Chapter 690: Chapter 439: After a Series of Thrilling Events..._2

"We’ll climb the mountain early tomorrow, let’s get some food and have a good rest."

Douglas Cooper had been extremely excited since he dug out the candlestick:

"Boss, there’s a water pit ahead, shall we go and have a look?"

"No need." Sean wondered what could be interesting about a water pit.

"Wild animals might come to drink water at night, be careful." Elijah Hastings warned.

Douglas Cooper patted his gun and said carelessly:

"Why be afraid? We have this!"

Then he asked Lincoln Harrington:

"Lincoln, do you want to go and have a look?"

"Alright, I’ll go set some traps to see if we can catch something for tomorrow’s meal," Lincoln said, taking a piece of wire from his backpack. "Let’s go."

The two walked towards the water pit.

Meanwhile, Sean and the others were preparing dinner.

Although the outdoor conditions were simple, three meals a day still had to be properly prepared.

They set up a gas stove, cooked porridge, cut luncheon meat, and opened a few cans of fish.

After finishing these preparations, they took out water and began heating up the self-heating food.

Though not very tasty, it was better than compressed dried food.

That kind of food was popular in Elder Iman’s village.

Of course, in terms of nutrition and taste, the self-heating food outperformed the cassava paste they had for breakfast and dinner.

But when they had self-heating food available, they’d hardly touch compressed dried food.

When the self-heating food had heated enough, Lincoln and the others had also returned.

"This water pit is much bigger than the one we saw before," said Douglas Cooper. "But there are not many footprints nearby. Lincoln set a few traps, but we don’t know if we’ll catch anything."

"We’ll know tomorrow," Lincoln said while eating.

They rested as usual in the evening. According to Sean’s plan, they would be well-rested to search for the whereabouts of the Divine Temple tomorrow morning.

The night passed without a word.

The second day, at first light, Elijah and Lincoln changed their guard, and went to the water pit.

"Be careful!"

Then Sean and the others woke up too and started preparing food.

After more than half an hour, everything was tidied up, and the food was ready, but there was still no sign of Lincoln, and the others started to panic.

"Let’s go and check."

The three of them quickly ran to the water pit a few hundred meters away.

Not far from the water pit, a helpless deer was lying.

Its hooves were caught in a trap and it couldn’t break free.

From the deer to the water pit, there were traces of muddy dragging.

Then, by the edge of the water pit, there were several deep footprints!

But there was no trace of Lincoln!

Suddenly, something was rolling around in the water pit, and blood stains emerged every now and then!

"Is there a monster underwater?" Elijah and Douglas panicked, about to jump in!

"Wait!" At this moment, Sean activated his Sky Eye and saw that the water pit was about seven or eight meters deep, and the bottom was covered with thick silt.

Right now, several large catfish, about one to two meters long, were rolling about in the water pit!

One of them was injured and being torn apart by the others!

However, these three catfish did not have Lincoln inside them.

So, where did Lincoln go?

"Boss, what’s going on? Isn’t Lincoln underwater?"

"There are some large catfish fighting underwater," Sean pointed at the fish fins that occasionally surfaced. "As long as we can get them out, we’ll know whether Lincoln is underwater."

The three of them joined forces, and in no time, they dragged out the catfish—mainly because they were too greedy and wanted to swallow the people as soon as they got to the water.

Their stomachs were cut open, and there was no Lincoln inside.

By then, Sean no longer stopped Douglas Cooper from going into the water to search for Lincoln.

Originally, the water pit had a diameter of only about twenty to thirty meters, but after searching for half an hour, they found nothing.

Sean’s Sky Eye could not see through the deep silt.

Where could Lincoln go?

He and Elijah searched around for a while but still couldn’t find Lincoln’s shadow.

Now they were in a dilemma!

"What should we do now?" Douglas Cooper’s face turned sour. "If I hadn’t suggested going to the water pit last night, nothing would’ve happened!"

"Let’s keep looking around," Sean said. "We don’t have to worry about finding the treasure for now."

This sparked some energy in Elijah and Douglas Cooper!

"Right, right, let’s keep looking!"

"Let’s search nearby and wait. Maybe he’ll show up at some point!"

Though they said so, they all knew it was wishful thinking.

As expected, they expanded the search range, and the three of them went underwater to search twice more, finding nothing.

The day passed, and the three of them stood by the tent, speechless.

When it was almost bedtime, Elijah suddenly spoke:

"Let’s not look for him here tomorrow, let’s search further up the mountain..."

Douglas Cooper grabbed Elijah’s collar angrily:

"Captain Hastings, that’s not like you! Lincoln has been with us through life and death, and we can’t just give up... The boss said we need to keep looking! Searching for the treasure can wait!"

"Where can we look? How far could he go in half an hour?" Elijah shrugged him off and countered:

"Could he run ten kilometers? Is there anywhere else to hide around here? We’ve seen that the largest wild animal here is a few skinny wild dogs - they can’t harm Lincoln!"

"Then where do you think Lincoln is?" Douglas Cooper choked and weakened his tone.

Elijah looked at Sean.

"Highly likely..." Sean thought about it and shared his guess, "Highly likely, he got trapped in the muddy silt when fighting with the giant catfish..."
