Chapter 213: Chapter 201: All Ruthless People!
As soon as Lincoln ran off, danger rose instantly around Elijah!
It was manageable for two people to fend off the swarming man-eating flowers, but with Lincoln gone, Elijah reacted a little slower and almost had his head blown off by a huge man-eating flower!
"Snap!"
Sean chopped off the man-eating flower just before it could bite Elijah!
"You take the left, and I’ll take the right!" He shouted, he and Elijah each wielding a machete and with Sky Eye activated, charged to slash the man-eating flowers!
At first, Elijah was worried that Sean wouldn’t be able to handle it, but after watching for a bit, he realized that though his boss’s methods were unpolished, every cut was clean, and he was much more efficient than Elijah himself!
With that concern gone, Elijah also gave his all, and the two moved swiftly. just about exhausting their strength, they finally burst out of the man-eating flower’s territory!
Although Lincoln, Jason, and the others were bitten by the man-eating flowers too, they managed to escape unscathed.
But everyone was wounded, even the beautiful Mila had a palm-sized wound on her face bitten by a man-eating flower, oozing green blood. It was not only disfiguring, but it was also poisoning her.
Only Sean and his two friends escaped without injury.
Although Sean still had energy, he didn’t want to move.
Elijah took a breath and stood up, saying:
"I’ll check out the surroundings."
Having arrived at this strange place, they now understood the countless dangers lurking in the jungle. There was no telling what lay ahead beyond the man-eating flower territory.
Lincoln went to help Hans and the others with their wounds - although they didn’t know if the detoxification medicine they carried was suitable, it was better to apply it to the wound and bandage it up than to do nothing at all.
Hans looked disheartened, full of regret inside.
When he arrived the first time, the man-eating flower patch wasn’t that big. It shouldn’t have been problematic to bypass it with some effort. But he never expected it to be so massive this time!
He was hurt not only himself but also others.
Of course, Hans only regretted not anticipating this issue; as for the others’ injuries, he didn’t care much.
He’d paid good money, after all!
Seeing the unscathed Sean and Elijah, Hans felt jealous.
Youth has its advantages!
Elijah returned from his inspection with a bird larger than a turkey, telling Sean,
"Boss, there’s no marshland or man-eating flowers nearby; it’s relatively safe."
And then started preparing their meal.
Lincoln, who was finishing bandaging up the others, also came to help.
Since they were temporarily safe, they cooked a pot of porridge to strengthen those who were injured. Meanwhile, the three who weren’t injured had a more substantial meal to replenish their energy.
Guide Septimius Coleman and the tribal warrior weren’t injured either, but they were somewhat skeptical of the food Elijah and the others had prepared and only ate a bit.
After the meal, everyone felt better. Hans took the initiative to speak:
"We’ll move farther away. Jason, you take a group and set up an ambush here! If Doncaster Foster and his people chase us, show no mercy!"
Sean realized that Hans was taking out his anger on Doncaster.
It was because Doncaster and his people followed them that Hans ventured into the dangerous area, resulting in the losses they experienced.
Now outside the law, Hans didn’t want to be followed by potential threats, so he decided to deal with them first.
Hans glanced at Sean while he spoke, and Sean pretended not to understand.
He knew Hans wanted to assign Elijah and Lincoln to ambush, but Sean remained silent.
Elijah whispered,
"Boss, let me do it, and have Lincoln protect you. If they charge at us, we can’t handle them well."
Thinking about it, Sean agreed,
"Alright, just be careful..."
Before he could finish, Lincoln interjected,
"Boss, let me go! Elijah knows you better; he’ll protect you better."
With Lincoln’s suggestion, Sean had no objections.
Lincoln immediately grabbed a gun from his backpack, and Elijah handed his own over. Sean waived them off, saying,
"I have some bullets here; you should take them too."
A firearm would be more suitable for an ambush.
Jason and the others set up an ambush close to the man-eating flowers alongside Lincoln and the others.
Sean then told Hans,
"Mr. Hans, let’s move back a little farther. If stray bullets come our way, it won’t be safe here either."
Hans readily agreed and moved back with Sean.
Once they reached a flat spot surrounded by several large trees, everyone could finally breathe a sigh of relief and rest for a bit.
Leaning on his backpack, Sean pulled out a package of beef jerky and started reading a book while chewing.
This book mainly talked about the creatures of the Amazon Jungle, and there was no mention of the vast man-eating flower territories they had just been through.
It was clear that the area they had traversed must be uncharted territory.
Unexpectedly, Mila came over. Her wound had been bandaged, but the bleeding didn’t seem to have stopped entirely.
The poison from the man-eating flowers wasn’t fatal but wasn’t easy to remove either. Mila’s face was pale, and the blood dripping from her bandaged wound still had a faint green hue.
"I never thought...",Milasaid, her voice hoarse, "...we’d end up in this situation."
Looking at the disfigured face of the beautiful girl, Sean couldn’t help but sympathize and tried to console her:
"Once we get out of here, find a good plastic surgery hospital, and they should be able to treat your face without leaving a scar."
Sean wasn’t sure if modern medicine could achieve this level, but comforting words should always lean towards optimism.
Mila shook her head and said:
