Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse
Chapter 160: Found the Target

Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Found the Target

As Lu Zhen explained what was happening to his assistant, in a different location, a group of men were discussing him and Leng Pan.

"Vortex, has there been any movement?" Blaze asked.

He was the most worried about this mission because it had been his responsibility to locate and bring back the catalyst core but he had let it fall in the wrong hands.

"Yes, this time, I can’t be wrong. Even though the space fluctuation was faint and the duration short, it had been activated on the eastern region of the city.

That place should be filled with residential communities. It is not going to be simple to find the exact location and find the person, but at least now we gave a specific direction. As long as it is used again and the duration is longer, I can pinpoint it immediately. So, we should focus on that side for now." Vortex finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He had also been under a lot of stress because every day that they did not find the thing that the commander wanted was a nightmare. He had gone from being excited about the possibility of finding something that could make him more powerful to being wary.

He now started to doubt whether it was a good idea to find that catalyst core, whatever it was. Seeing how obsessed the leader was, he could tell that the thing was probably dangerous. But he had no choice.

Their leader practically controlled their lives and since the experiment, they could only crave to become stronger. They had become blades in commander Qiu’s hands and no longer resembled soldiers but were more like executioners.

"Then we should go there now and see if we can find something. It would be good to at least be able to narrow down the area of our search." Raze said, as eager as ever to find the person with the meteorite and gain more power.

Silk on the other hand was becoming even more skeptical and also starting to question this mission. Over the last few days he had come to understand that this mission wasn’t as innocent as it seemed.

Moreover, the meteorite they were after didn’t originally belong to them. It had fallen from the sky and someone had gotten it before their team did. In that case, this should already be the other party’s property.

As soldiers, they had no right to take this meteorite from the other party by force unless it endangered the citizens or the country. However, the country had already collapsed, so whatever the leaders did was most likely for their own benefits.

In that case, wasn’t taking this meteorite that the commander kept insisting could enhance their power an act of robbery. Moreover, from the recent phone calls that the commander had made, it seemed like he had somehow figured out who had taken the meteorite and wanted to eliminate them when they took the meteorite.

Silk didn’t think this was right. The person was not a threat. They were no terrorists or anything. Why did the commander seem to have a grudge against them?

With all these doubts in his mind, Silk didn’t tell anyone else about his thoughts because he was aware of the consequences.

Their leader seemed to have changed after the apocalypse and become a different person. He was harsh and would punish them at any time for the smallest mistakes.

What disturbed him even more was the fact that soldiers were being used to rob normal citizens. Thinking of this, he thought to himself that what they were doing carrying out this mission was the same as attacking and robbing an ordinary citizen.

He decided to start his own private investigation and his aim was to learn more about that experiment that gave them special abilities.

For this, he needed to find Mr. Li, the head of security at the laboratory. There were many suspicious details he had ignored before. Like why none of them could remember the process of their experiment in the laboratory.

How did they forget everything about the lab, even its location after their enhancement? He wanted to find out.

Some of the information he had found before suggested that Li was in the capital city. In that case, they were now within the same city. He hoped that he would be able to find him soon. Preferably, before finding the person with that meteorite.even though he had to follow orders, if this mission was meant to hurt innocent people, he would not do it.

The other men in the room didn’t have as many thoughts as Silk. All they wanted was to complete their mission and go back to the base. Even though they were soldiers, walking among zombies every day while looking for their target was starting to make them feel like one.

No matter how well trained people are, some unusual things would take a toll on their mental state if they are exposed to a situation long enough. That was the reason all of them were eager to find the meteorite and go back.

At a military base, Commander Qiu paced in his office walking back and forth for a while before sitting down.

He hoped that his speculation was wrong. If the person who had gotten the catalyst core was her, then it won’t be long before she awakened. If she regained her memories before they secured the planet, things were going to end up like the last time.

They didn’t have the luxury of waiting for another few thousand years to rebuild the earth again. Whether this person was her or not, they had to be taken out as soon as possible.

However, the Dominion squad was too principled. Even with characters like Raze who had problems, he would not kill an innocent person just because he ordered it.

It looked like once the person was located, he had to use the second and hidden trump card.
