can think of and cannot think of."

Just then, a cry of alarm emerged from the distant shrubbery:

"Snake! I’ve been bitten by a snake!"

Damn it!

Elijah and a few other people exchanged bemused looks, giving off a sense of helplessness.

Despite the reminder, some still failed to pay attention.

Sean, who was preparing a heated pancake, pulled out a box of snake antidote from his pocket and tossed it over:

"Douglas Cooper, take this by them. It’s an antidote for snake venom."

In fact, inside the spatial realm, there was also snake venom serum, but Sean wasn’t easy to take it out. If he took it out, it would probably scare others.

"You even have snake venom antivenom!" Marilyn voiced out her astonishment in a low voice, "Your boss... really is like a treasure chest!"

Douglas quickly walked over. A few minutes later, he returned with a man following him.

Sean remembered that was the lead male from Car No. 4, who came to make a fortune by selling small commodities.

It should be his wife who got bitten by a snake.

"Thank you, Mr. Knight!" The man’s face was a bit red as he put down a bottle of red wine, "If you guys didn’t have antivenom, I don’t know what I would have done..."

"Don’t be careless." Sean said, "The antivenom might provide some relief, but it won’t completely neutralize the venom. It’s best to cut the wound open, let it bleed, tie it up, and loosen it every now and then...

We are nearing the Capital City now. Once we get there, rush her to the hospital as soon as possible."

The man nodded vigorously and then left.

Only then did Douglas speak up:

"His wife is a bit of a clean freak, when going to relieve herself, she insists on going far away. There was grass behind the shrubbery, she wanted to pull the grass, Captain Hastings warned of snakes but she paid it no heed, and then..."

You can’t help it if they get bitten by a snake.

The chaotic scene of the convoy compared with their systematic one made Marilyn feel strange.

They were obviously fleeing!

Yet why does it feel like they were on an actual camping vacation!

Clearly, it’s two entirely different mindsets - when she was originally in the front car, she too was very flustered and didn’t pay attention to many details.
