Chapter 233: Chapter 211: The Thrilling Return
On their way back, although the path was somewhat chaotic, Septimius mostly remembered the general direction, and Sean had a rough map in his mind. Therefore, the journey back was much lighter for the group of them.
The only problem was that they had no more supplies to spare. Although Sean had some, he couldn’t bring them out.
Thankfully, there was still some left in their backpacks, at least there were still some firearms.
With Elijah, Lincoln, and Septimius, they at least didn’t lack food.
"Mila, this is really delicious, you should give it a try." Under a big tree, Hans patiently tried to persuade Mila.
Mila nearly threw up looking at the stuff on the clean leaf in Hans’s hand, didn’t dare to even look at it, and turned her head away, saying as she walked:
"I’ll just have some fruit and dried fish. You guys can eat... this stuff."
Seeing Mila’s unwillingness, Hans regretfully ate the stuff on the leaf and even licked his lips, making it look very tasty.
That thing was bee pupae.
Septimius became the main food gatherer on the way back. He hadn’t really played a role on their way into the jungle, nor had he seemed keen to contribute.
But on their way back, Septimius became very engaged, picking fruits, hunting, digging for edible plant tubers, and even climbing high trees to get beehive honey.
This amazed the others!
What Hans held in his hand was bee pupae taken from the beehive, which was then roasted and tasted quite nice.
Sean, Elijah, and Lincoln all tasted a little, while Hans, either out of spite or genuinely recovering from his trauma, was more extroverted lately - eating, drinking, sleeping well, and talking more than usual.
"Boss, do you think Septimius really considers you as that priest, so that’s why he’s so enthusiastic with us on this return trip?" Elijah asked in a low voice while chewing on the beehive.
"I don’t know." Sean also had that suspicion, but he didn’t say it. After all, on their way back, Septimius never bowed to him again, but whenever he got food, he gave the best part to him.
With Septimius around, the pressure on Elijah and Lincoln had greatly lightened.
Even though they could hunt when they went out, their options were limited.
There weren’t many edible and delicious game species in the South American Jungle. Just like Sean, Elijah and Lincoln couldn’t bring themselves to eat monkeys either.
With Septimius around, their daily meal plans became much more diverse.
The way back was much more relaxed, without having to go through the man-eating flower’s territory or avoid any marshlands, making their return faster than their journey in.
After several days, they arrived at the wild pier. As Hans walked and said;
"I wonder if the boat is here yet..."
Just as his words fell, someone appeared from the other side - it was the short boat owner.
Hans was delighted to see him, and after chatting for a while, they all boarded the boat.
The boat owner was curious when he saw just a few people and asked a few questions. Upon learning that everyone else was gone, his expression became somewhat complicated.
The return journey was downstream, so the speed was much faster, and the time was cut in half.
When they flew back to New York and stepped on solid ground, Sean sighed at the thought of that old saying that things change and people change.
Gold and gemstones were handed over to Hans, who would find a channel to transport them back without Sean being involved.
As for whether Hans would deceive them, Sean never thought about it. To put it bluntly, he had already gotten the lion’s share; even if Hans took everything else, he didn’t care.
Returning to the villa, Kathy saw Sean and said:
"You’ve gotten darker and thinner. Mr. Knight, go take a shower first, and I’ll call someone to come and cut your hair and shave."
Sean was compliant, taking a brisk shower. Although modern life began the moment they left the jungle and arrived in the Brazilian city, it was only when they returned to the villa that Sean truly relaxed.
He didn’t fall asleep in the bathtub like many stories, but after getting his hair cut, face shaved, and eating a Chinese meal made from organic vegetables and fruits picked from their farm, he went straight to sleep.
After waking up, Sean felt his energy had returned. He checked the time and was startled to find that he had slept for almost 14-15 hours, and it was already the second day’s morning.
However, it made sense since the journey, although not too long, was full of thrilling experiences, and they were almost killed several times.
Such experiences, although not too damaging to the body, wore down their spirits quite a bit.
Even with the energy from the Crystal Skull, the images left by the Mayan priest’s gemstone consumed a lot of energy.
Fortunately, being young and with Sky Eye’s ability to absorb energy, one good sleep was enough to recover almost completely.
After breakfast, Sean went to find Joanna.
It happened to be a weekend. When Joanna received Sean’s phone call, she was overjoyed.
"You’re back? Great! I’m shopping in the city..."
Sean eagerly replied, "Tell me where you are, I’ll come pick you up!"
He drove to the shopping center where Joanna was, and from a distance, he saw his girlfriend in a T-shirt and jeans.
What surprised and angered him, though, were the two white youths trying to flirt with Joanna - he guessed as much because Joanna ignored them, while they kept talking annoyingly like flies.
