Chapter 705: Chapter 444: Whose Peach Blossom Has Arrived_2
Sean, come, let me introduce you to everyone."
Christopher Hughes introduced the others to Sean Knight.
Car No. 1 was driven by the company’s driver, Jim Johnson, with Christopher Hughes, a technician, and a translator also on board.
Car No. 2 had the accident. It was driven by a newly-employed college student named Kevin Edwards, who had a driver’s license but not much driving experience. The car was carrying two workers and a local black family member with a child.
Car No. 3 was a pickup truck, driven by the company’s logistical assistant, Samuel Hayes, with two cooks and a truckload of supplies.
Car No. 4 and Car No. 5 were temporary additions to the convoy, just like Sean’s car. Both drivers were going to do business, selling China’s light industrial products.
Both of them brought their families with them, including wives and children. The initial plan was to make money and travel together, but they encountered a war on the way.
After introducing everyone, they began to analyze the problem.
Sean didn’t know much about cars, so he asked Elijah Hastings to take a look.
"A blown tire and a faulty fan. Both need to be replaced."
Elijah quickly identified the problem after a quick glance.
"To replace them? We do have spare tires, but we don’t have spare parts for the fan!" The drivers became anxious upon hearing this.
Changing tires could be managed since every car basically had one, but how to replace the fan?
Sean had an idea and said to Christopher Hughes:
"Manager Thompson, if this car can’t be driven, how about squeezing people into the other cars? We can make room for a few here."
Christopher Hughes seemed hesitant, not sure if he was unwilling to give up the car or if he had other thoughts.
Seeing his attitude, Sean didn’t say anything more and waited to see their solution.
After all, they had joined the convoy later, and it was enough to put forward their ideas. There was no need to force others to obey.
Everybody had their own thoughts, and those couldn’t be imposed on others.
Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper also got out of their car. Although it was hot outside, at least there was some wind to cool them down, making it more tolerable than staying inside the stuffy car.
Watching these people resting in groups under the shade of the cars, Lincoln and the others took out some water to drink.
Sean and Elijah also grabbed a bottle of water and drank it all in one breath.
At this moment, they noticed that the others were not drinking bottled mineral water, but big buckets of water.
The black woman was feeding her less-than-one-year-old child the same water.
Sean hurriedly took a few bottles of water over to her:
"Give this to your child instead. That water ... isn’t very good."
He could tell that the water was probably taken from a nearby water source on the spot. It was unknown whether it was boiled or not. It might be fine for adults, but not suitable for children.
Sean guessed that these people had run from the war zone and were not well-prepared with supplies, which was why they were in this situation.
"Sean, we plan to keep trying and persevere." Christopher Hughes came to find Sean, "If we change the tire on that car, it should still be able to hold on. If we can make it to the nearest town, we might be able to find a fan."
"What do you need us to do?" Sean nodded, indicating that he understood.
"Help change the tires. Not just one tire is blown, but two."
"No problem."
Elijah and Lincoln went over to help change the tires. Judging by the time, Christopher Hughes told everyone :
"We still have a while before the tires are changed. Let’s get ready for lunch. Company people follow the previous arrangements, and those who have brought their supplies just eat on their own. We’ll regroup and move on later."
Sean observed and realized that Christopher Hughes’ arrangement was for the first three cars, which belonged to the same company, to eat together as their food was all on the pickup truck, while Cars No. 4 and 5 had their own supplies, so they were taking care of themselves.
After changing the tires, Sean and the others began preparing their food, which included self-heating food that was quick and easy to prepare.
There were a few older children in the convoy, playing and running around among the cars during the break.
They were the only ones carefree.
Occasionally, adults would scold them a couple of times, but it didn’t affect their playfulness.
A child’s cry caught Sean’s attention. He saw a young girl from Car No. 1 go over and talk to the black woman.
The black woman seemed worried, shaking her head.
The young girl was an energy company translator, wearing glasses, with an anxious look on her face.
Lincoln and Douglas watched the girl, and then Douglas went over and asked her a couple of questions.
When he came back, Douglas said:
"The child is still breastfeeding, but because of the war, her mother has no milk. They didn’t bring any infant formula in their city supplies, only dry cakes.
Now the child is hungry, and the mother tried feeding soaked dry cakes, but the child won’t eat, so..."
Sean looked at the anxious black mother and the female translator going from car to car asking for help, then turned around and went to his car. When he came out, he handed a package of rice paste to Douglas ///
"Here, give it to them. Mix it with warm boiled water, and it’s suitable for the infant to drink."
Douglas was delighted and immediately took the rice paste and ran over to them.
"Boss, why did you bring this?" Elijah was curious.
"I don’t know how it ended up in the car when I was packing." Sean vaguely said, "I didn’t expect it to be useful here."
Douglas found the female translator, who happily took the rice paste package, and then asked Douglas where it came from.
Douglas pointed in Sean’s direction. The female translator saw Sean’s profile and Lincoln, who was facing her directly.
