Chapter 434: Chapter 312: All Bad News_2
"We plan to check out both towns at the forked road tomorrow. If we could gather some information, that would be great. If not, we plan to go look at the small city."
Sean Knight nodded, also discussing today’s survey situation.
Though no good news was obtained, these were all in their plans, and they were making progress, which was what was normal.
"Actually, our treasure hunting approach is the most normal," Cheryl Suweton said as she took a sip of soup. "Sean, I’ve heard about your past treasure-hunting experiences - I think those are just stories! Few treasure-hunting experiences are that smooth."
"We haven’t been that smooth, have we?" Douglas Cooper was somewhat reluctant to hear this. "We’ve been in danger a few times..."
Cheryl Suweton scoffed:
"The dangers you guys have encountered, truly speaking, for a treasure hunter, that’s... what’s your Chinese term... basic operation! Which senior treasure hunter hasn’t experienced a dozen or even dozens of life-threatening adventures?
And do you know how long a normal treasure hunt usually takes on average? It’s calculated in years! Look at your treasure hunts - none of them exceeded three months."
After hearing this, Douglas Cooper was speechless.
But that was indeed the truth, none of their treasure hunts had exceeded three months.
Elijah Hastings raised his hand:
"I’ve been with the boss for the longest time, I can confirm, none of boss’ treasure hunts have exceeded one month - there’s a reason he’s called the lucky boy."
"That’s also the reason I insisted on coming along. I feel that by following Sean, the process of finding treasure could be sped up. This is something every treasure hunter dreams of!"
"Wait, so I’m a hot commodity now?" Sean Knight was surprised. "If I announce this online, will I have countless fans?"
The group broke into laughter.
Cheryl Suweton said:
"You might have some fans, yes, but it is more likely that people will want to nab you to help them find treasure!"
"Okay, enough jokes. After eating, take some time to relax, as we need to get up early for work tomorrow," Sean Knight said.
As the initiator of the treasure hunt, Sean naturally had this authority. After dinner, everyone cleaned up, and went off to do their own things.
At nightfall, Sean Knight returned to his room. Since Old Master Andrew’s courtyard had many rooms available, every member in their team was able to have their own room.
Sean was planning on reading a novel, when his door was pushed open. An unexpected, yet imaginable person entered the room - not speaking a word, she nestled herself into Sean’s arms.
It’s incredible that she could endure till now - indeed, the royalty was different.
Sean was not extraordinary either, he had to bear with this.
There was no need to mention the romantic rendezvous that took place that night.
The next day, Sean Knight was refreshed. Although Cheryl Suweton was tired, she was beaming with satisfaction.
However, Douglas Cooper who lived next to Sean had dark bags under his eyes. He cast a resentful glance at the two of them and said:
"Boss, can you guys keep it down next time? It really affects others’ sleep. You don’t know, this old house... it doesn’t do well in terms of soundproofing!"
Cheryl Suweton’s face turned bright red immediately. She turned her head and gently punched Sean, naturally blaming him was the right thing to do.
Sean Knight said nonchalantly:
"Alright, I’ll try."
Being able to discuss this matter so openly, Sean really had some guts. Douglas Cooper had no alternative but to stop talking.
After breakfast, both sides continued with their plans.
By the time Sean and his team came back in the evening, Cheryl Suweton hadn’t returned yet.
But they could understand, the place they planned to go to today was farther away, and they also had to backtrack, so obviously it wasn’t the same as yesterday.
Old Master Andrew was in the courtyard, holding a wine bottle. When he saw them returning, he held up the bottle, signaling them.
"Thanks, but we will not drink anymore." Sean Knight waved his hand with a smile.
"Young man, drinking is beneficial to your health." Old Master Andrew took a big drink and exaggeratedly said, "Don’t reject alcohol, for us, it’s the best friend!"
Bullshit, the best friend. Sean shook his head, again refusing. However, he entered the house and when he came out, he had a few small dishes and several cans of meat.
He opened each can, pouring the contents into the small dishes and placed them in front of Old Master Andrew.
"Try some Chinese gourmet canned food."
Old Master Andrew was obviously curious about this and took a bite with his fork.
"The taste is not bad!"
Delicious food is often a universal comfort, especially when accompanied by wine.
"Young people, you’re on a treasure hunt, aren’t you?" Old Master Andrew, munching on food and drinking his wine, chatted with Sean Knight and his companions.
"The majority of outsiders that visit Owl Town every year are also here for treasure hunting. Some of them stick around like you guys, searching nearby, while others pass through on their way to other places."
It was then that Sean Knight realized that this old man knew everything without uttering a single word!
"So, have you discovered anything yet?" Andrew gobbled down more wine, wiped his big beard clean, and asked, "I suppose you haven’t, right?"
He didn’t wait for Sean to reply, instead, he was lost in his own stories:
"Those fellas at Mountain Mine came by for the third time. But they always left empty-handed..."
"The group that arrived last year was pretty audacious! They had the audacity to dig up the tomb on the Small Hill by the Lakeside— however, they got it all wrong. Not only did they not find any treasure, but they also got arrested. I heard they’re still locked up."
"Then there were those who went diving in the lake, thinking maybe they might find some submerged treasure. But all they found was an old fishing boat from centuries ago. Who would hide treasure in a floating lake?"
"Oh, and the river, haha...apparently, some tried to find treasure in the river, but instead, they caught a bunch of fish..."
...
While the elderly man was chattering away, he leaned back in his chair and dozed with a wine bottle clutched tightly in his hands.
Elijah Hastings murmured discontentedly:
"Boss, we’ve been duped by the royals. This news... hasn’t been kept confidential at all!"
Sean was also somewhat infuriated.
However, anger wouldn’t solve anything. He pondered for a moment and reaasured:
"Firstly, we need to confirm that there is a treasure. Secondly, the fact that the treasure hasn’t been discovered yet means we still stand a chance."
There was something else that Sean didn’t mention.
If the treasure were to be found in Sweden, according to international convention, surely Sweden would lay claim to it—any country would do the same.
But now, since the clue was provided by the royals, the likelihood was that if Sean and his team were to find the treasure, Sweden might heavily tax them, yet let them keep the treasure.
Such tacit consent can’t be openly acknowledged.
Perhaps this is the unwritten rule.
Thinking of these things, Sean felt somewhat relieved.
Cheryl Suweton and the others arrived when night had already fallen.
Their weary appearance spoke of the day’s toil.
With food prepared by Sean and Elijah, everyone gathered around the table, eating and chatting boisterously.
"No news. We didn’t find anything in the places we went to, which indirectly confirms that the highest likelihood is that the treasure is near Owl Town."
Cheryl appeared quite excited as she spoke.
Elijah didn’t hesitate to douse her enthusiasm with cold, harsh truth:
"Apparently, a lot of treasure hunters have visited this town over the years. Including the team in the Mountain Mine, they’re not newcomers, they have contracted the mine for the third time. But in the end, none of them found anything."
"Really?" Cheryl’s enthusiasm fizzled out at once. She stuffed a piece of bread into her mouth, but after thinking for a bit, she said, "Since they didn’t find the treasure, that means we still stand a chance, right?"
She looked at Sean as she asked this.
Sean smiled and reassured them:
"We do stand a chance. Tomorrow, let’s split up and search."
He gestured with his hands: "We shall search in this direction, and you take the opposite direction. In the end, we’ll meet up and compare notes. Don’t ignore anything that remotely feels suspicious."
"Great, great." Cheryl nodded enthusiastically.
That night, Cheryl came to Sean’s room once again.
She didn’t say a word, but Sean knew that the weight of the mission was taking a toll on the girl.
"Don’t worry, we will find it." Sean comforted her, "I’m the lucky boy, mark my words. As long as there’s a treasure, I’ll see through to it..."
"Okay, okay, you’re the greatest..."
Cheryl did indeed need some comforting. As soon as Sean said this, her face brightened up.
The night, now, felt more colorful.
