Chapter 1034: 557
The bodyguard and Amina took Aria to rest while Sean Knight and the others began cleaning up the site.
By the time daybreak came the second day, people started to trickle out, and everything had returned to tranquil.
After breakfast, just as Aria was about to discuss the next part of the itinerary with Sean Knight, his phone rang.
It was a call from Craig Davis.
"Little Brother Knight, there’s something I need to fill you in on ahead of time."
Such an address was insisted upon by Sean Knight. He felt somewhat awkward being called Mr. Knight by Craig.
"What’s up? Just tell me," Sean Knight signaled to Aria with his hand, indicating he had something to discuss and asked her to take a walk first.
Understanding, Aria smiled sweetly at Sean Knight and then turned to walk to her room.
Her beauty was something Sean Knight was happy to appreciate, though naturally, he preferred not to share the sight with unrelated others.
"It’s like this. Since you got the oil field, and you’re hiring workers and technicians, I mentioned it to a few friends to help refer some reliable folks.
I didn’t expect that before we had any leads on workers and technicians, someone started inquiring about buying your oil field or directly taking over the sales of your crude oil. It’s become a bit of a... situation."
"That’s good news," said Sean Knight, laughing, "but I can’t handle that right now.
I still haven’t fully figured out the specific reserves, extractable amount, and the quality of the oil here. Even if someone wants to buy, I also need to set a price, which has to be done by the professionals."
"As for that matter... I don’t really have the right people. But I can ask around for you," Craig understood that such matters couldn’t be rushed; he mainly wanted to give Sean Knight a heads-up to avoid being caught off guard if someone contacted him directly.
Sean Knight hung up and, after giving it some thought, went to find Aria.
"You’re saying you want to find a relatively objective expert to evaluate the reserves and value of this oil field?" Aria asked, slightly surprised.
"Yes. Although I’ve just gotten my hands on this oil field, people are already planning to purchase it or take over the sales of the crude oil here. I must know the overall value of the oil field to decide on the price."
"Okay," Aria listened to Sean Knight’s words, and for a moment seemed a bit distracted, "I’ll get in touch... I happen to know a few professional and objective assessment agencies. This kind of thing can’t be determined by just one or two experts."
Noticing Aria’s somewhat absent-minded gaze, Sean Knight asked:
"Are you feeling okay?"
"No, not at all," Aria did not expect Sean Knight to notice her change so quickly, and quickly looked down, saying:
"It’s nothing, I’m just thinking... about which agency to call... Oh, them, there’s an agency called ’Exceptional Scales,’ they tend to be more objective in the assessment of oil fields and businesses, they do charge quite a bit though..."
"No problem, as long as they’re professional," Sean Knight practically had this vast oil field for nothing, so why would he care about a little assessment fee?
"Then I’ll have someone contact them. This afternoon they can send someone over to assess the oil field," Aria recovered her natural expression, "It’s good for me too, to see how these agencies evaluate the reserves and value of an oil field."
Since they could come so quickly, Sean Knight naturally wasn’t in a hurry anymore.
In the morning, he continued to wander around with Aria, and on the advice of an engineer, they visited a ruins site about twenty kilometers from the courtyard.
The ruins had once belonged to a city that had been abandoned for unknown reasons.
Now, broken walls were all that remained, except for a divine temple at the city’s heart, which was relatively intact.
The garbage left behind proved that this wasn’t the first time people had visited. There were barely any valuable items at first glance.
However, Sean Knight and his company’s entry startled several desert lizards and a snake.
These small creatures quickly scurried away from their hiding places and slithered into the desert.
Watching the lizard’s swift escape reminded Sean Knight of a small animal called "horse snake" back in the Gobi of his hometown.
As he was reminiscing, a small one darted right by his feet. Sean stepped on it and then picked it up.
Surprisingly, this creature, which would normally make girls scream and run, didn’t frighten Aria; she even took it from Sean’s hand to play with it.
She truly was someone who grew up raising lions and tigers; such small animals couldn’t scare her!
It was at this moment that Sean Knight’s satellite phone rang.
"Mr. Knight? Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Zackery Guthrie, the General Manager of Ocean Energy Company."
"Mr. Guthrie, hello." Sean guessed from the conversation that it was probably about the energy company.
"I’ve long admired you, Mr. Knight, but it seems I haven’t truly understood you. I never expected that you could secure an oil field in the Middle East... I truly admire that!"
Guthrie was quite the talker, starting with a flattering barrage of pleasantries.
"Mr. Guthrie, do you have a reason for calling? I am currently in the desert, and it’s not very convenient to talk," Sean Knight said, slightly impatiently, "Could you please get to the point?"
"Oh, apologies! I’ll get to it then. I heard about the oil field you acquired, Mr. Knight, and I’m very interested. I would like to discuss the possibility of purchasing it, what do you think...?"
"Well, Mr. Guthrie, you’ll have to wait a bit," Sean Knight responded, "The oil field’s initial estimated reserves are one hundred million tons. But that’s just a preliminary estimate. I’m currently bringing in experts for a real assessment. After the assessment, I can decide whether to extract or sell it. So for the time being, it’s not up for sale."
"Oh, I see... Can I come take a look?" Guthrie sounded a bit persistent.
"Sure. I’ll give you the location; you can come and see for yourself when you have the time." Sean Knight was always open to financial opportunities knocking on his door.
Of course, he didn’t realize just how bizarre the person on the other end could be.
