Chapter 192: Chapter 192. Rescued

When Amon saw Luan Xuan come at him, he put Pan Niang to his front as a meat shield. His other hand was holding a small stone. It was the Plane Shift Stone he had found in the ruin. He knew he had no chance against Luan Xuan. In an emergency, he planned to use the stone and send Luan Xuan to another dimension.

But before Luan Xuan arrived, the wall nearby exploded. A figure burst out of the broken wall and crashed into Luan Xuan.

At a speed difficult to see with human eyes, the two exchanged hundreds of blows in the air before a powerful shockwave forced the two away from each other.

After the two separated, Amon could now see the person who had forced Luan Xuan to back off. He was a man in soldier armor. His face looked young, but Amon understood that in this world, a young appearance didn’t mean the person was truly young.

To be able to beat Luan Xuan back, Amon estimated this man was at least the same cultivation level as Luan Xuan, at the intermediate Spirit stage.

"Senior Captain Xu Bao!" Li Shi called after seeing this man.

Xu Bao turned to her and asked, "Chief archeologist. Tell me. Is this the man who killed my brother?"

Li Shi nodded. Xu Bao was Captain Xu Shi’s older brother. Even though Li Shi didn’t directly see Luan Xuan kill Xu Shi, he was the one carrying Xu Shi’s body when they attacked the ruin.

After getting the confirmation, Xu Bao turned to Luan Xuan with an angry expression. "Return my brother’s life to me!!"

A spear appeared in Xu Bao’s hand. He swung the spear a few times. Every swing sent a destructive energy that easily pierced the walls around them.

Luan Xuan whirled around, evading the sharp energies. As he was dodging, a large red round shield appeared in his hands. With the shield, he blocked Xu Bao’s spear energies.

Luan Xuan threw his shield at Xu Bao like a chakram. On its way, sharp blades came out around the edges of the shield. The shield also created a small twister as it spun at high speed.

Xu Bao channeled his aether into his spear until it glowed brightly. As if holding a spear made of light, he struck the incoming chakram shield. But every time the shield was smacked away, it recoiled back again.

The exchanges went on for some time. Xu Bao kept repelling the shield while Luan Xuan controlled it from a distance.

While controlling his shield, he watched his subordinates getting pushed back. Many had fallen. He knew then they couldn’t stay. If only the other two elders were still here. Unfortunately, Pan Luhuan and Ni Lulu had left once they brought the student captives here. They had duties in other hideouts, after all.

Luan Xuan turned and looked at where Amon was. He gritted his teeth and made a difficult choice.

"Retreat...!!" He called.

Every rebel started running away once the order was given. They had been waiting for it for quite a while. They had even almost considered running by themselves if Luan Xuan still insisted on fighting.

Luan Xuan flew away while controlling his shield to keep Xu Bao busy. Once he was a distance away, he summoned his shield back.

"Come back here, you fiend...!" Xu Bao shouted. He was not going to let his brother’s murderer escape. He took to the air and gave chase.

Many soldiers also chased the other rebels who were fleeing. Some rebels who didn’t have movement arts were caught and slain on the spot.

Some more clear-headed soldiers saw Li Shi and came to her aid.

"Chief Archeologist Li Shi, are you hurt? Send healers...!"

"I’m fine. I am fine," Li Shi said softly. She was just glad that she was saved.

"What about the academy students? We understand you went to the ruin with the students. We didn’t find their corpses in the ruin. We assume they were taken with you."

"They are, but only two are left," Li Shi pointed at Amon and Pan Niang.

"One!" Amon uttered. "This one is a traitor."

Amon pushed Pan Niang to the ground. Before anyone could react, Amon used his Bone Shattering Shadow Fist to the back of Pan Niang’s head. Sandwiched between Amon’s fist and the ground, Pan Niang’s head burst from the pressure, leaving a puddle of blood and brain on the ground.

"You...! Even if she is a traitor, she should be caught and interrogated!" The soldier scolded.

"There are plenty of them your friends are still chasing. Have them catch one alive," Amon responded calmly.

The soldier was dissatisfied with Amon, but what was done was done. He ordered the others to secure Li Shi and Amon and brought them out of there.

They escorted Amon to the nearest checkpoint station, which was around three days of travel. There, the two of them could finally rest.

"Lin Mo..., what Pan Niang said about you killing Lei Gun... Is it true?" Li Shi asked. They were given the same room to rest.

"It is," Amon answered flatly.

"... Do you mind telling me what happened?"

"Pan Niang gave us two a choice. Whoever slays the others will be allowed to live. I don’t have a choice," Amon lied. He had purposefully killed Pan Niang so that he could weave the story to his convenience.

"What about that thing they are looking for? They called it the Allure Beacon. How do you know of it?"

"It was something I had read in the past. I saw a similar item carved on one of the walls on the ruin."

"Why didn’t you tell me about that carving when you saw it?" Li Shi asked.

"I didn’t know it was important. I’m also not sure the carving was truly the Allure Beacon. I made a gamble when I told Pan Niang about it. She planned to kill me even after I did what she asked and slew Lei Gun," Amon lied again. "Luckily for me, it is truly the Allure Beacon they are looking for."
