Chapter 1493: Chapter 711: Concern Leads to Chaos—Blaming Oneself_3
Sean Knight charged forward, and Elijah Hastings and the others immediately followed.
Most bullets hit the monster, but unless struck at a vital point, the creatures not only retreated, but they became even more ferocious and rushed forward!
Sean Knight was fearless, and had he not been afraid that Elijah Hastings and the others behind him would discover his secret, he might have already been holding a rocket launcher against this monster.
Even if it were formidable, it couldn’t withstand the force of the metal jet, right?
When the monster with an arm in its mouth approached Sean Knight, the arm had already been completely swallowed.
Blood dripped from the corner of its mouth, and in its gray-white eyes looking at Sean Knight, what he sensed was intense greed—it wanted to eat him!
Die!
Sean Knight continuously fired his gun, with bullets pouring into the monster’s mouth and eyes!
The creature let out a shriek, lost its grip on the rock, and fell from the cave ceiling!
"Douglas, why do I feel like the boss’s gun has an infinite supply of bullets?" Douglas Cooper quickly swapped magazines while Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington took turns shooting. "The bullets seem to be non-stop!"
"Do you still have the mind to think about that? Hurry up! I’ve run out of bullets too!" Elijah Hastings fired at the monster and thrust his military thorn directly into the belly of another creature, then kicked it away and sent it flying.
The movements of the three were slower, but they strove to break through and keep up with Sean Knight’s pace.
By now, Sean Knight had already reached Cheryl Suweton.
Cheryl Suweton was indeed still alive. But now, she was unconscious, her limbs pinned under stones, already showing signs of bruising.
If the pressure continued, her hands and feet could very likely necrose, and amputation would be the only option.
Sean Knight hurriedly removed the stones, took off his own shirt to cover Cheryl, then propped her up.
Elijah Hastings and his team protected him on the side, continuing to shoot at the monsters.
But the monsters kept multiplying, and the situation was very dangerous!
Sean Knight checked on Cheryl and found that aside from a bump on the back of her head, her body was overall in good condition apart from some abrasions, so he breathed a sigh of relief.
She must have been knocked unconscious, and the bloodstains he had seen were probably caused when the monster had dragged her on the ground.
With Cheryl safe, Sean Knight didn’t rush to treat her. With so many monsters outside, it would be problematic to wake her hastily.
Sean Knight gently placed Cheryl on the ground, reached to his waist, and two hand grenades appeared in his hand. He popped the fuses and directly threw the grenades into the approaching crowd of monsters!
The creatures had never seen hand grenades before and showed no fear of the iron balls, continuing to charge forward.
"Boom! Boom!"
Two explosions blasted, and the shockwave directly overturned seven or eight monsters.
"Here, use these for the ones further away!" Sean Knight passed two grenades to each of Elijah Hastings and his men. "Your precision is key now... Don’t throw immediately, remember what we learned in ’Sword’s Shine’? The effect is better when thrown mid-air!"
"We know this one well!" Douglas Cooper chuckled, releasing the grenade’s fuse pin, counting to two silently, then lobbed the grenade high, exploding amidst a group of monsters in the rear!
Four or five more creatures were blown apart, blood and flesh scattering, and the rest of the monsters immediately became hesitant.
Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington continued to fire at the monsters who had drawn close, as using hand grenades at close range could lead to friendly fire.
However, with no reinforcements, these few creatures eventually collapsed a few meters away from Elijah Hastings and his team.
There were still monsters in the space, but they only dared to hang upside down from the cave ceiling, no longer daring to come forward.
Unknown weapons made it clear to them that this was not an enemy they could match.
Sean Knight knew that these monsters had a certain level of intelligence, they were not all brutes.
At this moment, when the monsters didn’t approach, Sean finally had time to start channeling life energy into Cheryl Suweton, attempting to revive her.
After all, they needed to get through the narrow crevice, and if she didn’t wake up, it would be difficult to take her out without injury.
To Sean’s surprise, as soon as he started transferring life energy, the monsters that were still surrounding them suddenly swarmed over, launching a frenzied attack.
Clearly, life energy was an immense temptation for them!
"Shoot!" Douglas Cooper bellowed, "These creatures have gone mad!"
Sean soon realized that Cheryl hadn’t been eaten on the spot probably because she had life energy within her.
Could this be considered a blessing in disguise?
Sean stopped the transfer of life energy and also held his gun up, beginning to aim and shoot at the monsters.
These monsters, charging in, had entered the effective range of the pistol, and quickly seven or eight of them were shot dead.
Green viscous blood and the stench of raw flesh spread throughout the spatial realm.
The remaining seven or eight monsters had retreated.
But they did not leave.
Lincoln Harrington pretended to throw a Hand Grenade, and those monsters actually knew to flee!
A thought struck Sean, and he passed a few more magazines to Elijah Hastings and the others, then once again began to transfer life energy into Cheryl.
The few monsters once again charged in wildly!
This was exactly what Elijah and the others had hoped for. After a bout of shooting, the monsters were all slain, at the cost of Elijah and Douglas adding two new wounds to their bodies.
The last one that charged at them had injured the two of them.
That monster, rather than fleeing, aimed to pounce on Sean, having been hit by a dozen bullets from the three of them—if not for being hit in its vitals, that leap could have likely caused someone severe injury.
By now, as far as they could see, all the monsters had died.
Sean could then confidently continue to transfer life energy into Cheryl, saving her.
Cheryl opened her eyes, her body trembling, and when she saw that the person in front of her was Sean, she let out a scream and plunged into his arms, crying and laughing.
"Boss, this woman is dead," Lincoln Harrington whispered nearby.
Cheryl then withdrew from Sean’s arms, wiped away her tears, and with a sad look in her eyes, turned to the woman whose arm had been torn off beside her:
"Her name was Robie, she was one of my team members who came on this adventure with me, and she has a nine-year-old son..."
Sean was speechless.
There was no help for it; foreigners think differently from us. They live more freely than we do, but the cost is also higher.
"Let’s get out of here," Sean said, "This place is not safe."
The group immediately started to walk out.
Upon reaching the crevice, Sean led the way, followed closely by Cheryl. Elijah and the others covered the rear.
In a place they couldn’t see, at the end of this spatial realm, a monster slowly crawled out.
It was half the size of the previous monsters, with ash-gray eyes that were fixed on Sean and the others!
