Chapter 1064: Chapter 567: Danger Often Comes with Harvest_3

The four people were moving quickly, but the speed of the poisonous insects and snakes was also alarming!

Among them, several snakes seemed to glide across the sand as if they had wings, rushing over at a speed that epitomized "swift as the wind."

"You go ahead, I’ll torch them a bit!"

Sean Knight saw that it wasn’t working and immediately threw down the box, took a gasoline bottle out of his backpack—which was actually from his spatial realm—and poured it onto the road behind them!

Several winged snakes had already begun to draw near, and Sean Knight lit a cigarette and threw it down!

"Woosh!"

A circle of flames instantly ignited, and those few winged snakes rushed headlong into the fire, falling to the ground, convulsing!

Elijah Hastings and the others also stopped, took out their insecticides, and started spraying it at the nearby poisonous insects!

"Move it!" Sean Knight yelled, "You’re not as fast as me. Don’t get surrounded now, or we’re all done for!"

"Alright!" Elijah Hastings made a split-second decision, threw the insecticide bottle into the swarm, shot it to explode it, and then ran towards the outside of the city!

Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper did the same, tossing their boxes aside and running.

They truly knew that Sean Knight could run faster than them—after all, he had absorbed the most energy.

And Sean Knight also felt that the poisonous insects and snakes were more interested in him than the retreating Elijah Hastings and the others.

Once Lincoln Harrington and the others had sprinted past the sand-covered city wall, Sean Knight felt relieved, took the flame thrower out of his backpack, started retreating while turning it on, and began to spew fire at the poisonous snakes and insects!

Suddenly the flames turned countless poisonous insects and snakes to ash!

However, more of these creatures kept surging forth endlessly from behind!

Knowing he couldn’t burn them all right away, Sean Knight did some more burning, seizing the moment when the venomous creatures couldn’t approach, packed up the two boxes, and then carried the two boxes as he quickly ran toward the city wall.

Yet, the poisonous insects and snakes recklessly kept coming, some even braving the lingering power of the flames to charge directly at him!

Incredibly crazy!

"Boss, get in the car!"

Just then, amid the roar of the car engine, Elijah Hastings and the others came in the off-road vehicle to pick up Sean Knight!

The off-road vehicle took a sharp turn and stopped in front of Sean Knight, with the door open. Sean Knight ducked and leapt in, the door wasn’t even closed yet when the car fishtailed, speeding into the distance, leaving a trail of sand on those snakes that had climbed down from the city wall!

It was only then that Sean Knight had the chance to close the door.

"Damn it, that was insane!" Douglas Cooper exclaimed with lingering fear, "Scorpions as big as fists! If you got stung by one, not even calling for mother hen would help!"

"I heard scorpion stings hurt like hell!" Lincoln Harrington nodded.

"It’s true," confirmed Elijah Hastings while driving, "I got stung by a desert yellow scorpion during exercises in the South Frontier, and it really hurt! Even though I ate the scorpion later, the pain really bothered me for a few days."

"Captain Hastings, hurry! They’re catching up! Damn it, those snakes can fly!" Douglas Cooper suddenly said anxiously, "Hurry up!"

Elijah Hastings, startled, floored the accelerator, car wheels churning up a storm of sand that hit the oncoming winged snakes, and the off-road vehicle took off at high speed, soon disappearing into the blowing sand.

The winged snakes continued to pursue until they reached the very mound where Sean Knight and the others had previously rested, and only then stopped their attack.

A winged snake over two meters long slithered up the mound, its upper body rising high, watching the rapidly disappearing car, its vertical pupils flashed, and it then slid down the mound and swam back.

All the other snakes and insects made way for it, this snake with small horns on its head and wing-like structures on its neck swiftly swam back to the pyramid at the northeast corner of the Ancient City.

Right then, a big cave was revealed at the base of the pyramid, the winged snake slithered into this cave, and other snakes quickly followed.

Some snakes, on their way back, even held beetles or scorpions in their mouths.

Clearly, they needed to eat as well.

The off-road vehicle didn’t stop until it had gone more than ten kilometers.

"Okay, they didn’t follow," Douglas Cooper said, relieved as he saw no more signs of the poisonous insects behind them.

He wasn’t tired but was totally shaken up.

Even Sean Knight had never seen such a vast swarm of poisonous snakes and insects before.

The last time he and Aria Wilson had seen so many scorpions at that Small Relic Site, but those scorpions did not seem to have any intention of attacking.

This time, it was different!

The four of them got out of the car and looked back.

"Where all these poisonous snakes and insects came from I have no idea!" Douglas Cooper wondered, "What do they even eat to survive?"

Sean Knight suddenly spoke up:

"I guess those things came out because they heard us smashing the stone slab. The noise I heard earlier must have been them exiting their holes."

"That might mean there’s a complete ecosystem underground," Lincoln Harrington speculated.

"No matter what, this trip was risky," Elijah Hastings reflected.

"So, about the adventurers who died here and what you said earlier about the ones who died before, could they have been killed by these poisonous snakes and insects?" Lincoln Harrington suddenly asked.

"Possible!" Sean Knight nodded, sharing the sentiment, "That’s the only explanation..."

"Then are we..." Douglas Cooper gestured towards the city wall, hesitant, "going back or not? There’s so much stuff there!"

Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington both looked to Sean Knight.

Sean Knight pondered for a moment and then said:

"Let’s find a place to rest here first, wait for the night to pass. Tomorrow during the day, we’ll go take a look. Maybe those creatures will have retreated by then."

"Okay!" the others agreed.

They found a sand dune nearby to park the vehicle, set up the tent, and the group began to eat their Self-heating Food.

"Boss, you were incredible, to carry back two boxes in that situation," Douglas Cooper said as he ate.

Sean Knight just smiled and did not comment.

In his mind flashed the image of that golden statue in his space.

His intuition told him that the diamond ball inside that statue would provide the answers to all the mysteries they faced!
