Chapter 163: Chapter 162: Endless Issues

After dinner, they returned to the villa, and Sean Knight went to the gun chamber to look at the guns there.

He only recognized the M24, which was the same as the one he had bought, and an older model that seemed to be produced in the Soviet Union and duplicated in China. Sean didn’t know the specific name.

Sean thought for a moment and didn’t take a gun. He called Jason Caldwell and asked him to bring Elijah Hastings to his villa the next day.

When Jason and Elijah arrived the next day, Sean was having breakfast. He asked Kathy Lewis to prepare tableware for the two of them.

Although Elijah had some understanding of Sean, he was still surprised to see his living standard.

This boss of his is quite wealthy!

Sean saw what Elijah was thinking and said with a smile:

"A few months ago, I was almost the same as you. Not exactly penniless, but it was pretty close. Most of what I have now came from my own hard work."

Elijah certainly did not believe it.

Jason, his mouth full of food, ate while swearing:

"I can vouch for it! It’s true! When I first met Bosuns Evans, he was driving a second-hand car! He was living in a rented container house at first, and now he’s living in a villa!"

Swallowing the food in his mouth, Jason said loudly:

"Bosuns, your present is my goal! Following you, I believe I will be able to live in a villa too!"

Kathy smiled as she watched them chat, and her mind flashed back to Jeremy Knight when he was young, having similar scenes like this.

However, times have changed, and people have changed.

After breakfast, Sean wiped his mouth and took Elijah to the gun chamber.

"Which gun do you feel comfortable with?"

Elijah looked it over, picked up the Soviet model, and said:

"SVD, I’ve used its modified 79-85 model before. Although its accuracy isn’t high, I’m used to it."

"Alright, get ready then. Jason will take you for gun calibration." Sean had bought guns and played with them when he was a kid, so he knew that rifles like this needed calibration for better accuracy.

Elijah nodded, put the gun in the gun bag, took some bullets, and went out with it on his back.

Sean instructed Jason, and the three of them left together.

Kathy watched their backs, a little worried.

After all, guns are deadly weapons, but she had no way to dissuade them.

Jason took Elijah to the suburbs for gun testing, where they could do it on Sean’s farmhouse grounds.

Sean himself went to the new villa.

Now that he had a lot of gold but couldn’t liquidate it, Sean felt that there were quite a few people watching him. Any movement would startle the snake in the grass.

He simply didn’t run around, but stayed at the villa, reading books and teasing Joanna Davis. Life was good.

Recently, Sean had been studying the crystal skull and the book from the abandoned mine pit.

He would definitely need to make a trip to Europe at some point.

Two days later, Sean received Elijah’s report.

"Peter Smith is dead. Shot in the chest, and another in the abdomen." Elijah’s tone didn’t change at all. "Right before I killed him, I found out that he had kidnapped several little girls..."

Elijah didn’t continue, but Sean could tell that Elijah had no resistance to this assassination.

"I’ll take you to the farmhouse to hide for a while," Sean said. "Wait for the wind to blow over before coming out."

"Okay." Elijah had no objections.

"The reward for this job is 100,000 dollars. Do you want cash or a check?"

"I don’t want the money. I owe you."

"Let’s keep things separate," Sean Knight said. "This is not an ordinary matter."

Elijah Hastings didn’t pretend either, and he didn’t expect to be doing something like this while working with the Americans.

Two days later, two police officers came to Sean Knight to find out what happened.

Sean acted appropriately surprised about Peter’s death.

"Although Mr. Smith’s attitude towards me wasn’t good, we got along fairly well," Sean recalled:

"It’s just that there seemed to be other people on that island at the time, so we came back. Mr. Smith had two subordinates killed at the time, and I suspect it was done by his enemies?"

The police didn’t know anything about this, but after exchanging glances and asking some routine questions, they hastily left.

Sean knew that the misdirection had worked, and no one should suspect him going forward.

A month later, Elijah returned from the farmhouse, and to Sean’s surprise, his English had improved quite a bit!

"Actually, I came here to kill someone too." In the study room, while chatting, Elijah revealed his real purpose for coming to this Beautiful Country.

"My family situation wasn’t bad. When I was in the army, my parents ran a factory, we were well off."

Elijah reminisced.

"Later, they said our land needed to be developed, so they asked us to relocate. The compensation was quite substantial. In any case, it was the government’s initiative, and my parents didn’t want to hold me back, so they agreed.

But they didn’t expect to be cheated. The land was handed over, the factory was demolished, and the money was embezzled. Not only my family but hundreds of other families as well..."

"Some people committed suicide, some jumped into rivers, some went crazy... My parents fell ill. The factory was gone, the money was gone, at first they kept it from me, but when I found out, I left the army early..."

Elijah’s voice was low, and Sean knew he was feeling very heavy-hearted.

"Some of the old workers from the factory were also cheated during their relocation, and witnessing those elderly people who should have been enjoying their twilight years picking vegetable leaves to eat, I felt so angry!"

"Did the person run away to this side?" Sean asked.

"Yes. After taking the money, he ran to this side." Elijah said resentfully:

"I couldn’t stand it! Although my parents are better now, after working hard their entire lives for nothing, I don’t want them to live their lives holding a grudge!

So, I used my discharge allowance to find a human trafficker to bring me here, but unfortunately..."

Sean knew what happened later.

"Did you get rid of him?" Sean asked.

"Yes. But I didn’t manage to get him to spit out the money. He said most of the money had gone to the officials; otherwise, the land acquisition wouldn’t have been so smooth... I didn’t believe him, but what could I do? In the end, I took him down, and I’m planning to send back whatever little money is left so we can save whoever we can."

Sean was saddened.

Although domestic development was rapid, such problems were happening in more than one place.

"Alright, just follow me and work hard from now on. Earn as much as possible. Those swindlers and corrupt criminals have taken money from our country to this place; let’s earn it back!"

Sean joked, and Elijah laughed as well.

Sean rented a standalone courtyard nearby for Elijah. He didn’t plan to have Elijah live with him.

Not used to it.

However, half a month later, an unexpected visitor came to Sean’s door, catching him off guard.

"Mr. Knight, my name is Penson Smith, I am Peter’s son." The visitor was a white man in his thirties, who had a very friendly attitude, utterly different from Peter.

"Hello," Sean was uncertain about Penson’s intentions, so he kept his distance.

"I’m sorry to intrude, but it’s about my father’s affairs." Penson said.

"I’m sorry for your loss," Sean said.

"I’ve come out of mourning already," Penson said calmly, "I’m here for something else, our family’s treasure."

Sean felt that trouble had come knocking again.
