Chapter 101: Chapter One Hundred and One: Encounter
Sean hung up the phone, and when he got up, he found that it was already bright daylight outside.
Recently, because he had his own freight yard and his own business, John would send him a list of auction containers or warehouse information every morning or the night before.
Basically, they didn’t call each other anymore.
Jason went to the freight yard early every day, thinking that taking care of the yard for Sean was the most important thing to do.
Thus, Sean felt relaxed and free.
Sean bought a hamburger outside, ate it in a hurry, and then drove to the manor where Brad was located, as recorded in the diary.
So many years had passed that he didn’t know whether the manor still existed or not.
To Sean’s surprise, not only did the manor exist, but it had also been expanded considerably.
Looking from a distance, there were three houses on the property. Two were luxuriously renovated villas and one was a single-story house.
Even the single-story house wasn’t ordinary.
There were also stables and cowsheds. Surprisingly, there was even a small golf course within the manor!
It seemed that the owner of the manor was quite rich and powerful, far beyond the reach of ordinary people.
After observing, Sean didn’t have much hope for the trip.
Just then, two cars arrived at the entrance to the manor.
Some people got out, and the security guard at the front gate stepped forward to inquire. The visitors took out something, the security guard spoke into the walkie-talkie and then waved his hand, indicating that they would not let the visitors in.
A tall white youth argued for a while but eventually had to leave in his car, looking dejected.
It seemed that the security here was strict, and the people inside didn’t welcome visitors.
Sean also came down from the high ground and left in his car.
What he didn’t know was that the tall white youth was none other than William, the treasure hunter who didn’t care much about Sean.
Sean made a turn and headed for the abandoned mountain mine.
The mine was about 60 kilometers from New York City. A little over an hour later, Sean arrived there.
Almost 10 kilometers of the rough mountain road was swallowed by bushes and wild grasses. If Sean hadn’t prepared in advance, he would be hard-pressed to find the place.
Even so, when the car arrived about 500 to 600 meters from the mine entrance, it could no longer proceed.
He had no choice but to get out of the car, carry a gun, and advance on foot with a knife.
Half of the mine entrance had collapsed, and it was blocked by some shrubs. If Sean didn’t have Sky Eye, it would be tough to find.
However, not far from the mine entrance, a coyote was standing on a stone, watching Sean.
Sean aimed his gun at the coyote, which was very alert and immediately jumped off the stone and ran away.
Sean put away his gun with some regret and walked to the mine entrance.
He scanned it with Sky Eye and found no dangerous animals. The mine entrance was not too steep, being a 45-50 degree slope that wasn’t difficult to walk up.
He pushed aside the bushes and crawled in, bending over.
The depth that Sky Eye could scan was limited, and he had to go inside to see if there were any discoveries.
Sean was mentally prepared. If he didn’t find anything, he could treat this trip as an excursion or hunting trip.
However, without a hunting license, Sean wouldn’t dare take any game he caught back, unless absolutely necessary.
Upon entering the cave, Sean turned on the high-powered flashlight he prepared earlier and slowly groped his way in.
The mine had been abandoned for a long time, with its simple interior and exterior tracks removed. Only some discarded ores and naturally grown weeds and bushes remained.
The mine was about the height of a person, about two meters wide, and about 30 meters deep. Then there was a bend.
Sean continuously scanned the area with Sky Eye, looking for possible mechanisms.
After the bend and less than 50 meters in, the mine became three separate tunnels, each leading in a different direction.
Sean scratched his head. That made things a little more difficult.
However, since he was there, he couldn’t give up halfway, so he simply went into the left tunnel.
About ten minutes later, Sean reemerged with a gloomy face and entered the middle tunnel.
This tunnel was deeper with visible signs of excavation along the way and some places for miners to rest temporarily.
However, he didn’t find anything, even after walking all the way to the end of the tunnel.
Left with no choice, he returned to take the right tunnel.
Unexpectedly, the small right tunnel turned out to be the deepest.
He walked close to a kilometer, finding the largest space in that tunnel.
At the end of the tunnel was a huge spatial realm.
There were traces of mined ores all around the area, with many ores piled up on the sides. They had either been left behind or discarded for being of low quality.
There were also a few abandoned mining carts leaning to one side.
Water had collected deep inside the cave, and as Sean approached, he noticed ripples on the surface, indicating the presence of some life.
A few big rats screeched in the corner of the cave, showing no fear of humans.
This reminded Sean of a video game he once played that featured a mine.
He wondered if anything like zombies would crop up there...
Uh, that’s a bad joke!
Sean gave himself a mental warning and then started scanning with Sky Eye.
As expected, he found a concealed door in the corner of the cave that was blocked by ores.
At first glance, one couldn’t tell that there was anything suspicious.
Sean carefully removed some of the ores, revealing the secret door. However, as he continued to move the ores away, a passageway appeared.
The passageway was less than a person’s height, so Sean had to crawl in with his back bent.
After about two meters of ores inside the passageway, there was an empty corridor.
A musty smell lingered in his nostrils, and Sean secretly regretted his lack of preparation.
If only he had brought a gas mask with him!
After about 20 meters down the corridor, he saw an iron gate in front of him. The gate had a handle and looked like it wouldn’t be too heavy to pull open.
Before Sean approached, he scanned the area with Sky Eye again.
Sure enough, there was a thin wire attached to the handle, which was connected to explosives buried underground.
With Sean’s limited knowledge of explosions, he knew that if the explosives detonated, even ten of him would be turned to pieces.
The passage would also be completely destroyed by the explosion, along with whatever lay behind the explosives.
That was ruthless!
However, since he had seen it, he could easily disable the mechanism, even with his limited knowledge of explosions.
He slowly untied the wire attached to the handle, laid it flat, and inspected it again with Sky Eye. Once he confirmed that there were no problems, he carefully opened the door.
The thing that many people dreamed of finally appeared before Sean.
However, Sean didn’t enter immediately. Instead, he carefully shone his powerful flashlight around the room and confirmed that there was no danger before stepping in.
A new treasure space opened up before him!
