Chapter 433: Chapter 312: All Bad News
Old Master Andrew looked at Sean Knight, Cheryl Suweton, and the others with a teasing expression.
Apparently, he had known all along what they were up to.
Or maybe, he just wanted to play a prank on the young people who wanted to get rich quickly - there might be a chance to get rich quickly, but not necessarily for them.
However, knowing that those cars had passed there was good news.
So when Old Master Andrew went back to his room to rest, Sean Knight said with a smile:
"I think the treasure probably hasn’t been found yet; otherwise, the news should have leaked out by now."
Cheryl quickly agreed:
"I think so too."
"What about the mountain mine?" Douglas Cooper interjected, "I’ve heard that a lot of Schutzstaffel treasures have been found in mines and such. Should we go check it out, since we have time?"
"Okay," Sean Knight nodded.
Since they were not tired and they were eager to search, they bid farewell to the old man Andrew and drove their two cars out of the courtyard, heading towards the mine.
"The mine is about five kilometers away from the small town. It’s a copper mine, but it was abandoned a long time ago due to its small reserves," Cheryl said, very familiar with the data on the mines, providing directions and explanations.
As the mine has been abandoned for a long time, the original asphalt road has grown a lot of grass, and some sections have been pushed up by grass roots or tree roots, revealing the soil surface.
"There are new tire tracks," Elijah Hastings, who was driving the car, suddenly spoke up. "Recently, cars have been going in the direction of the mine, and not just one!"
Upon hearing this, everyone’s hearts tightened!
Five kilometers quickly passed, and they hadn’t even reached the mine when they saw four cars parked at the entrance.
Two off-road vehicles and two pickup trucks.
Five tents were set up nearby.
"Let’s go back," said Sean Knight, his voice devoid of any emotion.
Obviously, someone had gotten there before them.
"Shouldn’t we go down and have a look?" Cheryl asked, unwilling to give up just yet. "Maybe we could figure something out."
"There’s nothing to see. Since the other party has arrived, they must be well-prepared," Sean Knight sighed. "They might have even leased the mine, and we may not be able to enter."
It was evident that the other party had made preparations since they could find such an obvious target like the mine.
Cheryl was still unwilling to give up.
"Alright, you go ahead." Sean Knight asked Elijah to stop the car, and then accompanied Cheryl to check it out.
Soon, Cheryl returned with a dejected look.
"They really leased this place and don’t allow strangers to enter," Cheryl said despondently upon returning to the car. "The treasure may be receding from us..."
"Not necessarily," Sean Knight shook his head. "Since more than one group of people knows about the treasure in this area, the mine, as an obvious target, would not be overlooked."
The chances of the treasure being in the mine are slim - let’s go back and do some more research."
When they returned to Old Master Andrew’s courtyard, the group gathered in the room to discuss their next moves.
The discussion didn’t yield many solutions, and they ultimately decided to split up.
"Tomorrow, Cheryl will take Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper along the road west, asking where those cars passed decades ago. We need to find out the largest possible range."
Sean Knight pointed to the map and said:
"Elijah and I will explore the local terrain and see if there are any other possible locations for the treasure."
With no better plan, everyone else agreed and the plan was set in motion.
On the second day, after finishing breakfast hastily, Cheryl took their car and drove along the highway.
Sean Knight stayed behind and inquired about the local terrain with Old Master Andrew.
"Owl Town has beautiful scenery," Old Master Andrew said proudly. "There is a lake to the south, a river to the southwest, a forest to the north, a mountain, and a meadow..."
He sighed and added, "It’s just that there are too few people."
Indeed, if this place was more populated, it would be a great tourist area, but the population is too sparse.
Sean Knight understood that it was precisely because of the sparse population that the area has been able to maintain its pristine beauty. If there were more people, would those meadows still exist?
Arguing about this was fruitless, and Sean wasn’t going to argue with an eighty-year-old man. He got the information he needed and went out with Elijah to explore by car.
"We will circle around, leaving aside the mine area to the north and covering all other areas. The meadow... let’s leave it be for now; there’s little chance of finding anything there."
After setting the route, Elijah drove, and Sean Knight sat in the passenger seat, activating the Sky Eye search function.
Owl Town isn’t large in size, but there are plenty of places where treasure could be buried. Sean and Elijah moved slowly, eating a simple lunch outside at noon. By the time they returned in the evening, they had only covered about one-fifth of the planned survey area.
Cheryl and the others had also returned, and they exchanged information over dinner.
"The next town is called Elf Town, but the old people there don’t remember the cars passing by. However, they were only a few years old at the time, so they might not remember," Cheryl said, eating and talking.
"There is a fork in the road, with two more towns nearby and a larger city beyond that. We’ve also been to Battle Axe Town and Ayr Village, but there are no more elderly people there, and we haven’t found any results."
