Rise of The Demon General
Chapter 274. A Terrible Mistake

Chapter 274: Chapter 274. A Terrible Mistake

Almost everyone in that park had their attention on either one of the two battles. It was either the battle between Xian Yang and Yang Jun, or between the Swift Spirit Sparrow and the Pledge Demon. Thus, they didn’t notice when two people previously involved in one of these battles were gone. These people were Amon and Tuang Yin.

Xian Yang was the first to notice their disappearance and put in the effort to locate them. He found Tuang Yin, surprised to find her a distance away. At first, he thought she and Amon would cooperate with Yang Jun to take him down.

Tuang Yin was not the target Xian Yang was looking for, though. He was looking for Amon. He was worried that Amon had run away. It was a rare opportunity to find Amon outside the protection of his faction and the Royal Academy. Thus, he couldn’t miss this opportunity.

Xian Yang’s performed another thrust that conjured drilling sand. The swirling sand smashed into Yang Jun’s axe, throwing the two of them away. He utilized the recoiling force to jump onto the roof of a nearby house. Up there, he tried locating Amon again. He was not here to fight these villagers. He didn’t want to waste time on them.

He believed Amon was running away. Thus, his gaze was away from the park, away from the battles going on there. He wanted to see in which direction Amon was fleeing. He was disappointed that his Swift Spirit Sparrow had lost the ability to fly. Otherwise, he would have used it to gain altitude and look for Amon from the sky.

The irony was that Xian Yang was looking for Amon in the wrong direction. Amon was still in the heat of the battle. Except he was in the other fight, the one between the Swift Spirit Sparrow and the Pledge Demon.

Tuang Yin, who Xian Yang had located, had positioned herself so that Yon Niang and the Swift Spirit Sparrow were in a line, with Yon Niang being closer to her. She then charged toward Yon Niang. When she leaped, the flames around her were like a fire eagle that swooped toward Yon Niang.

Yon Niang noticed Tuang Yin’s attack due to the heat she exuded. She turned and saw Tuang Yin was almost upon her. She didn’t worry, though. Before Tuang Yin’s claws arrived, the Pledge Demon teleported and used its body to block Tuang Yin’s fiery claws.

Tuang Yin had expected that. The second the Pledge Demon appeared, the flames in her hand exploded. This blast propelled her back just as the Pledge Demon’s four arms came to grab her.

The Swift Spirit Sparrow, who was fighting the Pledge Demon earlier, charged forward when the Pledge Demon vanished. It had been given a command from Xian Yang to defeat either the Pledge Demon or its master. The master was exposed now that the Pledge Demon was blocking an attack from the other side.

Despite not flying, the Swift Spirit Sparrow’s running speed was still fast. It arrived before Yon Niang just after Tuang Yin shot herself out of the Pledge Demon’s reach. Its beak went for Yon Niang like a massive scythe. However, what it pierced was the Pledge Demon, who had teleported again to protect Yon Niang.

What everyone didn’t notice was a vine sneaking past the Swift Spirit Sparrow when it was blocked by the Pledge Demon. This vine came from Amon. Xian Yang failed to locate Amon because he didn’t expect Amon to be using his pet as cover.

Amon had been following the Swift Spirit Sparrow closely without touching it. The giant bird’s attention was so fully on the Pledge Demon that it didn’t realize an enemy was shadowing it from behind. He adjusted to any sudden movements the bird made and kept himself invisible from most others. Thankfully, the bird had lost its ability to fly. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to pull this off.

When the Pledge Demon blocked the Swift Spirit Sparrow, Amon also acted. The vine sneaked from Yon Niang’s blind angle and snatched her the instant the Swift Spirit Sparrow’s beak pierced into the Pledge Demon.

Yon Niang was so surprised when she found herself yanked away.

"Momma...!" Yon Yu cried when her mother was suddenly pulled away.

The Pledge Demon, realizing its master had been seized, teleported again. Its teleporting speed was so instant it had come between Yon Niang and Amon before he could pull her to him. Two of its arms grabbed the vine that was binding Yon Niang. The vine was ripped apart.

Those who watched the scene thought Amon’s plan had failed. The Pledge Demon still managed to protect its master due to its teleporting ability. However, when Amon pulled Yon Niang, he had also thrown his swan dagger onto the ground ahead. Yon Niang might have stopped midway due to the Pledge Demon’s rescue, but that midway was right on top of where the swan dagger lay.

The swan dagger was attached to the Xian Cloth. Although Amon could not yet fully control the cloth, he could control a portion of it. He channeled his aether into the Xian Cloth just as the Pledge Demon came between him and Yon Niang. When the Pledge Demon grabbed his vine, the swan dagger shot vertically from the ground.

The Xian Cloth was as if an extension of Amon’s hand. With the swan dagger in its grasp, it thrust into Yon Niang’s back.

"Hrghh...!" Yon Niang didn’t even know what had struck her.

"MOMMYYY...!!!" Yon Yu called as she ran to her mother.

Amon had dipped the tip of his swan dagger using the Black Slaughter Poison when he let Yang Jun fight Xian Yang and move away. He knew he only had one shot to kill Yon Niang and might not be able to hit her vital spot, so he needed a sure-kill method even if he only nicked her. He had resolved to expose his poison ability to take out Yon Niang.

Yon Niang fell weakly to the ground. Her skin started to turn purple. The poison worked fast. Yon Yu came to her side while crying.

Amon, who had successfully pulled off his trick, was frowning.

"Mission accomplished!" Tuang Yin exclaimed as she came to Amon’s side.

"I can’t believe it! You truly did it!" Leng Ku also came.

Yang Jun was still chasing Xian Yang and fighting him ferociously. When he saw Yon Niang fall, he stopped and looked over.

Xian Yang also stopped. He finally saw Amon, but he was confused. Wasn’t that woman beast master Amon’s ally? Why did Amon attack his own ally?

"We are free...!" Leng Ku exclaimed loudly.

"She is not a cultivator..."

"Huh? Did you say something?" Tuang Yin asked Amon.

"She is not a cultivator!" Amon exclaimed.

Leng Ku looked at Amon with a confused expression. He said, "She is not. We never said she was. In her family, only her husband and daughter are cultivators."

Amon realized then. They had made a terrible mistake.

"She was not the Pledge Demon’s master!" Amon exclaimed as he stared at the Pledge Demon floating above the fallen Yon Niang. It was using its body to cover the corpse while fighting the Swift Spirit Sparrow. The giant bird was still carrying out Xian Yang’s command. Now that the beast tamer was down, its sole target was the spirit beast.

"What? What do you mean...?" Leng Ku asked Amon. "Who is its master then?"

"It can’t be...," Amon’s gaze was on Yon Yu, who was shaking her mother while crying. "She is not even fifteen... She can’t be a Transformation Stage cultivator."

"She is not. She is just at the Mortal Stage," Leng Ku informed.

Amon was perplexed. If so, how could the Pledge Demon exhibit power that rivaled an Intermediate to Peak Transformation Stage cultivator? Unless Xin Lie gave him false information about the Pledge Demon? Whatever the reason, their mission was not yet accomplished.

"You... You are in league with this demon who killed mommy...?"

Leng Ku turned to Yon Yu, who just spoke. Her eyes were leaking tears, but those eyes that stared at him had chilling coldness in them.

"Yon Yu, I’m sorry," Leng Ku said. "We have no choice. We can’t let your mother continue to enslave us. Don’t worry, we will take care of you."

"Take care of me? Didn’t you all make that pledge before? But in the end, you still want to hurt me! You hurt my father. You hurt my mother. You will come for me next! I hate you! I hate you all!! All of you should die...!!!"

Amon felt strong malice erupting from the little girl. The Pledge Demon above her suddenly flared crimson. It also emitted a loud hum. Everyone there felt like their head was about to split.

The Swift Spirit Sparrow froze from this mental assault. The assault this time was way stronger than before. It couldn’t move for a longer period than before. During this period, the Pledge Demon’s four arms came looping around the bird’s neck. While grabbing that neck, the arms twisted.

The twisting force was so rapid and strong that the Swift Spirit Sparrow’s head was torn right off.
