Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Extending Family Bloodline
"Really? That’s good. I will worry less if you have Lu Zhen with you when you go out." Assistant Yao’s mother was happy that her son could work together with Lu Zhen again.
To be honest, it’s not that she didn’t trust her son, but she was worried that the people he goes out with were not trustworthy.
Even though Yao had been working as Lu Zhen’s assistant for years, she was aware that the two of them were more like brothers. That was why she felt relieved that they could continue to work together at this point when everyone’s life was in danger at all times.
She didn’t have to worry even if something happened to her, she was sure that her son would be fine.
"Then let me cook you something to eat first before we start to pack." Assistant Yao’s mother said as she stood up to head to the kitchen.
"No need for that mom, we already ate before coming here. We can just pack what we need and take them downstairs. Pack whatever you want to take. We don’t need anything bulky that has no sentimental value.
Just take what you feel you cannot live with, leave everything else behind." Assistant Yao advised his mother then headed to his bedroom to pack.
He didn’t need much and came back out in about five minutes pulling one suitcase. He put it down in the living room and headed to the storeroom to start moving the food and the other supplies placed there.
Lu Zhen and his brother followed him to help out. Soon, the living room was filled with supplies. They found some boxes somewhere and started packing the supplies inside categorized according to their uses.
The kitchen was also packed away. When assistant Yao’s mother came out of her bedroom with two large suitcases, everything was ready to be moved.
"You packed so many things so quickly?" She was surprised that they could work so fast. It seemed that moving to join Lu Zhen was indeed a good choice.
"This is nothing, auntie, you sit here and wait, we will move these things to the truck then you can go down with us on the last trip." Lu Tao suggested this because they couldn’t leave her alone in the truck when they started moving the supplies to the truck.
"Alright, I’ll wait, you guys can go." She agreed immediately because she also realized that following them would turn her into a burden.
The three took three trips to move everything down to the ground floor and load them into the truck before assistant Yao went back upstairs to get his mother and came down with her two suitcases.
They then got into the truck and left.
Upon getting into the community where Lu Zhen lived with his family, the few people left the truck and took the elevator to the floor where their apartments were located. It seemed that Leng Pan could smell her husband from afar because as soon as he got out of the elevator, she had already ran to open the door for them.
Leng Pan was in such a hurry that when she opened the door, she almost bumped straight into her husband who was about to input the password on the electric lock of the door.
"Baby, where are you running off to?" Lu Zhen asked as he caught the little woman who seemed to have flown out of the house.
"I sensed that you were nearby and I came to check, I didn’t expect you to be so near." Leng Pan replied before moving backwards and leaving her husband’s arms.
It was only then that she realized that there were more people there, including an elder. She felt a little embarrassed and shy to have a stranger see her behaving so intimately with Lu Zhen.
She usually didn’t care much about such behavior because her family was already used to it, but for others, it wasn’t the same.
"Hello auntie, come in and sit down first. Let the men do the heavy work of arranging the house. You can go home once they are done." Leng Pan could only thicken her skin and pretend that nothing had happened so that she wouldn’t be too embarrassed, after all, she was a firm believer of the saying ’If I don’t feel awkward, others will feel awkward’.
Auntie Yao was amused by how quickly Leng Pan changed the subject to save face but didn’t comment on it. It was such a refreshing scene to see a young couple still so in love even when the world was falling apart.
She had witnessed in their building a husband and wife who had been married for almost ten years turning against each other because the husband accused his wife of eating too much when there wasn’t even enough food at home.
With people loving to gossip so much, it wasn’t difficult to find out that the husband was mad because his wife had cooked a whole packet of noodles for herself. According to the husband, there was scarcity of food and the wife should have split the pack of noodles into two meals instead of one.
She could not imagine a man arguing with a woman over a packet of noodles. Therefore, seeing such a young couple still in love and willing to support each other touched her heart.
She hoped that her son would also find someone in the future. Although the world was ending, she didn’t believe that humanity would be wiped out completely.
She hoped that in the end, humans could overcome the virus that had taken the lives of almost 90% of the human population and rise again to fill the earth. She hoped that in that surviving group, her descendants would be among them.
Thus, she hoped for her son to find someone as loving and as supportive as Leng Pan who will be willing to continue the family line regardless of the risks.
