Chapter 609: Chapter 400: The Ultimate Shamelessness
Sean Knight left the Cooper family’s house with a dark expression on his face.
Vanessa Harrison learned from the neighbors that Alston Cooper had spread the news of Sean’s arrival as something to boast about, so she couldn’t say anything more to Sean.
After all, this was a rapid reversal—she had just said that Alston was more reliable than Douglas Cooper, but now the situation had completely flipped.
Even Sean’s whereabouts had been leaked; what else wouldn’t they say?
After getting in the car, Douglas Cooper apologized to Sean with a flushed face:
"Boss, I... I’m sorry..."
"What does this have to do with you?" Sean’s face had somehow returned to normal as he shook his head and said:
"I don’t mean you. There are some things I’ve only seen in television series and novels, but this is my first time encountering it in real life..."
Douglas lowered his head in silence.
Lincoln Harrington, who was driving, suddenly spoke up:
"Douglas, this can’t go on. If you keep giving in, your family will keep taking from you. If this continues, either your relationship with your family will break or it will hurt your feelings."
Douglas still didn’t speak.
"Lincoln’s right," said Sean, trying to persuade him:
"You have to make it clear with your family; otherwise, they’ll think your giving in is only natural, and they will keep pushing your limits. In the end, you’ll either be forced to run away from home, or you’ll end up breaking everything, and ultimately, you won’t be happy."
Upon hearing this, Douglas lifted his head with red eyes and said:
"I’ll give it some thought."
From an outsider’s perspective, it was just a feeling of frustration.
But from Douglas’s position, all he wanted was to gain his family’s approval and acceptance through his own efforts.
That’s true, but the method was wrong.
Even with family, if there are no boundaries, there will inevitably be problems in the end.
But as the protagonist, it is ultimately up to Douglas to decide how to proceed.
Seeing that there was still time, Sean suggested:
"Let’s go to the pier and take a look."
The car turned towards the pier, and a fishy smell hit them.
The pier was not very big, with only a few motor fishing boats and even some small wooden boats.
The puddles on the pier hadn’t dried up yet, and fish scales could be seen in them. A dead fish had been thrown on the side of the road and had already dried up.
There weren’t many boats at the pier, and Sean guessed that some boats were probably still out fishing or that this was just a small pier that couldn’t accommodate many boats.
"Do you guys usually go out to sea to fish in boats like these?" Sean asked, pointing at the motorboats.
"Yes," Douglas replied, "Boss, we can’t compare this place with Jakarta. But if you go a dozen or so kilometers further, there’s a big harbor where there are big ships."
"Are there any yachts available for rent?" Sean asked.
"Yes," Douglas said. "I knew you wouldn’t like these motorboats. There are yachts and sailboats for rent there, and it’s not expensive."
"Then let’s go and have a look," Sean said as he walked back to the car.
Lincoln started the car, and Douglas sat in the passenger seat, giving directions.
As expected, when they arrived at the big harbor, the place was much busier.
Douglas brought Sean to the place where they rented boats and called out to the inside:
"Mr. Young, come out and greet the guests!"
"Yo, Douglas!" A bald man came out, smiling at the sight of Douglas. "Why didn’t you tell me earlier that you were coming? I could’ve prepared."
"What’s there to prepare? We can’t drink during work hours."
"A simple drink or two is fine." Mr. Young, who was about the same age as Douglas, smiled at everyone.
"This is our boss," Douglas said. "We’re here to rent a yacht, a big one, a comfortable one. One that can stay out for several days—the newer the better."
Having spent some time with Sean on the sea near Big Island, Douglas naturally knew Sean’s requirements.
Upon hearing this, Mr. Young understood that money was not a problem; what mattered was quality and service.
"I heard that you’ve gotten rich. I didn’t believe it at first, but now I really do." Mr. Young said something to Douglas and then, extending both hands with a smile, said to Sean:
"Hello, boss! Thank you for giving me this business... Nowadays, my business is really hard to do."
Mr. Young’s real name was John Young, and he had gone fishing with Douglas in their childhood. They had been soldiers together, but Mr. Young had joined the Air Force Ground Staff and returned after two years, then found this job through connections.
"This is the best yacht registered here," said Mr. Young, introducing it to Sean. "Starfish, a domestic brand-name, is also well-known abroad. It’s 32 meters long and has a sci-fi feel.
The previous owner, due to the economic downturn, only had the yacht for less than a year before leaving it here because they couldn’t afford to operate it or didn’t have time to use it."
Sean liked the look of the yacht, and after touring the inside, which was neat and tidy, decided to rent it.
"The day after tomorrow, we’ll go out to sea," Douglas said. "Make sure you’re here, and don’t stand us up."
"You’re the one with the money; I wouldn’t dare stand you up... Do you want to do something tonight?"
"No, we have to go back."
"How about I come over to your place?" Mr. Young, probably bored with nothing to do and no one to chat with, seemed a bit persistent.
"No, no," Douglas waved his hand. "Wait for us to return from this trip, then come find us, and we’ll hang out all night."
"Alright, since you said that, I’ll wait." Mr. Young smiled.
As they left the harbor, Douglas said:
