Chapter 1041: Chapter 560: The Wolf Clan Comes!

Early the next day, after Mr. Mitchell had left, Sean Knight arranged for Elijah Hastings and the others to guard the oil field, while Lincoln Harrington took a few security guards to follow the expert for measurements. Sean himself accompanied Aria Wilson to the ruins in the desert, to have some fun.

Although Sean was still somewhat worried about the security of the oil field due to Mr. Mitchell’s words, worrying about it now was pointless. Besides, under normal circumstances, even those with wolfish ambitions coveting the oil field would likely attempt diplomacy before resorting to force.

After all, this is not Libya, nor is it Syria. It’s a member state of OPEC. Within the same system, if these individuals were to use force outright, they would truly be discarding all pretense.

For the time being, those individuals weren’t eager to reveal their true intentions, and the war between Russia and Ukraine also distracted their attention, so Sean wasn’t too anxious at the moment.

Sean and his party set off early. When the off-road vehicle arrived at the ruin site, the sun had just risen, and the air still held a hint of coolness.

Once out of the car, Aria pointed to the ruin site nearby and said,

"It is said that these buildings were left by the ancient inhabitants here over a thousand years ago.

The main reason they turned into ruins is the oasis’ water source dried up, leaving the inhabitants unable to survive here any longer, so they eventually left, turning this place into an abandoned city."

As Aria spoke, there was both pride and nostalgia in her voice.

Looking over, the ruin site wasn’t very large, about the size of two football fields. A temple ruin at the central location was the most intact, with more collapse and destruction towards the edges.

What made Sean curious and intrigued was that these buildings were clearly made of stone, yet there were only deserts nearby, with no sign of stone mountains or quarries.

Could it be that there once were stone quarries here, but they eventually got buried by the desert sands due to abandonment and the substantial windsand in the desert areas?

Of course, these were all speculations.

"Let’s go in and take a look," Aria said, tugging on Sean’s arm, and then quickly letting go.

Sean could see the back of Aria’s ears turn red.

Such a shy girl.

As they walked along, the road was mostly covered with sand, and occasionally, withered plants could be seen. Some reptiles and snakes were startled from under the rocks, scurrying in all directions, making Aria step back a few paces in fright.

"I’m not afraid of these little creatures, I just didn’t expect them to suddenly appear..." Aria explained quietly, looking at Sean who had quickly moved to protect her.

The bodyguards accompanying Aria also rushed forward to clear the road of any potential dangers.

Sean and Aria walked side by side, glancing left and right now and then.

Mostly shops were to the left and right, with residential buildings inside the courtyard. Sky Eye revealed some metal products beneath the ruins, mostly utensils.

In this arid place, the metal utensils were relatively well-preserved and hadn’t rusted much.

There were also occasional signs of excavation, but not many.

Sky Eye didn’t reveal anything worthy of excavation here.

"Mr. Knight, you were once a treasure hunt expert, can you tell if there’s any treasure here now?"

"I can’t tell," Sean shook his head, "Actually, this ruin site in itself is already a treasure for historians. It’s just that perhaps similar sites are numerous in this desert, and that’s why they’re not valued as much.

As for treasures in terms of money, those need a thorough search to be found."

The two carried on walking and talking, occasionally stopping in front of a wall with patterns that hadn’t collapsed. At these moments, Aria’s expertise came into play.

She would meticulously introduce the meaning of these patterns to Sean and speculate on the original purpose of the building the wall was part of.

This was somewhat unexpected for Sean, who hadn’t thought this shy yet somewhat brave girl would also be knowledgeable in this area.

It seemed that one should not underestimate the women from these religiously traditional countries, who might also study history, literature, and architecture, using such knowledge as a hobby.

Seeing the admiration in Sean’s eyes, Aria’s mood lifted significantly, and her courage grew. As they walked forward, she would occasionally take the initiative to share some knowledge about the ruin site or the country’s history.

The ruin site wasn’t very large, and in about fifteen minutes, the group approached the central Divine Temple.

The Divine Temple was a square building with its original semi-dome top now in ruins, leaving only a few layers of stone bricks. The marks above indicated that birds had once nested there, leaving behind traces of nests and droppings.

Seeing this, Sean was reminded of his mischievous childhood when he used to climb the walls of the abandoned collective farm, lifting the bricks layer by layer, searching for birds’ nests.

Back then, it was just a child’s mischief, but looking back it seemed quite cruel — his peers would tear down the nests they found and play with the eggs or fledglings inside.

As for what happened later, there was no chance for life.

And Sean clearly remembered that one time he climbed the wall, he saw a golden eagle as tall as a child and got scared away.

There were already tales of this creature being able to snatch away sheep or children to eat them.

For some reason, looking at the brick wall above, he recalled this fragment of his childhood memories.
