Rise of The Demon General -
Chapter 211. The Enemy of My Enemy
Chapter 211: Chapter 211. The Enemy of My Enemy
"Do you think this letter is genuine?" Asked a burly man sitting behind a desk in a small office.
This burly man was the leader of the Sewer Snakes, Dao Se. His face was half covered by a scruffy beard. Despite the beard, his face showed that he was quite young. Standing across from his desk was a tall woman. Sitting at one corner of the office was a person in a hood.
"Yes. I found it on my desk inside my office at the underground arena," The tall woman, whose name was Gao Lan, said. "My office is always guarded. The guards swore they didn’t let anyone aside from me enter. To sneak into my office without being detected. Not to mention, sneaking through the heavy security of the underground arena, I don’t think such a capable intruder left that letter for a prank."
"Hm...," Dao Se read the letter again.
"Demon gang, is it? They are getting quite famous recently," The person in the hood remarked. The voice was that of a male.
"Indeed. Interestingly, they only attacked the Street Aristocrats’ establishments," Gao Lan said. "They have been a thorn for Street Aristocrats for several weeks now. We can easily occupy the Swirly Street District thanks to them."
"Hmph! The district would still be ours even without their meddling," Dao Se uttered.
"So, you mentioned the letter says the leader of the Demon Gang wishes to meet?" The hooded man asked.
"They are just wannabe hoodlums. Why should I bother with them?"
"Wannabe hoodlums wouldn’t have caused Lu Zu so much trouble. Does it say when and where they wish to meet?"
"No. The letter just says they wish to meet me. No other information. Hah! A stupid request. Let’s just ignore this..."
Sounds of knocking on the door interrupted their chat.
"What is it?!" Dao Se called.
The door opened. The person who knocked said, "Boss. There is someone outside. He said he was the leader of the Demon Gang. He wishes to speak with you."
Dao Se and Gao Lan frowned upon hearing it.
"How does he know I am here?" Dao Se asked.
The person at the door answered, "I don’t know, boss. He just came and asked. I already told him you are not here, but he is not leaving. He demanded I tell you about his visit. Should I bring some people to chase him away?"
"Are you sure he is part of the demon gang?" Gao Lan asked.
"If the rumor is to be trusted, then I say he looks the part."
"Damn it! I’m going to break the mouth of those who exposed my whereabouts," Dao Se cursed. "This place is supposed to be a hideout."
"I think he follows you here," The man in the hood told Gao Lan.
Gao Lan’s frown turned deeper. "I’m pretty sure I’m being careful not to be followed..."
"So, are you going to meet him?" The man in the hood asked Dao Se.
"Hmmph...," Dao Se grunted while contemplating.
"I say we hear what he has to say," Gao Lan suggested. "They haven’t shown any hostility to us."
"I agree. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend," The man in the hood added.
"Hmph! Very well then," Dao Se harrumphed. "Let him in! If I don’t like what he says, he can forget about getting out of here."
*
Dao Se’s hideout was a meat factory. He set up the meeting at the storage, where meat from large animals was hung. Along the walls were words of power. These words of power sterilized the room and prevented the meat from decaying.
Dao Se and Gao Lan were standing at one side of the room while his underlings lined along the two sides. The door on the wall opposite where Dao Se and Gao Lan were standing opened. The man who earlier knocked on their office door walked in with another person. This person wore a black suit covering his entire body and had a demon mask covering his face.
"Are you the leader of the Demon Gang?" Dao Se asked.
"I am," the man in the mask answered.
"Take off your mask. I don’t speak with a faceless person," Dao Se demanded.
"Very well," Amon removed his mask.
Dao Se and Gao Lan frowned. Although the man before them had a large body like an adult, his face showed he was still a teenager.
Dao Se’s frown turned into a scowl. He yelled, "Is this a joke? How dare you lie to me about being the leader of the Demon Gang!"
A strong aura radiated from him. This aura pressured everyone in the room. All his underlings standing by the side had the cultivation at the Human Realm. They winced from the pressure. Some took a step away from Dao Se on instinct.
Amon, however, never changed his expression. His body also didn’t budge.
This surprised Dao Se. He concealed his surprise, though. He focused his aether to increase the pressure of his aura. Yet, Amon still didn’t budge. It was his underlings who showed extreme discomfort from his action. Even Gao Lan by his side had to move away from him.
Amon maintained his stare at Dao Se. He never even blinked.
Dao Se finally retracted his pressure, to everyone’s relief. He then instructed, "Everyone except Gao Lan and this kid, get out!"
His underlings were happy with the order. They hurriedly scuffled out of the room. They didn’t want to experience their boss’ aura another time. Their hasty manner displeased Dao Se. He placed his underlings here to intimidate this so-called leader of the Demon Gang, but they ended up embarrassing him.
After the last person left, Dao Se asked again, "Are you truly the leader of the Demon Gang?"
"I am," Amon repeated the same answer.
"How old are you?"
"Fifteen," Amon answered.
"And you want me to believe the Demon Gang who turns the Street Aristocrats upside down is a fifteen-year-old kid?"
Amon shrugged. "That is the fact. If you don’t believe me, so be it."
"Very funny. Whether you walk out of here alive or not, it depends on whether you can make me believe you," Dao Se said.
