Chapter 1229: Chapter 623 This move is well played!

"Leave two people to watch the car, the rest come with me," Sean Knight spoke up.

He planned to search for the man named Maramart while looking for an opportunity to crack open a hole in the Great Pyramid hidden underneath the sand to see what was really inside.

However, they had just taken out their tools when three men carrying guns approached them.

"Hand over the money!" The three men, sporting big beards and wearing leather jackets, were clearly up to no good. The one in the lead pointed his gun at Sean Knight’s group and said, "Each car, 10,000 US dollars!"

One team member was about to draw his gun in response, but Sean Knight gestured for him to stop and asked,

"Did you discover this place?"

"What if we did? What if we didn’t? If you want to make a fortune here, you have to pay us!" The leader, wearing a hat, was quite arrogant. "Otherwise, get lost!"

A team member, clearly annoyed by the arrogance, really wanted to take down those three right then and there—to tell the truth, it seemed these three had never even considered the possibility of resistance.

However, without a word from Sean Knight, they just had to endure it for the time being.

"I can pay," Sean Knight said, pulling out a stack of US dollars, "But if I’m paying, I should get something in return—at least some solid information. I’m looking for a person named Maramart, you took the money, you should know him, right?"

"Maramart?" The man with the hat looked at the stack of US dollars in Sean Knight’s hand, and his eyes lit up.

"Boss, it must be that old black man who came first, right? I remember some people calling him Maramart!" a voice behind reminded softly.

"Then that’s him." The man with the hat was hardly sure, but he pointed to a hole in the pyramid that had been dug open and said, "He’s in there, the old black man, bald. Alright, hand over the money!"

Sean Knight took out two more stacks of money and threw them to the man, saying,

"Alright, three cars, 30,000 US dollars, now go on, don’t interfere with our fortune-making!"

The man took the money without getting angry, weighed it in his hand, took another look at Sean Knight’s new car, his eyes darting around, but he didn’t say anything else and turned to leave.

"Boss, are we just going to let him take the money like that?" Douglas Cooper said with resentment. "Want me to take a couple of guys and sneak up on them..."

"No need, let’s find that Maramart first. Too many people around, making a big scene isn’t good. Once we’re done, isn’t that guy up for whatever we want to do with him?"

Having said that, Sean Knight led his people towards the hole in the pyramid.

However, they were stopped before they got close:

"This site is booked, head somewhere else! We don’t want to be disturbed by others!"

Unable to search directly, Sean turned back with his people and simply led them to the sand-buried pyramid, pointed in a direction, and started to dig with everyone else.

After all, Maramart couldn’t possibly rest without ever appearing, and as long as he rested and showed up, there would be a chance to catch him.

Digging through the sand was tough; the site was very dry, and the sand from the holes they dug would slip right back in from the sides.

Being newcomers driving a new car, Sean Knight and his team drew quite a bit of attention.

So from the start, many people were watching their movements, but as they fumbled around digging holes just like everyone else, the attention they received decreased.

"Another fool drawn by rumors, thinking they’ll strike it rich, amateurs!"

After ridiculing Sean Knight’s team for their amateurish efforts, those people returned to their own activities.

Even the three gun-toting men scoffed at Sean Knight and his team from a distance.

But that didn’t hinder Sean Knight and his team from continuing their digging—half an hour later, they gave up, moved to another site, and continued digging while muttering complaints.

"Boss, do we need to be this cautious?" Douglas asked in a low voice, "We’re being played for fools here."

"Heh, if we really dig something up all of a sudden, do you believe that everyone here will definitely swarm us and devour us?" Sean Knight said with a cold laugh.

As he dug, he observed that many people were eyeing the hole near Maramart eagerly.

He believed that if something was really dug up there, surely a fierce battle would ensue!

That’s why Sean Knight decided to act like an amateur, occasionally digging up a few holes.

Just like the character who doesn’t last in digging up carrots in the comic strips.

Time moved slowly, and Sean Knight’s team even ate their meals at the pit’s edge.

The location chosen by Sean Knight was quite far from the center of the excavation, which was actually where the real cluster of buildings was.

But there was so much sand covering many things, leaving no trace visible—in contrast to the smaller, more obvious pyramids nearby.

Some people had dug here, too, but they quickly gave up and moved on to the smaller pyramids.

At night, some people continued to work under the lights, while others set up tents or simply rested in the cars or on the sand.

Sean Knight and his team also stopped their work and went back to their cars.

Tents were already up, and two people were keeping watch; thankfully, no one came to harass them.

"You guys stay here, I’ll go check on that Maramart," Sean Knight told Elijah Hastings and the others before walking away.

It was evident that the three men who took the money didn’t really do anything but demand cash. Now they were occasionally looking around—at anyone’s tent that had something good, they would forcefully take it.

When Sean Knight encountered them, the three were already quite drunk, wobbling as they walked, and holding wine glasses in hand, with bread and other items tucked under their arms.
