Chapter 1398: Chapter 679: Good People are Truly Rewarded! _2
The scenery is almost all the same, and it’s terribly cold, after looking at such scenery for a while, it all starts to look the same.
Just like the locals from Ili Prefecture, Xinjiang. Looking at the plains—Zhaosu Prairie, Narat Prairie, Kanas Prairie, Tangbula Prairie, Kurdin Prairie...
They’re all quite similar, more or less. Mainly because the places locals can enter are often inaccessible to outsiders, so after seeing them enough, it all starts to look the same.
The scenery here is the same.
"Just keep going, we’ll find people after a bit more walking. Besides, we’re here to scope out the area, and this is part of the scoping," Sean Knight said, "Who knows, we might actually discover a new business opportunity."
"What kind of business opportunity?" Elijah Hastings asked over the walkie-talkie. Everyone had nothing to do, and there wasn’t much signal around, so all they could do was chat with each other.
"Hunting," Sean said with a laugh, "It’s nothing new. If we can really lease a large piece of this land, I plan to set up a hunting ground, specifically bringing people from the domestic market to hunt here.
Wild boars, deer, elk, wolves, anything can be hunted. The Emperor is far away in the mountains, as long as we take care of the necessary payments, I guess nobody will care much."
"That’s a good point!" Douglas Cooper, listening on the other end, lit up, "There are shooting ranges in China now. But that stuff, it’s nowhere near as satisfying as hunting live targets abroad!
Although it’s a bit cold, at least there are fewer restrictions than in Africa! Plus, it’s easier for us to handle guns here. We can then dispatch a group of team members to take care of security and guidance... and we’re all set!"
The others, hearing this, actually thought it was a good idea!
Even during the economic downturn, honestly speaking, the middle class and the ordinary common folk are the ones who feel it the most.
There are so many wealthy people whose lives aren’t greatly affected. Just like something I saw on a platform, during the economic downturn, a company called for its employees to accept pay cuts for increased efficiency, and the workers’ wages were significantly reduced.
Everyone thought this was the reality; to not lose their jobs, enduring it seemed like the only way.
But then, you hear a piece of news that the company’s chairman had his annual salary increased by 33 million...
Damn, seems like the call for pay cuts and increased efficiency was targeted at the ordinary employees!
Just like developed countries setting up carbon emission standards, aiming to limit carbon emissions in developing countries! Once their economy improves and it impacts them, they’ll toss those standards aside!
Strict with others, lenient with themselves!
So, hunting, a game specifically for the wealthy, might really be something worth trying!
"Of course, let’s get there first," Sean guessed everyone’s thoughts, "And then, just our people, if we can secure the lease, we’ll handle the permits locally.
With Peterof’s friends’ connections and the right favors, once the permits are sorted, our own folks can hunt first. If there indeed are a lot of game, we can start right away!"
With this idea out there, everyone got excited.
Hunting humans is no fun, but hunting game is much better.
Previously, when excavating battlefield relics in the town, some team members were in charge of perimeter security and ended up hunting some game as well, although chasing down a wild boar with a few people involved little technique.
The thought of organizing a boar hunt in a vast forest was thrilling!
As they were pondering, suddenly a "bang" of a gunshot was heard ahead, and the lead car stopped.
Sean, sitting in the second car, got out and saw two large men with big beards about twenty or thirty meters in front of the lead car, one holding a shotgun and the other pointing an automatic rifle directly at the convoy.
Highway robbery, huh!
Sean laughed.
Then the team members got out of the cars one by one, lifting their automatic weapons too.
The two previously smug individuals were instantly dumbstruck.
Had they stumbled into a hornet’s nest of guns?
Seeing the array of automatic rifles, the two instantly cowered—throwing down their guns, they raised their hands.
Two team members walked over, and without any courtesy, knocked the men to the ground, beginning to search them.
Mobile phones, call watches, wallets—
But not much money.
The team members searched nearby and found a few cars and some luggage, but no human bodies.
Viola was there too, continuing her role as a translator.
"They say they only rob for money and supplies, and don’t kill people," Viola reported, "They’ve never killed anyone. The main reason is that they’ve been here too long with hardly any supplies, and they can’t leave this place, so..."
Alright, looks like they were driven by poverty.
Sean could tell these two really weren’t the murdering type, but they had indeed robbed quite a few people.
"Boss, what do we do?" Lincoln Harrington came over to ask.
"Leave them some supplies, mainly food. See if they have anything useful on them, and we’ll take that," Sean, adhering to the principle of fair exchange, said, "We won’t take undue advantage of them, but they have to pay for their lives."
These two indeed had some nice valuables, all looted from others. A variety of outdoor equipment, much of it branded, was promptly confiscated by the team members.
In the end, they left them with a couple of guns and a pile of food.
With just that, the two were full of gratitude.
The convoy continued to advance, with the team members inspecting the equipment with curiosity—it was enough for at least a dozen people.
"Seems these two have robbed quite a few people," Lincoln sighed, "Highway robbers, truly!"
The convoy traveled for several days and finally passed through a small town where they replenished some items, filled up on fuel, made preparations, and after resting for a day, they were back on the road.
