Chapter 1492: Chapter 711: Concern Leads to Chaos—Blaming Oneself_2
By the end, monsters had grown to the size of adults, and their claws were sharp enough to injure Elijah Hastings and his team.
Their skin was so tough that Sean Knight’s gun in his hand could only inflict minor wounds on the monsters from a distance of over twenty meters.
At this point, apart from Sean Knight, the three others, including Elijah, had all sustained injuries.
Though the injuries were not serious, it was not over, and no one could guarantee that there wouldn’t be even more formidable creatures ahead.
Accepting the dagger from Douglas Cooper, Sean Knight sliced open the belly of a creature, to find it mostly filled with fish flesh, with a few chunks of human meat. He sighed deeply.
"Douglas is just amazing," joked Cooper, "I couldn’t even cut it open... Agh—"
In speaking, he agitated a wound on his face, sucking in a breath of cold air.
The skin of this beast was incredibly tough, and even the military thorn barely managed to slice it open.
Of course, after killing so many monsters and cutting open so many bellies, the military thorn inevitably had become dull.
But in the hands of Sean Knight, it was a different story. If it weren’t for the presence of the other three, he could’ve slit open the monster’s belly with his fingertips.
Elijah’s arm had been pierced by a monster’s claw, Lincoln Harrington was slightly better off, with a piece of skin scraped off his rib area.
"Maybe you guys should..." Sean Knight turned his head to look at the three of them.
"Boss, let’s go." Lincoln said while loading bullets, "Let’s finish the job so we can get out of here. I really can’t stand to stay in this place any longer."
Lincoln had cut him off, so Sean Knight didn’t try to persuade them further and took the lead, continuing onward.
This time, Elijah and the others didn’t rush to take the lead. Throughout their journey here, the three had come to realize that in this kind of environment, Sean Knight’s reaction and detection abilities were far superior to theirs.
It wasn’t because they had covered for him that Sean Knight had remained uninjured; his reflexes were just faster than theirs, and his resistance to hits was stronger.
He continued to move forward, and after walking forty or fifty meters without incident, he couldn’t help but slow down his pace.
The path ahead was growing darker, but Sean Knight could smell the presence of monsters.
With no creatures encountered at such a distance, was it possible that the next ones they would encounter would be the strongest?
He sensed that these monsters had some sort of hierarchy. The deeper they went, the more powerful and larger the monsters became, had better nutrition, and presumably held higher status.
Stopping, Sean Knight also filled his pistol with bullets, one by one.
He would need it for the fight later.
Elijah and the others’ wounds had already scabbed over. Sean glanced at them, came forward, and said,
"Come, let me heal you."
With that, he stretched out his hand and pressed it against Elijah’s arm.
After a moment, when Sean released his grip and moved to press on Lincoln’s rib area.
By the time he got to Douglas, Douglas merely tilted his head slightly.
They had all absorbed spiritual energy before. If there weren’t any more combat ahead, their wounds would probably completely heal within three days.
But right now, every bit of recovery counted.
When Sean Knight let go and turned to continue forward, the scar on Douglas’s face had fallen off, and he could feel that Sean’s touch had not only healed the wound but also infused him with a surge of spiritual energy, dispelling all the fatigue from his body.
Turning to look, Elijah and Lincoln also both appeared full of vigor.
Clearly, they had received the same treatment.
Douglas wanted to say something but ultimately didn’t.
Their boss was becoming more and more mysterious—or rather, his abilities were growing ever more formidable.
But following such a boss, they felt their lives were well lived!
They continued forward, passing through a long corridor, which aside from the occasional sound of water and some barely audible strange noises, was almost completely silent.
If it weren’t for the unique stench of the creatures, Sean Knight might have thought they had taken a wrong turn.
The increasing scent of blood made Sean’s expression grow darker.
All these creatures must die!
Ahead, in the view of Sky Eye, the corridor finally opened up into a larger space.
The area was quite vast, half the size of a football field as Sky Eye’s scan showed, with several stalactites stretching from the ceiling to the ground—giving off a faint glow.
Sean’s eyes fell on the far end of the space—where on the ground, two people were pinned under stones, with only parts of their bodies visible.
Cheryl Suweton was there!
He breathed a sigh of relief, his expression immediately easing—Sky Eye could barely make out that, for now, Cheryl and another woman were still alive.
However, just as he relaxed, a monster suddenly dropped from the ceiling and with a swift swipe tore an arm off the other woman before popping it into its mouth and began chewing loudly.
Sean reacted a second too late; by the time the gunshot rang out, the creature had already leapt onto the cave ceiling with the woman’s arm in its mouth, then started to rush towards Sean’s position, climbing upside down!
And on both sides, about ten more creatures surged out, each one looking ferociously toward Sean and his group!
"Can you see them? If not, turn on the high-powered flashlights!" Sean swiped his hand, and another pistol appeared in his grasp. He fired with both guns, attracting the creatures’ attention while quickly rushing towards Cheryl’s location.
He was fortunate that Sky Eye could see she was still alive; otherwise, he would have already been tempted to flip the place upside down!
But seeing the brutality of that creature, there was no way he could now put Cheryl in harm’s way.
