Chapter 1164: Chapter 601: I Just Like How You Can’t Stand Me But Can’t Do Anything About It!
"Since you’re following standard procedure, you’ve inspected everything now," Sean Knight, although he felt pretty confident in himself, wasn’t arrogant enough to confront the authorities on their own turf.
However, Elijah Hastings quietly took out his mobile phone and turned on the cameras.
One of the staff noticed this but did not stop him.
At this moment, Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings were just suspects under normal investigation, not yet classified as criminals, so they couldn’t legally be detained.
After all, this was the airport, and Sean Knight was a celebrity.
If things were blown out of proportion, it might be hard for the others to step down gracefully.
Two staff members carefully opened the suitcase placed on the table.
Within the opened suitcase were neatly packed boxes of various sizes.
The staff members’ eyes lit up as they exchanged glances, quickening their pace, each grabbing a packing box and starting to rip open the decorative ribbons with almost savage movements.
"Be careful, the packaging isn’t cheap!" Sean Knight kindly reminded, "If you damage it, you’ll have to pay for it!"
The two staff members completely ignored Sean Knight, swiftly tearing open a box.
However, what was inside the box wasn’t gold, bronze, or any similar artifacts, but a wood carving of a unicorn!
It was obviously machine-made, with bright, vibrant paint and an extremely cartoonish design—
This was a modern handicraft!
The faces of the staff members instantly stiffened!
How is this possible?
Why is this happening?
Where’s the informant?
The other staff member also tore open the packing, only to find a small handmade ceramic cup cushioned with foam inside. But due to the force he had used on the packaging just now, he broke the handle of the cup!
"This ceramic cup is the evidence of your illegal possession of cultural relics!" one of the staff members suddenly shouted, "This cup is a museum piece! It’s listed in our museum’s collection catalog!"
Sean Knight was dumbfounded!
This person was really lying through his teeth!
How could such situations be everywhere?
Was this to cover up their incompetence?
He couldn’t help but ask:
"Are you sure?"
Not just Sean Knight, but the person next to the staff member was also looking at him—with the same implication in their gaze.
The ceramic cup was just the most ordinary kind of handmade ceramic cup commonly seen at street stalls, how could it be a cultural relic?
"I’m sure!" the staff member lifted his chin, addressing Sean Knight, "Come with us for further investigation."
In his mind, he thought that as long as he brought Sean Knight back with him, whether it was apologizing or making amends later, all could be negotiable.
Right now, under the public eye in broad daylight, it wasn’t easy for them to step down!
"Heh," Sean Knight slowly walked over to the suitcase and said,
"Are you really sure? Some words can’t just be spoken casually; once you say them, you have to take responsibility!"
The staff member looked at the broken ceramic cup and then at Sean Knight, as well as the crowd gathering around to watch the commotion, cursing himself for not having pulled Sean Knight aside for a private inspection in a quiet room!
But now, caught in a difficult situation, he bit his teeth and nodded,
"I’m sure!"
"Sigh," Sean Knight breathed out, saying, "I gave you a chance..."
He raised his hand to reach for the ceramic cup when the staff member immediately swatted at his hand, asking sternly,
"What are you doing?"
Elijah Hastings angrily said,
"You better not lay a hand on him!" he stepped forward and pushed the staff member aside.
"Calm down, calm down!" Sean Knight, smiling, withdrew his hand, "I just wanted you to see that there’s a name of the maker and date of production on the ceramic cup, right on the bottom of the cup. You’ll know once you see it—the production date is less than six months ago..."
The face of the staff member instantly flushed with embarrassment.
Still, he tried to argue,
"It could still be something you added later..."
"It’s not added, it’s etched," Sean Knight corrected, "Of course, if you’re saying I etched it onto an artifact, we can do some carbon-14 testing. I’ll pay for it, and we can publish the results in The Times, how about that?"
"Alright, Wenson!" At this point, the boss of the staff members finally spoke up, "This must be a misunderstanding... Mr. Knight, we received an anonymous phone call alleging that you were illegally transporting cultural relics out of the country. It seems the informant has fooled us all... I apologize! Wenson, let’s go!"
With those people gone, airport policemen and security guards began to disperse the curious onlookers.
The security inspectors conducted their normal check and afterwards gave Sean Knight a small gift as compensation—
"Boss, are we letting them get off too easily?" Elijah Hastings felt somewhat depressed.
"Don’t worry," Sean Knight, seated on the airplane, said softly, "If they can’t find any trouble with us, then they will surely go after the informant."
Sean Knight was speaking the truth.
Though the Harrisons had made the phone call anonymously, now that no issues were found with Sean Knight, the museum staff would have to trace back to the source.
With the vast resources of intelligence information at their disposal, the caller had nowhere to hide.
And after the airplane landed, Sean Knight said to Elijah Hastings,
"Let’s also leak the news about our auction participation from a few days ago. Use an inconspicuous platform and distance it from us. I suspect that the informants are most likely those hosting the auction. They’re frantic because we busted their scheme."
