Chapter 661: Chapter 426: Meeting Old Friends Always Brings Happiness_2
Sean realized that the freight yard had doubled in size since he last saw it!
"With Ms. Kathy’s consent, I bought another piece of land around the freight yard," Jason explained. "The economy has improved a bit recently, so I thought it was a good time to act quickly.
Currently, our container auction is the largest one in the port. There is a smaller auction site, but Ms. Kathy advised that it’s in our best interest to keep it around, so I haven’t taken any further action."
Sean understood that Americans can be quite strict regarding monopolies in some business sectors. Having competition at least keeps regulators from giving them too much trouble.
Of course, paying taxes properly is essential.
"Our auction house currently brings in a net income of 800,000 US dollars a month, mainly because someone found a safe full of gold jewelry in a container. The jewelry’s worth is estimated at over a hundred thousand US dollars.
This attracted many treasure hunters to our auction. We have bought 70% of the unclaimed containers in the port."
When the topic of the freight yard business came up, Jason immediately appeared more confident and displayed the demeanor of a successful businessman.
"For ordinary container storage and transfer, we are still considered a second-tier freight yard in the port. Some customers have their own fixed yards, and it is not easy to attract them with favorable policies."
"Take it slow, no rush, you’ve already done a great job." Sean said.
As they talked, Sean noticed that many of the black employees in the yard were unfamiliar to him.
"I’ve recruited some people from my hometown," Jason explained. "Coming here to work is tough for them and some have to resort to illegal activities. I don’t want to see them end up dead..."
"Alright, just be more selective when recruiting."
Jason knew that Sean was referring to the incident with Bondi. He nodded and said:
"Don’t worry, Bosun! I’ll be very strict with whom I bring in. They will have clear guidelines to follow and I don’t want to be the one to ruin their lives either."
In a separate section of the yard, container auctions were taking place. Jason thought Sean would want to take a look, but Sean lost interest when he saw Mr. Madden, Diana, and others engaged in fierce bidding.
Along the way, those who were once respected now desperately followed behind him, and some were even left far behind.
It felt strange.
Mr. Madden successfully bid for a container which he believed contained at least 10,000 US dollars in goods. Feeling pleased, he patted the container door and turned around, catching a glimpse of a familiar figure.
But when he looked again, he couldn’t find anything.
Had his eyes deceived him?
That figure had distinctly resembled that lucky kid, Sean.
He couldn’t help but wonder where Sean was and what he was up to now.
After checking out the entire freight yard, Sean went to visit Mr. John
With the energy nourishment from the golden figurines, Mr. John didn’t look old at all.
"Sean, I’m so glad you came to see me!"
Seeing Sean, Mr. John was extremely delighted: "I was just complaining to Paul that you might have forgotten about us."
"How could that be?" Sean stepped forward and gave Mr. John a big hug, "I’ve just been really busy lately. I bought an island in the tropics and have been working on cleaning it up. You’re welcome to visit my island anytime you like!"
"I’m too old for that," Mr. John patted Sean and laughed. "It’s the thought that counts. Everyone always talks about how you Chinese people are different, so nostalgic..."
Sean turned around and took a package from the backpack Douglas handed him, then went on to present gifts:
"This wine is from China and Mongolia, you can give it a try. These pastries are from a famous Chinese food store with a history of several hundred years. This ring is something I found while treasure hunting, it has a history of about a thousand years..."
Looking at the growing pile of goodies on the counter, Mr. John was amazed:
"Sean, are you helping me move? So many things..."
"Well, it has been a long time since we last met!"
Sean smiled and watched as Mr. John carefully examined each gift, clearly enjoying himself.
"Mr. John, aren’t you going to share some of what Sean brought with us?"
"No, no, no! There’s none for you!" Old John promptly hid the stuff under the counter upon hearing the customer’s words, "This is what Sean brought for me!"
His expressions and words provoked laughter from the customers. It was rare to see Old John be so stingy, and Sean’s identity aroused curiosity among the strangers.
Those who knew would tell about Sean’s amazing experiences.
After spending two hours with Old John, Sean went to see Paul.
Paul was still the Director of the Port Police Station. When Sean saw him, he was shocked!
"Paul, how did you gain so much weight?"
Paul’s belly was indeed three times bigger!
"What can I do?" Paul came over with a bitter smile and hugged Sean. "Before I used to run around outside every day, no matter how much I ate, all the energy would be burned. Now I sit in the office every day, eat too much and the fat accumulates..."
Sean put a box on Paul’s desk:
"I’ve been away for a while, and my Freight Yard was well-cared for by you. This is a gift for you."
Paul waved his hand saying:
"Don’t say that, your Jason is very resourceful. We couldn’t intervene in some Port affairs, but he found someone to help handle it. He has saved me a lot of trouble. What’s this?"
"Open it and see."
Paul curiously opened the box and was surprised to find two gold bricks inside.
"This is..."
"It’s something I found at the bottom of the sea when I went out. I’m giving it to you as a gift."
"Thank you." Paul didn’t bother with Sean’s politeness. "You guys are so free, go wherever you want. What have you been up to recently?"
"I bought an island in the tropics lately and have been busy with things on the island. When you have time, you can come over and take a look, have some fun."
Although Paul knew Sean made a lot of money treasure hunting, he didn’t expect him to have bought an island already.
He had once felt superior about being a Police Station Director, but now he suddenly didn’t feel that great anymore!
After spending half an hour at Paul’s place and seeing someone come to report their work, Sean took his leave.
One of Sean’s main tasks in New York was to take delivery of the two planes.
The private jet chosen is the Gulfstream G800, the latest model, capable of almost supersonic travel uninterrupted over 8,000 sea miles, fully meeting Sean’s needs.
The Boeing 747-8 was also a recently assembled plane. It had been used for less than three months in an American airline before financial difficulties led to its sale, and was promptly bought by Kathy.
The brand new Gulfstream 800 costs 7,200 US dollars, while the Boeing 747 is much higher, worth several hundred million.
For the regional passenger plane, Sean simply chose the domestic Light Boat. It’s close to the Big Island and cheaper, and as a mature model, it can also be bought off the shelf.
However, in New York, he needed some time to complete the necessary procedures to acquire the planes.
Having seen all that he needed to in Port, Sean went with Jason to see his new home.
"Thanks to Bosuns, I now have my own home. This Courtyard was chosen by Freya, and we both love it—the neighborhood is very safe, and I’m not worried about anyone coming over to cause trouble."
On the way, Jason kept talking nonstop about his situation.
Both Sean and the driver, Douglas Cooper, could tell that Jason was very happy and genuinely grateful to Sean.
The small courtyard was not far from the Port, only about ten minutes by car.
Sean guessed that Jason chose it so he could get to work conveniently.
Then he saw Freya waiting at the Entrance of the small courtyard.
