Chapter 678: Chapter 435: Going Against the Flow!
Sean Knight explained to Mark Knight and his wife that Elijah Hastings needed their help.
"You should go. We’ll be here with Lana, you don’t have to worry about us." Ralph Knight said.
"When people risked their lives to help Zack, we can’t play safe when they’re in trouble. Just go, but take care of yourself."
"You must stay safe!" Mark and his wife both cautioned him.
They possess the purest sentiments of farmers from China.
If someone risked their life to rescue us, then we should help them when they’re in trouble.
There’s nothing more to it.
Sean Knight and Douglas Cooper boarded a private jet and returned to China to meet up with Lincoln Harrington.
However, when Sean mentioned that he was planning to fly to Africa, the crew refused.
"It’s too dangerous. We can’t go there."
Sean patiently explained:
"We’re not headed to that specific country, but the neighboring one, which is peaceful and not at war."
"No, no, no, it’s still dangerous." said Howard Kensington, the white pilot hired from New York with fifteen years of flying experience, shaking his head, "We can’t risk our lives like that."
"Are you certain that you can’t go? The place we’re headed isn’t a war zone; it’s safe!" Sean still wanted the crew to understand his perspective, "We’re going to pick someone up and take care of some business. We’ll be back in a maximum of three days."
"I can’t risk my crew’s lives." Howard was stubborn, "Mr. Knight, that contradicts my professional ethics."
"Alright then, our contract terminates here." Angry, Sean dismissed them, "I refuse to believe that without Butcher Collins, we can only eat pigs with fur."
"Mr. Knight, you can’t do this. Doing so jeopardizes the safety of our crew and passengers..."
"Clearly written in the contract, it states that I have not asked you to fly us to a war-torn area. By refusing me, you’re breaching the contract, and I have the right to fire you unilaterally. Leave!"
Sean didn’t want to reason further with them.
"I regret..." Howard didn’t expect Sean to be so determined. He initially planned to persuade Sean otherwise, but ultimately held his tongue.
A high salary comes with its risks.
"Boss, I have someone in mind who can fly a plane." Lincoln said, "One of my comrades from the military used to be an Air Force pilot. He worked in civil aviation after retiring.
However, because he couldn’t stand the behavior of some senior management and defended a flight attendant by speaking up, he was fired. Currently, he’s jobless and at home."
"How’s his skill?" In Sean’s current situation, he was concerned principally about the pilot’s skill--if he could fly them to Africa.
"He flew international routes, so there’s no problem with his skills." Lincoln was confident.
"Then contact him. We need to go urgently."
Though they could buy tickets to fly there, not only is having to transfer planes an inconvenience, Elijah also explicitly stated over a phone call that certain situations required a private jet or they would not be convenient.
Lincoln immediately summoned this person, who arrived that same night.
He was slightly older than Lincoln but looked to be almost thirty years old.
Like Elijah and Lincoln, he had the habit of shaving his head, and he hadn’t entirely lost the soldier’s air yet. He just looked a bit dispirited.
"I’m Charles Young, a former Air Force Nine fighter pilot. After retiring, I joined a certain passenger airline. I’m currently jobless due to personal reasons."
Charles Young’s voice was a bit low, but his speech was clear and not at all vague.
"Can you fly a Gulfstream 800?" Sean asked, "A long-haul one. I need to go to Africa to take care of some business, to a neighboring country of a war-torn nation."
"No problem." Charles replied confidently, "As long as we can apply for the route, there’s no problem!"
"Alright, get the paperwork ready. Let’s try it out first." Even though Sean didn’t suspect his capabilities, he wanted to see his skills firsthand.
After Charles got the paperwork and got on the plane, Sean watched Charles pilot the plane skillfully, and this pretty much alleviated Sean’s worries.
The airplane ascended smoothly, giving almost no sensation of turbulence as it rose to the stratosphere, where it maintained a steady flight all the way to Hua Xia’s westernmost international airport.
"What a high-performance airplane!" After disembarking, Charles praised, "The handling is really good."
This was the first time Sean had heard someone describe an airplane this way.
"However, aren’t there too few people on the plane?" Charles seemed puzzled, "Mr. Patrick told me that you needed a pilot, but I thought it was just the captain who left..."
"I fired the previous crew because they were unwilling to go to Africa."
"Then...shall I introduce a few?" Charles had begun to understand Sean and ventured to ask.
"Let’s wait until we return from Africa. We really don’t have time now." Sean pondered for a moment, though he had no doubt about hiring more people. However, he genuinely didn’t have the time right now. Though Elijah didn’t explicitly say it was an emergency on his end, Sean still needed to get there as fast as he could.
In reality, this situation was simply a coincidence.
Elijah and his wife Isla Hastings went on their honeymoon while Sean was returning home. After visiting Big Island for a few days, they joined a tour group intending to travel around the world.
They first toured Egypt and saw the pyramids after bypassing the Southeast Peninsula. Then they planned to go to Africa.
However, while in Egypt, while touring the pyramids with the local guide, they ran into a group of treasure hunters who had come to seek their fortune there.
Elijah instructed Isla to return to the hotel, and followed them secretly.
Perhaps because he had spent a lot of time with Sean, he was sensitive to such matters and ended up following them deep into Africa.
They had gone quite far, and Elijah initially planned to give up and leave since he was supposed to be spending his honeymoon with Isla.
To his surprise, the other party discovered him and gave chase. They had more people, and Elijah didn’t want to lead them back to the hotel, so he kept running in circles in the desert and eventually got lost.
