Chapter 1488: Chapter 710 Found the Clothing Fragments
"If it had been an ordinary person facing this sudden attack, they would have likely lost their lives on the spot.
The long claws, with nails sharp as daggers, could easily slit a person’s throat in an instant; these two monsters clearly knew where the vital parts of their target prey were, and made no superfluous moves.
Unfortunately for them, they had now encountered the strongest human in the world; the four of them spared no bullets as the bullets pursued the two monsters, shooting at them.
These two monsters were naturally not impervious to knives and guns; as bullets pierced their bodies, piercing screams accompanied by the spray of green blood filled the air. The monsters were quite intelligent and knew they could not overpower their opponents; they turned to escape by climbing up the cave walls, but the crossfire from four pistols prevented their escape; before they could flee, they were riddled with bullets.
Watching the grey creatures fall from the ceiling, their bodies still twitching, Sean Knight sneered. After all, there were plenty of unsolved mysteries in the world, merely unknown to people or the public.
Like the videos that once circulated of zombies being besieged in certain places, or the videos similar to aliens coming from another place, and so on.
Elijah Hastings kicked the two grey-skinned monsters, flipping them over.
Their eyes were also grey and white, with no eyelids or pupils, seemingly blind, without vision.
However, it made sense that a creature living in such darkness would lack vision.
As for why they didn’t slip through the crack in the rock, Sean Knight was puzzled.
But what was strange was that these two creatures bled green blood, which was scant and very thick, quickly solidifying in these surroundings.
Their claws were thin and long, with slightly curved nails, truly very sharp, no different from daggers.
Their skin lacked fur, blood vessels weren’t apparent, had poor skin elasticity, but was very tough; Sean Knight squatted down and pulled at it, finding it comparable to cowhide, offering some protection.
Lincoln Harrington took out a military thorn, sliced open the belly of the creature, then stabbed its stomach sac, stirring inside with the dagger, and said with a grim face:
"They... have just eaten people."
The stomach sac emitted an unpleasant smell, and though Sean Knight did not squat down to look, he could see that the creature’s stomach indeed contained unchewed chunks of meat—human flesh, along with some fish.
Fish meat?
The monsters had no molars, only sharp teeth, like crocodiles they could bite but not chew—relying on a strong gastric function to digest food.
Although humanoid, they were no longer human.
Or should I say—cave dwellers?
"It’s not Cheryl Suweton," Sean Knight said as he used a knife to open the belly of another creature and looked inside, "It should be someone who was traveling with her."
"Shall we continue?"
"Continue," Lincoln Harrington replied as he reloaded his pistol, "These creatures... shouldn’t exist in this world."
Douglas Cooper had already reloaded his bullets, placing the military thorn in an easily accessible location, nodding in agreement.
The four of them continued to advance stealthily. Although the previous gunfire might have alerted other members of their kind, they turned off their flashlights and moved forward quietly.
The environment was extremely complex in the underground corridors; instead of solid cave walls, there were all kinds of large and small holes, the walls covered with stalactite-like formations of various sizes. At a glance, it was impossible to tell the depth or whether any monsters might be lurking inside.
Fortunately, Sean Knight’s Sky Eye was always active, a quick sweep could inform him of the movements around.
Thus, as they advanced, he remained silent when there was no movement.
"Watch out!"
Suddenly, seven or eight monsters from the distance rapidly crawled over hanging from the cave ceiling, clearly targeting Sean Knight and his team!
"Get ready, there’s seven or eight!" Sean Knight pointed ahead, "They’re coming at us from all directions..."
Although the creatures were hanging upside down, they moved swiftly. As soon as Sean Knight finished speaking and pointed his pistol forward, they appeared in their field of vision!
"Bang bang bang bang!"
Sean Knight fired first, two of the monsters were hit and fell to the ground, yet the rest charged fearlessly!
Elijah Hastings and the others fired rapidly, several monsters were hit one after another, the last one, smaller in size—whether female or a juvenile—turned and fled.
However, clearly, Elijah Hastings and the others had no intention of letting it go; rapid shooting made it impossible for the creature to cling to the ceiling any longer, and as it fell, Lincoln Harrington finished it off with another shot, resulting in it landing, twitching on the ground, and then lying still.
Sean Knight stepped forward, cutting open the belly of each monster, inside were fish, meat, and some aquatic grass, indicating they were omnivores.
No trace of Cheryl Suweton.
They were lucky after all.
"Boss, do you think we could sell one of these monster’s corpses for some money?"
"We could. But I reckon we’d have a lot of trouble to handle afterward." Sean Knight waved his hand dismissively, "We need to find the people first."
Continuing forward, they traveled a great distance without seeing any sign of more monsters—were they scared off, or were there just a few of them?
As they went, Sean Knight and his team reloaded their pistols, ensuring they were always ready to shoot at full capacity.
After all, if a swarm emerged, what good would it be to run out of bullets at a critical moment?
Finally, they reached a spacious underground space that resembled a great hall. Its ground was covered with many dried viscous residues and blood.
Sharp stone fragments were thrown about haphazardly, with some bones, fishbones, and the roots of marine plants that hadn’t been devoured scattered on the ground.
