Chapter 1222: 620

Sean Knight was surprised to find that the person in one pickup truck at the very back had not yet woken up.

Two men shook him vigorously, and it took a while before he opened his eyes.

These white men were both angry and fearful at the moment.

No one could have expected that just after spending a night in the small town, the box would disappear even though it was guarded.

If those people had dealt with them... it was simply unthinkable!

The lead white man was still dragging the inn’s boss, wanting to check the surveillance.

The inn’s boss stuttered his explanation that there was no surveillance in the town.

Not to mention the small town, even the cities nearby didn’t have much in the way of surveillance.

The boss explained that definitely it wasn’t the townspeople who stole their stuff. He kindly advised them that if they wanted their belongings back, they should get in their cars and start the search immediately.

But how could those men believe him? In the end, they reached a consensus and started their search with guns in hand. Having searched the inn thoroughly, they proceeded to search through the small town, house by house, starting with the inn directly opposite where Sean Knight and his team were staying.

Facing these devilish armed personnel, the townspeople were initially passive, but then they banded together, they too had guns!

Though they were just old AKs, after gathering several dozen people, even the grandfathers’ guns were more than what the fifteen or so white men could handle.

So, when these white men arrived at the entrance of the inn where Sean Knight and his team were staying and intended to search it, the townspeople had already come over and surrounded them.

The white men had initially intended to intimidate the locals, but they didn’t expect the locals to be so firm!

Sean Knight and his team stepped out of the inn and started to watch the excitement.

The people opposite looked at Sean Knight and his team with fire in their eyes.

The leader probably guessed by now that the likelihood of the townspeople causing trouble was really small, but it was a pity he had targeted the wrong people from the start, putting himself in a disadvantageous position.

Sean Knight and his team were not afraid in the slightest, truly embodying the attitude that said, "I just love it when you can’t stand me but you can’t do a damn thing about it."

The eyes of the men opposite were about to shoot fire.

However, faced with the locals who had already loaded their bullets into the gun machines, the group of white men instantly lost their nerve.

They put away their guns, and the leader somewhat sheepishly apologized to the inn’s boss, and finally left a bundle of greenbacks as compensation before slinking out of the town.

"Boss, they really don’t understand the local customs here," Douglas Cooper commented with a laugh as he watched the men leave. "If they had been nice about it, maybe the locals would have lent a hand. Insisting on direct confrontation when their heads are that hard—ridiculous!"

Douglas Cooper and Elijah Hastings knew the habits of the locals, as they had dealt with Sean Knight and the tribe before.

"They probably thought they could be tough because they had guns, but they forgot that this place was once the Imperial Cemetery."

"They won’t give up that easily, will they?" Lincoln Harrington reminded them. "Just now, when they were leaving, the looks they gave us were as if we’d dug up their grandfather’s grave."

"So, when we leave, we might just run into their blockade halfway," Sean Knight said. "We’ll just have to be prepared for it when the time comes."

"Why don’t we just take another road?" Lincoln Harrington was a bit puzzled. "They took the road back; we just need to leave by the road we came in on, right?"

"Actually, I want to check out what they know," Sean Knight had an impromptu idea. "Earlier, when I spread the medicine powder, I overheard their conversation. These are professional cultural relic traffickers... I think they must have a lot more intelligence information in their hands.

Later, I’ll explain to everyone and prepare in advance. As soon as we encounter them, we’ll strike first without hesitation, and remember to ensure your own safety. After this job is done, each of you will get a fifty-thousand-dollar bonus!"

Having received good items, Sean Knight would definitely not let down his crew. The reason he increased their reward was mainly that he anticipated that there would probably be a gunfight later.

As Sean and his team were leaving, the innkeeper reminded them:

"Guests, you must be careful. The group that left just now might consider you targets for revenge. Although you don’t look like the people they’re after, those guys are bastards who won’t listen to reason. You must be very careful!"

Sean thanked the simple-hearted local innkeeper, got into the pickup truck, and drove off toward the direction the others had left.

Two kilometers from the small town, the highway took a turn, and there was a forest by the corner, where those pickup trucks were parked by the roadside.

A freshly cut tree lay across the road, used as a barricade.

The white men, armed with guns, stood on both sides of the road, giving off an air of arrogance.

Leading them were the two Sean had heard chatting on the second floor.

Ronald, no, it should be Rowe, said viciously:

"When those guys get here later, we’ll make sure they pay the price!"

"But their cars didn’t have those boxes." Spike, who shared a room with him, frowned, not believing it was Sean and his team who took the boxes.

"They surely hid them!" Rowe asserted, "I recognize their car; now I remember, we encountered them on the outskirts of Kandahar City! They were going into the city then, but showing up here now is not normal!"

One couldn’t deny that Rowe had his reasons for being the leader of these men.

He managed to remember seeing Sean and his team before, immediately pinpointing the suspects.

"And if they don’t come this way..."

"Relax, if they take the other road, Mahadi will shoot and scare them back here!" Rowe felt confident about his plan. "They got the items and surely must be heading back to Kandahar..."

Then he heard the sound of a car.

"Here they come! Everyone, brace yourselves! Whether we’ll get our money back or not depends on how ruthless you can be!"

Sean was in the lead pickup truck, with Sky Eye always activated, and he was the first to spot the roadblock.

"They’re ahead, just around that bend should be it!" Sean communicated with the other cars via headset, "Now, as planned, everyone except the drivers out of the cars, the lead truck slow down, and the rest of us will flank them along the ditch... Open fire when you see them, leave a couple alive!"

Sean had no mercy for these cultural relic traffickers.

"Remember to put on the silencers!"

This time, Sean and his team were well-prepared, so the plan was very thorough.

He instructed the lead car to slow down to the lowest speed, but amplified the engine roar as Sean got out of the car as well.

Their pace was fast, and following his team members, Sean quickly reached the bend from the short forest by the side of the road.

Indeed, those dozen or so men were standing there, with their guns, still discussing how they would force the cars to stop and then interrogate the occupants.

Seeing that everyone was in position, Sean said softly into the headset:

"Open fire!"
