Chapter 602: Chapter 397: What Broken Rules?

Sean Knight received a phone call from Elijah Hastings.

"Boss, I’m getting married in one week, and my wife and I would like to invite you to our wedding."

Elijah’s words delighted Sean, but also made him a little envious.

"Elijah, you’re amazing! Among all of us, you’re the first one to get married, setting an example for us!"

"So, boss, can you come?"

"Don’t worry, I’ll be there on time!" Sean was thrilled.

Although they had only known each other for less than two years, they had been through life and death together.

Elijah’s contributions to Sean’s business were invaluable, and Sean considered Elijah as a brother.

How could he not go to this brother’s wedding?

Then Sean started to worry a little.

What would be a good gift?

Money wouldn’t be much help to Elijah, so after some thought, Sean decided to give him something he would need.

After all, he was getting married!

Sean arrived in Elijah’s city a day early. Elijah had already booked a hotel for him.

It turned out that Sean was the last one to arrive. Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper had arrived three days earlier and had been busy helping Elijah with the wedding preparations.

These two were also members of Elijah’s best man group.

When Elijah came to see Sean, Sean looked unhappy:

"Elijah, this isn’t very thoughtful of you! They both get to be groomsmen, and I’m just a guest. You don’t consider me one of your own, do you?"

"Boss, you’ve helped me so much, I’d feel bad bothering you for my wedding. I just want you to come and have a good time. I have enough help from my comrades in arms, they’ll handle everything."

Sean knew Elijah meant it, so he patted him on the shoulder:

"Alright, I understand. You’ve been working hard for days; I can see the dark circles under your eyes. Take it easy, and I’ll be there for sure tomorrow. You don’t have to worry about me."

After Elijah left, Sean began to explore the city.

The city was not very big - somewhere between a third and fourth-tier city.

People weren’t very busy, and the population was even greater than that of Xinjiang.

Sean didn’t go to the city center since all cities had similar development. There wasn’t much to see.

Sean went straight to the city suburb, where the atmosphere was thicker.

As he walked around, he caught a whiff of a rich, distinctive aroma of noodle slices with sour soup.

He followed the smell and saw a middle-aged woman cooking noodle slices with sour soup at the entrance of a small alley.

There weren’t any cars coming by, and there wasn’t much dust. The woman was wearing a face mask, and the food on the tray was covered with gauze and a lid, which looked clean.

Next to the stall were two old-fashioned tables with benches welded to them, like the ones found in a community cafeteria. On the table, there were containers for vinegar, salt, and other seasonings, as well as paper napkins.

Everything looked neat and clean.

Smelling the aroma, Sean’s mouth watered. He walked over and ordered:

"Boss, give me a bowl of noodle slices!"

"Alright!" The woman agreed, finishing her portion of noodles and stirring the pot. When it came to a boil, she grabbed a handful of cilantro from under the lid and asked Sean:

"Do you want cilantro?"

"Yes." Sean had already pulled out a paper napkin and wiped the disposable chopsticks clean.

"Alright, it’s ready!" The woman carefully brought a big bowl of noodle slices to Sean, who quickly took it and set it down.

"This is a generous portion of noodle slices!" Sean commented as he looked at the full bowl.

"You can add more soup." The woman seemed to smile, even though she was wearing a mask.

"Great!" Sean took a spoonful of soup, blew on it, and took a sip. It tasted wonderful!

He picked up a few noodle slices and found them to be thin, allowing the flavors to penetrate, just the way he liked it!

Sean was very happy and began to eat heartily.

The woman was also happy seeing Sean enjoying his meal.

At that time, people started coming back from their jobs, smelling the delicious food and seeing Sean eating with gusto. A few approached the woman to ask for the price.

"Ten dollars a bowl!" said the middle-aged woman.

"It’s pretty cheap!"

"It smells delicious!"

"It must be good!"

"Boss, do you have any takeaway containers? I want to take a portion home..."

There were waves of people coming, and the middle-aged woman was busy serving them and collecting money.

After finishing his bowl of sour soup noodle slices, Sean felt some sweat on his forehead and quite comfortable.

He stood up, took out some money, and handed it to the woman:

"Boss, I’d like to pay."

"Ah, okay!" The woman took the money and fumbled in her cash box.

As she dealt with the other customers and searched for change, Sean had slipped away.

The next day, Sean arrived at the wedding venue rather late.

He figured he didn’t have any responsibilities there, so all he needed to do was bring a gift and enjoy himself.

At the entrance of the hotel, the character "喜" was displayed, and firecrackers were arranged in a heart shape on the vacant land. Elijah and a beautiful girl, dressed in wedding attire, stood outside to greet guests.

Seeing Sean coming, Elijah’s eyes lit up, and he immediately went up and said:

"Boss, you’ve arrived!"

"Congratulations! Congratulations!" Sean smiled and said, "Today you’re about to achieve two of the four great joys of life."

Elijah looked puzzled and asked, "Which two?"

To his surprise, it was Isla Hastings, Elijah’s wife, who blushed and lowered her head in embarrassment.

Sean thought to himself: It’s no wonder she’s a teacher; her reaction is so quick!

Taking the cigarette from Elijah and lighting it with Isla’s lighter, Sean took a puff and smiled:
