Chapter 1396: Chapter 678: There Are Always People Who Are Blinded by Money_3
Sean Knight frowned, and after a short while, a team member came over to report:
"A woman came out from the forest and fired at our members guarding the other women, then she was killed!"
"Where did that woman come from?" Lincoln Harrington asked, frowning.
The team member shook his head.
Sean Knight suddenly spoke up:
"It’s possible that after all those women got off the car, this woman went into the forest—maybe for an ambush or something else. It’s just that there were too many women at the time, and we didn’t notice her."
The others thought about it and then realized in enlightenment—that was the most likely possibility.
"Boss, what do we do?" Lincoln Harrington pointed at the drone screen.
The reactions of the two groups now were very interesting. One group scattered, running all over the forest, likely out of fear.
The other group, for some reason, got excited when they heard the gunshots and sped up, already charging towards the encirclement with their guns raised.
"Fire away!" Sean Knight didn’t hesitate at all, "Tell our guys, anyone trying to get into the encirclement, turn them into dumplings! Don’t wait for the others, chase them out— the rest is up to their cooperation. Hit them hard!"
"Got it!"
With Sean Knight’s words, Lincoln Harrington knew how to relay the message to the other side.
Sean Knight felt a bit of regret; he should have joined the pursuit earlier. Joining an ambush would have been so thrilling!
However, watching these people get eliminated one by one was also quite satisfying.
Then the gunshots around the perimeter started popping like firecrackers.
The drone flying in the sky sent back video footage showing the attackers who had entered the encirclement falling one after another, while the others fled in panic. Yet, they barely ran a few steps before being taken down.
As for the scattered escapees, the team members were now pursuing them. However, these guys were slippery in the forest, taking advantage of their familiarity with the terrain, darting around like rabbits, making the chase troublesome.
In just a short time, only two or three stubborn stragglers were left resisting within the ambush circle, while about seven or eight were frantically running in the scatters, not firing back at all, just desperately trying to escape.
Lincoln Harrington was continuously giving precise commands as he watched the drone, making the pursuit seem effortless.
Watching the video, Sean Knight thought about how the war footage he’d seen on his mobile phone from Russia and Ukraine was similar. The drone would lock onto where the enemy warriors were, and a suicide drone would dive in and detonate.
On the battlefield, there’s no sympathy for the innocent, male or female; the blasts treated everyone equally.
That’s why people often say that we don’t live in a peaceful world, just in a peaceful country.
Watching the enemies being eliminated one by one, Sean Knight sighed in relief. So far, not a single one of his own men had been injured; that was quite lucky indeed.
Viola also watched from the side, not even daring to breathe too loudly.
Although Russia and Ukraine were at war, being far away in China, she could never be involved. How could she know the cruelty of war?
Now, seeing those people on the screen being knocked down one by one, and with gunshots sounding so close by, she truly felt the intensity of the situation.
The ambush lasted less than 30 minutes, whereas the pursuit lasted nearly one hour before the team members gradually returned.
They came back carrying spoils of war—Sean Knight swept his gaze over them and saw that they were mostly older weapons and equipment, not nearly as good as what he had supplied to his team members.
When it came time to collect the seized goods, a considerable amount of cash was piled up, including Rubles, US Dollars, and even RMB.
Clearly, neither of these groups was a regular army; they likely belonged to the sort that would catch hares by setting snares.
Having heard that Sean Knight’s group had raided a warehouse and made some money, they thought to come over. First, they planned to use women to distract the men and then, in a pincer movement, take them down.
These people had no good intentions, so the team members left no survivors. Foraging outside was business at the muzzle of a gun, and with intent to kill, one couldn’t blame others for not offering a way out.
The bodies were not taken back to the campground but were left dumped in the forest.
"Alright, Douglas, call Sergei and tell him to inform Mayor Petrov about what happened here," Sean said to Douglas Cooper:
"The rest is up to him to deal with."
Based on what Sean presently knew about Mayor Petrov, having provided so many benefits for the Small Town, if he could not handle even this minor issue, then there wouldn’t be much left to discuss.
As expected, within an hour, Mayor Petrov arrived with Sergei and several dozen townsfolk, driving a tractor along.
Upon seeing Sean Knight, Mayor Petrov was extremely agitated and voiced loudly,
"Sean, I’m terribly sorry! I never thought those bastards would dare to plot against you! Tonight, I will drive those guys out of the Small Town and not let them dig around here anymore! The shops in the town will never sell to them again!"
Mayor Petrov’s promise was quite significant, and after hearing Sergei’s translation, Sean quickly shook his head:
"No need, no need. Mayor, I’m telling you this to let you know that these people attacked by surprise, and we were defending ourselves. I don’t want us to be accused of murdering them. Lev was also involved in this incident, as were a few women armed with weapons. Take them back with you, and you can decide how to handle it."
Team members then brought out Lev, his face bruised and battered.
Seeing Old Lev, Mayor Petrov was seething with fury. He strode forward and kicked him to the ground before anyone could react and fired two shots into his knees!
"Ah—"
Lev screamed in agony as he writhed on the ground.
Sean was quite surprised by this scene.
This Mayor Petrov was ruthless indeed!
He wasn’t afraid of being accused of abusing his power!
With those two shots, the rest of Lev’s life would undoubtedly be spent in a wheelchair.
Though he didn’t have that many years left anyway.
Mayor Petrov also brought plenty of provisions for Sean and his team, which was an apology for the attack.
Sean then showed him the remaining items in the warehouse.
From the interior of the cave, it was evident that there were still many items submerged in the muddy water.
In recent days, Mayor Petrov had come to understand that, although these items looked old and worn, they were quite valuable in the eyes of some.
Mayor Petrov was grateful to Sean and after some thought, he said,
"Sean, I know you’re wealthy. The things in our little town wouldn’t interest you. But since you’ve helped us so much, I must show my appreciation. How about this—I’ll introduce you to one of my comrades-in-arms. He has some influence now and might be able to supply you with some useful items—perhaps only you can truly harness the potential of those things!"
Listening to Sergei’s translation, Sean couldn’t help but smile.
This, he was indeed interested in!
