Rise of The Demon General -
Chapter 251. Yan Fan’s Visit
Chapter 251: Chapter 251. Yan Fan’s Visit
On the surface, the disappearance of the Street Aristocrats was not that conspicuous. They were the underworld organization, after all. The Sewer Snakes and the Demon Gang took over to collect protection money from common business owners. For these business owners, they didn’t care whether it was the Street Aristocrats or other organizations, so long as they let them do business in peace after they paid.
It was the same with the authorities. As long as they received their cut and the organizations didn’t cause too much trouble, they left these underworld organizations alone.
The authorities didn’t trouble the Sewer Snakes and the Demon Gang for the massacre they did on the Street Aristocrats. The victims of that conflict were solely the underworld members. No civilians were harmed. The civilians didn’t even realize there had been a big fight that night. Almost all of them were at the festival hosted by the governor.
The one who was affected the most by the fall of the Street Aristocrats was the Yan Clan. The Street Aristocrats were their subsidiary organization. Without it, they lost much control over the territory where they lived and conducted business.
The Street Aristocrats helped them keep a rein on the public. They were an upright clan. They couldn’t be viewed as overbearing. However, while conducting their legitimate business, they sometimes needed to put some pressure on their rivals. This was where Street Aristocrats came in.
With their bad boys gone, it was as they if had lost their teeth. Not to mention, they had bad relations with both the underworld organizations currently running the territory previously owned by Street Aristocrats. It was their businesses that now experienced pressure and harassment from thugs. They could no longer be so carefree. They had to place capable bodyguards to scare off these thugs, which meant they lost manpower to perform other more important tasks. This also meant extra costs, and thus lower profits.
They tried to rebuild the Street Aristocrats, but it was easier said than done. The raid that night took out almost all the Street Aristocrats members. The remaining chose to defect or leave. They had to find new blood to rebuild the organization, but it was not easy. With the Sewer Snakes and Demon Gang watching the streets, any growing buds were quickly uprooted.
So, the Yan Clan could only grit their teeth as they thought of a way to deal with this situation.

Amon spent his days cooped up in the royal academy to recuperate from the wounds caused by Lu Zu. Aside from attending the lectures in theory class, he mostly stayed at home to let his body recover.
One week after the night raid that took down the Street Aristocrats, he was visited by some guests. The guests were brought by a teacher, so he couldn’t ignore them. When he walked out of his house, he saw three people. Two he knew, but the third one was a stranger.
"What makes you come to Qishurg City?" Amon asked Wei Linkun.
"That is none of your business," Wei Linkun replied crudely.
"Very well," Amon said. He turned around and walked back.
"Bastard! Where do you think you are going?" Wei Linkun called.
Gao Xi, the teacher who brought these guests, shouted, "Student Lin Mo, how dare you leave us? These two are past graduates of this royal academy. One of them was among the top ten when he graduated. You should be honored by their visit!"
Amon stopped. He turned back and said, "I don’t feel honored. Me coming out here is already giving you face. If you want to talk rudely to me, I have nothing to say to you. Go and request the academy to issue an official summon for us to meet."
"Hahaha!" The stranger among the three laughed. "You are as arrogant as I heard. As someone who kept the number one spot in both the freshman and junior classes, I say you have the right to. Please allow me to apologize on behalf of my companion. I hope you are willing to grant us a chance to talk."
"Yan Fan..." Wei Linkun was in disbelief as he watched Yan Fan. Yan Fan was bowing deeply in Amon’s direction. It was a long time since they saw one another, but he remembered Yan Fan was a haughty person. He would never imagine Yan Fan bowing to anyone.
"What do you wish to speak about?" Amon asked. He stood where he was with folded arms.
Yan Fan rose with a warm smile. He said, "Would it not be better if we have our discussion while drinking tea?"
"I don’t have the time to socialize. Say your piece, and don’t waste my time."
"You...!" Wei Linkun was about to scold Amon, but Yan Fan waved for him to calm down.
The smile on Yan Fan’s face never faded. He nodded. "All right, student Lin Mo. I see you are a direct person. In that case, I will be direct as well. Let me introduce myself first. I am Yan Fan. I was a student at this academy, but I work for the kingdom now. I am one of the constables of this city, and I am here on an official matter."
Amon frowned after learning Yan Fan’s identity. "What does a constable need from me?" He asked.
"I oversee a difficult case troubling our city. I hope that you can shed some light on it."
"What case?" Amon asked.
"The case is regarding the multiple murders that have been happening in this city since several months ago. All the victims die of poison. No one knew how the victims were afflicted by the poison. All the victims died in public places where a lot of people were around. Yet, no one saw anything. Maybe you have heard about such incidents?"
"I don’t follow everything that happens outside," Amon replied. "What does this case have to do with me?"
"It has something to do with your past. Can you tell me about the incident that happened when you were on your way here from White Cloud City?"
Amon could roughly guess where this was going. He now lamented the fact he didn’t spend the time to hide or destroy Wei Sui’s body.
He didn’t pause despite this thought running through his mind. "Again, what does that have to do with your case?" He asked.
Yan Fan chuckled. "Please, humor me, student Lin Mo."
"I don’t see why I must answer your questions if you won’t answer mine," Amon said. "Unless this is an interrogation? If it is, as I mentioned, please submit a formal request to the Royal Academy."
"Student Lin Mo, don’t get too overboard," Gao Xi said. "Don’t think I can’t request that to the principal."
"If you can, you will have already done that, won’t you? I don’t see you as someone who would consider it a need to give me face."
Gao Xi’s face went red. He had indeed met Principal Li Niang when Yan Fan came to visit, requesting that the academy summon Amon to meet Yan Fan. But after talking to Yan Fan, she concluded Amon had nothing to do with the case except for a probable coincidence in the past. Li Niang asked Gao Xi to bring Yan Fan to Amon’s residence as a guest instead of calling Amon over.
"Teacher Gao Xi, please don’t be angry. This is my fault," Yan Fan said. "It is fair for student Lin Mo to ask questions since this is a discussion, not an interrogation. Very well, student Lin Mo. I will answer your question. The reason I asked about your past is because someone you crossed from that past died under the same condition as the recent victims of the serial murders in this city."
’As I thought,’ Amon thought in his mind.
"Now, I understand during your travel from White Cloud City to here, you were intercepted by a group from the Wei Clan," Yan Fan resumed. "Your group and the group from the Wei Clan scattered after a skirmish. Can you tell me what happened afterward?"
"You mean after that lunatic woman from his clan tried to murder me in broad daylight?" Amon pointed at Wei Linkun. Wei Linkun’s body shivered in anger, but Yan Fan tapped his shoulder to keep him still. "I ran like hell. That was what I did. My life depended on it. If I fell to that lunatic woman’s hand, I’m finished."
"You said she never caught up to you?" Yan Fan asked.
"I wouldn’t be here if that happened, would I?" Amon asked back.
Yan Fan nodded. "That is true, but please assist me with something that is bugging my mind. I have checked the number of days between you leaving White Cloud City and compared it to the time when your group was intercepted, and then the time our city record registered your arrival at Qishurg City. Considering you should be traveling faster than before you are intercepted, you should have arrived in this city much sooner than you did. Yet, you arrived many days later. Do you mind explaining that?"
