Chapter 680: Chapter 436: One Loop After Another, Each Different From the Rest!
"Boss, don’t worry, let us go and check it out first!" Douglas Cooper stopped the car, and the vehicle behind, driven by Lincoln Harrington, also stopped. He said to Sean Knight:
"You wait here, we’ll be back soon!"
Having said that, the two of them picked up their guns and went into the village stealthily.
Sean Knight also took his gun out of the car and hid beside a dirt slope.
About ten minutes later, Douglas Cooper, Lincoln Harrington, and Elijah Hastings all ran to the village entrance together.
Seeing no sign of any danger, Sean Knight emerged.
"Boss!" Elijah Hastings ran over, "We’re going to need your help this time!"
"You’ve brought us a wealth-making opportunity. There’s no trouble at all!" Sean Knight grinned and asked,
"What’s going on? Why is there a fire in the village?"
"Ah, it’s all because of this treasure!" Elijah Hastings explained:
"The news has been spreading, and there are many people coming here with the intention of grabbing the treasure. The people who survived the destruction of the other villages have come here now.
Those with ill intentions are all coming this way. If they can’t find the key person, they cause fires and chaos in the village..."
"Aren’t the villagers fighting back?" Sean Knight was curious.
Be it on the news or the internet, Sean believed that Africans, while not the most powerful, mostly possessed old weapons. They might not be aggressive, but they should be able to defend themselves, right?
"In this remote and underdeveloped area, interactions with the outside world are limited. Even the hunters still use the most ancient homemade bows and arrows. Those who come to take advantage of us have modern firearms. There’s no way we can compete!"
"Well, it’s a coincidence that we’ve brought some second-hand guns this time. Maybe we can give them to you."
"Let’s go to the village first." Elijah Hastings reached out his hand in invitation, "I’ll introduce you to the village elder."
As Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper started their cars again, Sean Knight noticed that about a dozen villagers had come to the entrance by this time.
An old man in the middle held a wooden stick in his hand, and it was clear that he was the village elder, at least by how the others around him respected him.
The old man appeared to be very aged. If Sean were to guess, he would think that the old man was at least eighty years old considering his appearance.
He was very thin, skin and bones with a body weight of only about 30 to 40 kilograms. The old man was slightly hunched, but his eyes were sharp and spirited.
"This is Elder Iman, the oldest and wisest person in our village. He’s 57 years old and learned English, so communication is possible."
"Hello, Elder Iman," Sean Knight greeted him as soon as the group approached.
Really? Fifty-seven years old and looking this aged? Was it typical for the villagers to look older than their actual age?
"Hello, Mr. Knight," The elder’s English was quite fluent, "Thank you for coming to help our village through this difficult time.
Mr. Hastings told us that you would definitely come, and at first, we didn’t believe it. It appears now that you truly keep your word."
Sean Knight felt that there was no need for such formalities. He pointed to the cars and said:
"I brought some rifles with me. Although they are second-hand, they should be able to increase the combat capabilities of the villagers. After all, we can’t stay here forever..."
"We are very grateful!" Iman’s face lit up with joy, "We will pay you for this. In the past, we thought we lived a peaceful life, with no wars reaching us deep in the desert.
Now it seems that we were too naïve!"
With that said, he turned to Sean Knight, and said:
"Mr. Knight, please come to the village! Now, you are our most distinguished guests!"
Sean Knight was quite pleased to have been accepted by the locals.
Upon entering the village, Sean found that the place was truly impoverished.
The houses in the village were mostly made of mud or mud bricks. Most of them were like primitive straw huts with a round shape.
Even the mud brick houses reminded Sean of the ones he used to live in many years back in his own village.
Many villagers curiously stood at the entrance of their homes, watching Sean and his companions.
Most of the villagers wore no shirts, and some were just wrapped in a piece of cloth around their waist, showing no embarrassment.
The skin color of the villagers was not pure black, but slightly brownish. Sean recalled a documentary he once watched about indigenous Africans hunting, and they looked similar to the people in the film.
They were generally shorter, around 1.5 or 1.6 meters tall, with the tallest not even reaching 1.7 meters.
Many children played naked in front of their homes, and they curiously surrounded Sean Knight and his companions, giggling as they watched.
Elder Iman led Sean Knight and the others to a three-room mud-brick house in the center of the village.
Sean could see that this was the most "luxurious" house in the village.
"Please, Mr. Knight, come in." Iman was very polite.
Sean entered the main room and found the house’s furniture to be primitive wooden pieces. In the middle was a pit filled with burnt ash and embers, still warm, with a red glow underneath the ashes.
Following Iman into the house were Sean Knight, Elijah Hastings, and Douglas Cooper, as well as a relatively tall young man.
Lincoln Harrington stayed outside to watch the cars.
"This is Edgar Patterson, the bravest warrior in our village. Mr. Hastings led him and other warriors to defeat those who attacked us earlier."
As curious faces appeared at the entrance, Iman spoke a few words to them in their native language, and they hurried away.
"Mr. Knight, I know why you’re here, but we can only proceed with the matter after we resolve the most significant crisis facing our village," Iman said as he sat by the fire pit, revealing his purpose.
