Chapter 1278: Chapter 639 Became a Hot Commodity_2
According to Lincoln Harrington, if his girlfriend is career-focused, he should support her.
Sean Knight strongly agreed, as Lana Brown was also a career-focused woman.
However, the fact that this career-focused woman felt it was a matter of great importance, requiring his personal attention, indeed signified its seriousness.
Looking down at Big Island from the airplane, Sean Knight had felt that Big Island had truly undergone a transformation.
First off, there were many more buildings. It wasn’t that villas had sprouted everywhere, but at least one-fourth of the originally open area had been developed into courtyard villas.
Moreover, several areas had been directly planned as high-rise residential districts.
This really surprised Sean Knight.
Lana Brown picked up Sean Knight at the airport, and the two got into a domestic energy sedan. Sean Knight asked:
"When did you start thinking about getting into real estate?"
"About half a year ago," Lana Brown said happily as Sean Knight noticed the changes. "What do you think? Big changes, right?"
As she spoke, she wrapped her arm around Sean’s, rested her head on his shoulder, and sighed contentedly:
"It’s so nice to have a man’s shoulder to lean on!"
"Is it a lot of pressure?" Sean Knight asked. "If it’s too much, we could cancel or suspend some of the deals. We don’t have to hurt our health and mood for money."
"That’s not necessary," Lana Brown tightened her embrace and said, laughing, "Every time I see the changes on the island, imagining your surprise and happiness when you come to see it, I don’t feel any pressure at all."
Without waiting for Sean Knight to ask further, she continued:
"At that time, a group of people came wanting to buy houses here. But they weren’t interested in the previous small buildings; they wanted villas. Later, people came every day asking if they could buy a house to live here long-term.
Then I got in touch with domestic construction companies, including those from Xinjiang, and started planning to build houses. I didn’t expect that once I started, it wouldn’t stop."
Sean Knight knew that domestic real estate companies would acquire land and then hire engineering teams to build. Some real estate companies had their own engineering companies, but most of them didn’t have their own construction teams.
It was similar to many domestic decorating companies. They promise the moon when doing the job, but in reality, after receiving the orders from customers, they usually contact subcontractors or even small engineering teams in the Little District, arranging for them to do the construction.
Oftentimes, a subcontractor is the consistent choice for four or five decorating companies.
Now, on Big Island, Lana Brown was that real estate developer. Since Sean Knight had given her management of the entire island, there was no issue with land costs.
So she built. Although somewhat distant from the mainland, the costs were low, and even if she sold the properties at the price of ones in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or even Sanya, it would turn a handsome profit several times over.
"Hasn’t any real estate company approached you for a partnership?" Sean Knight was curious.
"Yes," Lana Brown replied. "Not just one, several, all among the top twenty leading enterprises in the country, but I turned them all down. When I can make money on my own, why let them skim a layer off the top?"
"Ha, that’s pretty clear-headed," Sean Knight chuckled and stroked her hair. "What’s the issue this time?"
"Government officials came looking," Lana Brown said. "They specifically asked for you, saying I don’t have the final say in the matter."
As she spoke, Lana Brown added pensively:
"See? Despite working myself to death thinking at least my word would count for something, in the eyes of those officials, my word is not as good as that of my man, who hasn’t shown his face for three months. Sigh... heartbroken..."
With that, she made a show of wiping away fake tears.
"Hahaha," Sean Knight laughed. "It seems like it must be something good. If it wasn’t, they would have come straight to you."
"So, I’m just here to deal with the bad things, huh?" Lana Brown suddenly lost her cheer and punched Sean Knight playfully twice with her little fist, then curiously asked, "How can you be so sure?"
"Because they came straight to me," Sean Knight guessed, "Think about it. These days, everyone knows that the island is nominally Brother Chen’s, but in fact, it’s mine, and you are the actual manager, the frontline person.
If it’s something bad, approaching you directly would do. That way, if they can’t strike a deal with you, there’s still room for me to make a final decision if I step in.
But if it’s bad news coming straight to me, it’s akin to declaring war, ready to start a fight directly. Government officers tend to leave some leeway, not burn bridges entirely."
"And what if they do decide to burn bridges?" Lana Brown mostly believed Sean Knight’s judgment, but she still liked to ask just one more question. It wasn’t about being argumentative; she just enjoyed a verbal spar with Sean Knight.
Because it was so rare.
"Unless they plan to take back the island and completely offend me," Sean Knight said with a smile. "Or perhaps the decision was made by an idiot."
"Okay, I believe you," Lana Brown said, laughing. "What are we going to have later? The seafood here is still pretty good. This morning I had a fishing boat save some large, rare catches specifically."
"Now that I’m in your domain, you prepare," Sean Knight said gently pinching her shoulder and whispering in her ear:
"As long as I can have you, everything else doesn’t matter..."
