Chapter 1287: Chapter 642: Got Ahead of Me? _2
The three-story building, fashioned from quaint blue brick, nearly had its courtyard covered in climbing ivy and other greenery.
Accompanied by the real estate agent, Sean Knight entered the small building and found that the spatial realm inside was indeed lacking.
It was somewhat cramped, whether it was the staircase or the corners, or the bedrooms inside.
Seeing this, Sean Knight changed his mind and turned his head to ask the pretty intermediary, Miss Bell:
"Do you have any well-decorated, brand new, modern villas?"
Ever since he had money, Sean Knight realized his true likes—he liked being down-to-earth.
Living in a villa or a small building in a rural area was best.
Miss Bell’s name was Sophia Rose, around 26 or 27 years old, a typical white-collar worker. Listening to Sean Knight’s request, she immediately flipped through documents in her mind and then said:
"Yes, not far from here, there is a villa. It was built two years ago by a very famous stock trader who had been renovating it all along, and it was just finished at the beginning of this year.
He planned to move in by mid-year, but due to a misjudgment, he personally got involved in a large investment failure in the stock market, employed too much leverage, and ended up losing all his assets.
The villa is now listed for sale, but the price is a bit high, forty-four million and eight hundred thousand."
"Let’s take a look," Sean Knight nodded. "Are all the procedures complete?"
"All procedures are in place," Sophia Rose said with a smile.
The man before them had given them quite a scare when he planned to buy the villa.
Fortunately, Sean Knight had also let them verify his finances, and the one he had originally set his sights on was this century-old villa.
Unfortunately, despite its renown, it was all show and no substance.
When the private car delivered Sean Knight to the villa Sophia Rose had mentioned, there were people already viewing it.
"He’s listed it with us and with other agencies," Sophia Rose explained softly.
The seller was a young man around 28 years old; the buyers were a family of three who had come to see the house.
Sean Knight glanced at them and then focused on inspecting the rooms.
He had just seen the spacious courtyard of the villa, liked the greenery of the Little District, and found the surrounding traffic quite convenient.
He observed the room decorations, a rather simple style, indeed showing no signs of habitation.
While he was looking around, Sophia Rose had already gone over to communicate Sean Knight’s intentions to the seller.
The seller glanced at Sean Knight but didn’t come over, continuing to negotiate with the family of three.
Sean Knight could hear clearly that the main issue was the price.
The buyers wanted to push the price down to forty million, mainly because of the economic downturn.
The seller was unwilling, stating that this was already the lowest price— with the average house price in the area costing over 110,000, he had already dropped his price to 100,000, which meant he was selling at a loss—after all, he had bought the empty house for forty-seven million and had put in nearly a million in renovations.
But the buyers seemed to know that the seller was in desperate need of money, so they kept pressing the price down, claiming that the house definitely wouldn’t sell unless it was at that price.
Sean Knight didn’t speak up; it’s not good manners to interrupt a negotiation.
Both buyer and seller were at a standoff.
The seller, unable to contain his frustration, walked over to Sean Knight.
When the seller approached, Sean Knight asked:
"Are you finished negotiating with them?"
He did not wish to gain a reputation for cutting in.
It was unethical.
"We couldn’t agree," the seller, still stricken with youthful vigor, was likely also because he couldn’t bear to sell the house he had poured his heart into for a low price.
Sean Knight glanced at the family of three and said:
"If you’re done negotiating, then I’ll make my offer."
The family of three immediately became anxious, Sean Knight’s intent seemed clear that he was unlikely to make a lower offer. The middle-aged man immediately came over, saying as he walked:
"We haven’t reached a deal yet! We can still raise our offer..."
As he mentioned raising the offer, the seller hesitated.
Sean Knight tilted his head, signaling that they could continue negotiating; he could wait.
The family of three, clearly a couple with their son who was about twenty-three or twenty-four, Sean Knight guessed, likely wanted to buy a wedding room.
Sean Knight’s manner immediately brought the seller close to tears; such an understanding buyer made it hard for him to hold back.
"No more negotiating; it’s pointless. Even if you raise the price, it’ll probably just be by thirty or fifty thousand. We’re done here. You can go."
The seller’s words had indeed confirmed the middle-aged man’s thoughts, causing him to halt.
"Alright then, I’ll make my offer," Sean Knight said. "Forty-four million and eight hundred thousand. How about that?"
The seller was stunned for a moment, then his face flushed with excitement as he shouted two words:
"Deal!"
The family of three, who had just been somewhat reluctant, thinking to compete with Sean Knight, were taken aback by the price he offered.
Sean Knight had no intention of offending them; after seeing that century-old house and now this villa, he genuinely liked it.
Though he might not stay often if he bought it, some things are better resolved with one’s own property.
The family of three, realizing they couldn’t buy it, had no choice but to leave disgruntled.
As they were leaving and looking back at the bright and clean villa, they instantly regretted it.
Perhaps that’s what everyone feels when something they covet is bought by someone else.
With Sophia Rose there, the procedures went very quickly.
They signed the contract, transferred the money, and left everything else wholly in the care of the agency.
Now, the house belonged to Sean Knight.
Once everyone had left, Sean Knight went to the basement and retrieved from In Space the gold he had acquired from the war zone.
These things couldn’t be used anywhere else—they were too easily traceable.
After all, many financial institutions abroad were controlled by those people.
