Chapter 698: Chapter 442: This Fisherman Must Be Startled!

The four of them immediately stuck close to the wall, carefully listening to the sounds outside.

Sean Knight activated his Sky Eye and looked outside, discovering that the exterior of the big iron door was not the true "outside" but rather the perimeter of the Divine Temple, surrounded by a semi-closed surrounding wall.

However, the entire temple was currently shrouded in sand, and even with his Sky Eye, he couldn’t see what was beyond the two layers of space.

The gunshots came from outside the semi-closed wall, Sean Knight whispered to Elijah Hastings and the others:

"Let’s get past this iron door first. The gunshots are still distant."

Once Elijah Hastings and the others managed to calm themselves, they also arrived at the same conclusion and approached the big iron door.

The iron gate was locked from the inside, they twisted open the long rusted lock and opened the gate.

Elijah Hastings didn’t exert much strength in opening the gate, but it swung open inside with a swift movement!

A large quantity of sand rushed in!

Turned out, the outside of this iron gate had almost been buried by sand, revealing only the top.

The light they had seen before was coming through the top.

They immediately retreated. Once the flow of sand decreased, they began to climb out.

After stepping out of the iron gate and climbing onto a pile of sand that was about one to two meters high, they got a clear view of their surroundings.

This place was in between two walls.

The outer surrounding wall which was semi-closed, was now filled with sand and nothing else.

The exterior of the surrounding wall was all sand, and the slightest movement caused more sand to seep inside.

The outermost wall was shaped like an arch or a bow, and it was less than two meters away from the temple wall.

Looking at the sand all around the four-meter-high surrounding edge, then looking back towards the temple side, the top had been eroded, leaving only some remnants of stone wall.

Sean Knight could guess that from a distance, it might not even be noticeable that there was a crevice here, it might look like a relic poking out of the desert sand, or even just a stone.

The gunfire continued to come in intermittent bursts.

"It’s about four or five hundred meters away." Lincoln Harrington listened carefully, saying, "One side uses automatic firearms, the other uses old World War II weapons, similar to those used by the Swastika Force in the temple."

Douglas Cooper couldn’t help but speculate:

"Could it be that remnants of the Swastika Force are battling those people who came from the outside?"

"Unlikely." Sean shook his head, it really was unlikely that any of the Swastika Force could still be alive.

Although there was water underground in the temple, various signs suggested that the underground area of the temple had basically not been disturbed.

Aside from that, there wasn’t much source of food around. There was no way the Swastika Force could have survived for seventy or eighty years until now.

Although supernatural phenomena do exist - his own Sky Eye was one example - Sean did not believe in the existence of things like zombies and the undead as portrayed in movies and TV shows.

"Why don’t we just go out and see?" Elijah Hastings suggested impatiently, "Who cares who they are? What does it have to do with us?"

"Let’s hurry back, if it’s convenient, we can make a few more trips to transport the stuff from inside.

This is what’s really important!"

Elijah Hastings’ words brought everyone back to reality. Indeed, that was the most important thing!

The four of them immediately stepped onto the pile of sand and began to climb up.

The sand was very steep. As soon as they stepped on, the sand swallowed their lower legs, then the sand on top began to flow down with a rustling sound.

It took quite an effort for them to finally get to the top of the surrounding wall. This wall was arch-shaped; if not for the sand, they might not have been able to climb it.

There was still a considerable amount of sand piled up on the wall. As they climbed, the sand slid down in chunks. Sean began to worry that the movement would draw the attention of both fighting parties.

"The gunfire has stopped!" Lincoln Harrington suddenly said, "It was abrupt!"

"Did our movements attract their attention?" Sean guessed. "Let’s get ready for combat!"

"Okay!"

"Yes!"

All four of them readied their backpacks, loaded their guns, and then climbed up the sandbags.

Sean looked towards the direction of the gunshots.

One side of the battling parties consisted of five armed militants carrying automatic rifles and wearing camouflage uniforms. Just by looking at their outfits, they were several levels above those who attacked Iman’s village.

On the other side were people wearing the same clothes as the Divine Servants in the temple, and indeed, as Lincoln Harrington had said, they carried the same weapons as those used by the Swastika Force below.

Although these Divine Servants were more numerous, they were clearly inferior in terms of tactical acumen and weapon sophistication, hence despite starting out as a group of twenty or so, several of them have already been injured or killed.

Both parties were taking cover behind rocks in the desert.

Those rocks looked more like beams of stone bulging out of the sand, resembling natural bunkers.

The two bunkers formed a shape like the number eight.

Sean and his party were in the center of the figure "eight", an intersection point where the two lines of the figure did not meet.

He could clearly see both sides, and the battling factions could see them too.

That’s why even before they revealed their heads, the falling sand had already caught the attention of those people.

Everyone was watching as Sean and the others showed themselves.

Seeing this scene, they felt somewhat awkward.

"Let’s go, retreat!" Sean was decisive and immediately gave the order.

However, it was too late.
