Chapter 1182: 607 Chapter Is This Trying to Poach from My Corner?
It wasn’t evening yet, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for Cheryl and Sean to be doing "that" during the daytime, so they went to the lakeside to see why James had decided to set up the campsite there.
Around them were tall earthen platforms or stone platforms, and below at the lakeside there was less than two meters of sandy beach, then came the lake water.
There was a gentle slope in the distance, but it seemed like there were people moving around there.
"When we came over, some had suggested camping there," Cheryl said as she noticed Sean looking in that direction, "James said there were too many people, and it would interfere with our investigation plans, so that’s why he set up the campground here.
He said there were fewer people here, the view was clear, and it wouldn’t be disturbed, and that he would figure out a way for us to get up and down when the time came."
As they spoke, James was already directing the workers. From a distance, he saw Sean and Cheryl and waved to them when he noticed them looking his way, then continued to direct the workers to erect scaffolds on the selected stone platform, then install pulleys and hoist the package.
"So that’s how we get up and down," both of them understood. It was like a simple elevator, it just required manual operation.
It indeed seemed convenient for getting up and down.
But was there really an ancient city underwater here?
The workers were slow, which was something Sean understood. He had seen too much of this abroad.
After watching for a while, James headed towards Sean and Cheryl.
Guessing that the man had something to say, both Sean and Cheryl didn’t leave.
James nodded towards Sean first and then said to Cheryl:
"Miss Cheryl, the research team is about to have a meeting to arrange tomorrow’s investigation mission. Please make sure you attend."
Cheryl nodded and then said to Sean:
"Dear, let’s go to the meeting."
James seemed taken aback that Cheryl did not even want to attend the meeting without Sean, he hesitated for a moment before saying:
"Miss Cheryl, I think there’s been a misunderstanding. Only you may attend the meeting. Mr. Knight is not a member of our research team and has no right to participate in the meeting. Additionally, I hope that Miss Cheryl will adhere to the rules of the research team and not disclose any confidential documents."
With that said, he glanced at Sean and then turned to leave.
"I won’t go, then!" As soon as Cheryl heard what James said, her temper flared, "It’s just an underwater ruin site! If it’s such a big deal, I won’t participate!"
Sean smiled and said:
"There’s no need for that. If you’re interested, you should attend. The lake is so big, it’s not their private property, if they can see it, can’t I? Do you think I can’t find anything without his documents? Maybe in the end, he’ll need my help to find the real ruins!"
Sean was just making light conversation, knowing that Cheryl truly enjoyed adventures and uncovering relics, so he was encouraging her not to mind.
The fact that she called him from afar rather than going to China to see him showed that Cheryl placed great importance on this project.
"Well... okay," Cheryl settled down after Sean spoke and after some thought, said, "I’ll attend the meeting first, then come find you later."
Saying that, she playfully raised her eyebrows at Sean, who naturally knew what she meant.
Cheryl went to the meeting alone, and a smug expression appeared on James’s face.
He watched Sean from a distance, looking towards Lake Baikal, thinking to himself that no matter who you were, you wouldn’t succeed here—be it in terms of people, wealth, or fame!
Unaware of James’s cunning thoughts, Sean figured since the other party was so certain about the existence of an ancient city ruins beneath and was making such a big effort, it must be true.
So he jumped down from the tall earthen platform.
This jump startled the working workers!
A drop from a height of twenty-something meters, an ordinary person would die or be severely injured!
One of the workers quickly leaned out to look down, only to find Sean had jumped onto a protrusion about five or six meters below, and was now jumping down to the next one.
"The Chinese... they really know Kung Fu!"
James’s workers weren’t locals, and their eyes widened as they watched Sean’s movements and shouted loudly in amazement.
By the time they finished shouting and other workers came to look, Sean had already safely reached the lakeside, staring at the water in a daze.
Damn it, is he even human?
That worker swallowed hard, thinking to himself.
By the lakeside was a strip of sandy beach, and when Sean’s Sky Eye opened, he was surprised to find tiny specks of golden sand on the sand!
Of course, it was very little.
However, this alone could indicate that there was a golden mine nearby, but couldn’t say much more.
Sean looked towards the Lake, the water gradually got deeper, the bottom changed from hard soil to rock, then came various-sized protrusions, and there were fish swimming around.
The water quality was quite good, albeit a little cool.
Sean’s Sky Eye reached its limit, and he could only vaguely see some huge shadows deep down several tens of meters in the water, not sure if they were the ancient city ruins Cheryl mentioned.
It seemed that a real exploration of what’s inside required diving down there, but of course, not now.
Walking along the lakeside for a while, Sean looked around some more and noticed that nearby several tens of meters below the Lake surface, there were those dark, murky shadows. He wasn’t sure if this was a common terrain feature in the area or if it was peculiar to the part of the lake where James had chosen to camp.
Anyway, since Cheryl was meeting, Sean simply started walking around the Lake.
