Chapter 1037: 558
The quantity wasn’t much, but Sean weighed a gold ingot that was half of a kilogram in his hand.
All the gold added up to a bit over thirty kilograms.
For a small mine, that was quite good.
Sean even guessed this was probably half a year’s production from the mine.
Packing all the gold into a small box, Sean carried it outside.
Valued at about 2 million dollars, it was worth the trip.
Carrying the box, he approached Elijah and showed them the gold in his hand.
"We pulling out now?" Elijah asked.
"Ensure safety first," Sean knew that if they pulled out now, their opponents would definitely chase them. It would be better to deal with the hidden dangers first, unless the opponents stopped fighting.
Suddenly, frantic shooting sounds came down from above, followed by disorganized shooting downwards.
Seizing the moment, Elijah and Lincoln quickly raced up, and after a few more gunshots from above, all fell silent.
Sean knew the situation was mostly settled, so he walked downstairs.
By the time he got down, Elijah and the other two had also come down.
A man peeked from the single-story house, but was scared back by a warning shot from Douglas.
The four returned to the off-road vehicle, and Sean handed the box to Elijah:
"Over thirty kilograms of gold, consider it your reward."
As the oil field had yet to see any profit, and the transferred money included their share, Sean wasn’t interested in the gold.
"Well, thank you, boss!" Elijah said with a laugh.
"Thanks, boss!" Lincoln chimed in.
"Thanks, boss!" Douglas joined the line of thanks.
Sean felt there was more jesting in their words.
"Let’s go, we need to get back before daybreak!" Sean got into the car.
Douglas, looking delighted, carried the box and followed into the car.
The off-road vehicle made a turn and started back on the road they came from.
The windsand was still quite strong on the way, and the car occasionally got stuck.
Fortunately, it was a new car with strong power—this was the car Aria had left for Sean, and it didn’t experience any major problems along the way.
When they arrived back at the courtyard, daylight had already broken.
Inside the courtyard, several people were moving around, and they seemed quite surprised to see Sean and the others.
The director hadn’t woken up yet, but he was soon called.
"The night was restless, they thought you might not come back," the director was still very conscientious, "Fortunately, everyone didn’t want to lose their jobs, so far so good."
"You did well!" Sean praised, "Everyone trusts us, and we will also make everyone feel assured. Tonight, we’ll have a special meal, and everyone will get a bottle of fine wine!"
"Boss, you’re the best!" The director was extremely happy.
The boss hadn’t left, and they weren’t worried about reprisals. Now, everything was fine, and they could even draw double wages, plus the feast and wine—what could be better than that?
In the afternoon, preparations for the feast were nearly complete, and Sean received a phone call from Aria. She had already arranged for people to come, and planned to bring the experts over for an evaluation early the next day.
Everything was progressing according to plan.
Dinner time arrived, and the locals, along with the technicians hired from outside, began eating and drinking in the Courtyard.
Although it was still hot in the Courtyard, the breeze carried away the heat, the Sun had set, and everyone was in high spirits, with some even starting to dance while drinking.
It must be said that many people are naturally optimistic, able to create happiness for themselves in any environment.
Sean Knight, holding a beer bottle, sat on the side watching these people dance, recalling the discussion between the fisherman and the wealthy man about sunbathing.
Early the next day, a car arrived in the courtyard.
At first, when Sean Knight heard the sound of the car’s engine, he thought it was Aria Wilson, but once he went out the front gate and saw a not-so-new off-road vehicle, he knew it wasn’t her.
The people who got out of the car indeed confirmed it wasn’t her.
Three men and one woman emerged from the off-road vehicle. The lead man was about forty years old, and the other two were younger, one in his twenties and another in his thirties.
The woman was in her twenties, looked like she had had cosmetic surgery, and had the air of someone who drinks green tea. After getting out of the car, she looked around curiously.
When she saw Sean Knight, the middle-aged man immediately put on a smile and strode over, saying,
"You must be Mr. Knight? I’m Zackery Guthrie! Zackery Guthrie of Hanhai Energy, the one who gave you a phone call the other day!"
Sean Knight was indeed a bit surprised. He recognized Zackery Guthrie’s voice, but hadn’t expected the man to actually show up!
"Mr. Guthrie, please come in," Sean Knight said with a smile, gesturing inside. "It’s hot outside, let’s go in and sit down."
"Yes, yes, yes." Zackery Guthrie was still wearing a suit. As he walked, he undid his suit jacket and complained to Sean Knight,
"I really didn’t expect it to be so hot here—when I got up early this Morning, I thought the house was quite cool... Then I realized it’s because the hotels here use air conditioning."
Under the blazing Sun, heat was rising in waves, and even though it was not long after Breakfast, the heat was already pulsating.
Sean Knight led Zackery Guthrie and the others into the office, and after introductions, he found out that the younger man was Guthrie’s bodyguard and driver, and the thirty-year-old was his translator.
The woman was his assistant—and secretary.
"Mr. Knight, is this your oil field? Why don’t I see any oil wells?"
The assistant secretary, Laura Caldwell, asked with a coquettish tone.
"This is the Living Area," Elijah Hastings said emotionlessly from the side. "No one would put an oil well in the Living Area."
"Oh, is that so!"
Zackery Guthrie laughed awkwardly,
"Laura hasn’t worked at the grassroots level, so she’s not very clear on things. Please understand, understand. By the way, Mr. Knight, have we figured out the oil reserve of our oil field? I came with full sincerity. As long as I’m satisfied, we can sign the contract immediately."
Sean Knight shook his head and said with a smile,
"Cooperation is about mutual benefit, isn’t it? It’s not just about you being satisfied; I have to be satisfied too, right? The expert should be able to come for an inspection and analysis today. The specific reserves are definitely upwards of one hundred million tons. As for the quality of the oil, we already have results for that, Mr. Guthrie. You can take a look at these first."
Having said that, he handed a stack of photocopied documents to Zackery Guthrie.
Zackery Guthrie smiled and began to look through the documents carefully.
So he wasn’t completely clueless after all—at least he appeared to understand the data on the documents.
"Mr. Knight, is this data correct? Is it really this good?" Zackery Guthrie, after looking through the documents, flashed a look of surprise, then said affirmatively,
"Mr. Knight, if the data is correct, there’s no need to wait for the experts. I can give you a high offer right now—300 million yuan. How about that? It’s a high price, isn’t it?"
Upon hearing the price, Sean Knight looked at him as if he were looking at an idiot: Was this guy kicked in the head by a donkey?
