Chapter 348: Chapter 146 Exposure at the Start

Aske said it would probably be another twenty minutes. In fact, everyone had waited nearly forty minutes before finally encountering the target monster.

At Starnberg Lake, there circulated a peculiar legend: the Duchy’s previous mad king, Ludwig, due to his long-term neglect of political affairs, had incited dissatisfaction and a coup among the high-level internal members of the Duchy. Eventually, he was overthrown and imprisoned by his family and then one day, died in Starnberg Lake.

Officially, it was said he died by drowning, but what was strange was that the autopsy proved there was no water in his lungs. After that, successive reports from residents emerged, claiming to have seen Ludwig’s ghost wandering on the lake’s surface, evading the soldiers who had plotted his murder.

This legend sounded quite dramatic, so countless players boated on Starnberg Lake, carrying out a dense human dragnet search, and ultimately found the wild map BOSS—even calling him a BOSS might be too generous, for this fellow was too annoying, fleeing immediately upon encounter, without the slightest awareness of a BOSS’s dignity.

Plus, he was in a spiritual body state, capable of floating in the air. If one was boating on the lake’s surface, it was absolutely impossible to outrun him.

Thus, another major player tried tracking him all day without alarming him and finally discovered that at twilight, he would go to a small island in the lake named "Villette."

Villette Island, also known as Rose Island, got its name because Ludwig, during his lifetime, had planted it full of roses to win his aunt’s affection. The island spanned about 2-5 hectares, making it entirely feasible to deploy personnel and effectively surround and kill this BOSS.

Consequently, every evening, a blood-stained and bloody storm would erupt on this small island, with numerous players lying in ambush, waiting for the BOSS to arrive and then violently attacking in a surround kill strategy, which eventually led to them attacking each other until it was a complete mess.

After this BOSS was killed, the body would slowly vanish, leaving behind only a pool of extremely sticky "Tears of Horror." The next day, it would resurrect beneath the cross in the middle of the lake, thus the island saw constant brawls year-round, nearly becoming a dueling ground for various guild and studio players from nearby.

In this world, hardly anyone else came to contest the BOSS with them. So everyone patiently waited at the best ambush spots until they saw a strange cloud drifting from the direction of the lake’s center.

That was a cloud resembling quantum mist, with countless tiny white points of light that continuously blinked in and out in mid-air, varying brightness forming a three-dimensional image: a tall, handsome nobleman with brown curly hair and a slightly receding hairline, his expression deeply melancholic.

Seeing the "self-pitying" Eleanor on the island, his expression twisted for a moment, as if struggling to conceal a surge of joy, then he suddenly sped up and floated over, shouting loudly,

"Aunt! My dear aunt!"

Aske: ...

Why did it suddenly feel like we had walked onto the set of The Return of the Condor Heroes?

Elegantly turning around, Eleanor’s expression also seemed somewhat sorrowful as her acting flared, she said,

"You’ve finally arrived..."

"No, you are not her!" The man’s image abruptly stopped a few steps away from Eleanor.

Eleanor: !!!

She didn’t know why she had given herself away as soon as she opened her mouth, and could only try to buy time, her right hand swiftly making gestures behind her back:

"What are you talking about? I..."

"Aunt was born a blonde, but she dyed it light brown later!" the fearful spirit clamored, "Because she didn’t like being blonde! It makes her look stupid! Blonde dummy!"

Eleanor: ......

To be foiled by hair color, Aske was also speechless, then promptly jumped down from a tree and issued the command to Strong Kill:

"Take action!"

Mia was the first to appear from the Shadow Realm, simultaneously releasing Nora and Medea.

Mind implantation + Spirit Possession!

Suddenly, a certain illusion surged in Fear, as if the beautiful blonde woman standing in front of him was indeed deeply rooted in his memory—the cousin who haunted his dreams.

However, the strong mind resistance from the Spiritual Body soon made him realize something was amiss—these were foreign thoughts! His own mind had been invaded!

It was this moment of distraction that allowed seven or eight transparent Spiritual Bodies to quickly surround him, all of which were the lost souls of those who had drowned in the nearby lake, mindless existences manipulated by Nora’s ability, clawing viciously at Fear.

Fear seemed startled and took a half step back, then raised his head and opened his mouth wide.

"Step back!" Aske’s instruction rang out in time.

As the three of them dodged backward, invisible ripples emitted from Fear’s mouth instantly caused the surrounding cluster of Spiritual Bodies to burst apart.

Spirit Scream.

Although the damage of this powerful move decreased with distance, even the three who had moved back still suffered a certain amount of injury.

Nora, possessing both mind and Spiritual Body defensive abilities, was the least injured; Medea was next, while Mia’s eyes rolled back, nearly fainting from the impact.

Suddenly, the Spirit Scream halted abruptly, Fear, with his neck craned, was entangled in lightning, then coated in Frost—North Wind Axe passed through his transparent body, causing no physical damage, but the Frost damage was fully effective.

Sigrdrifa had already rushed forward, and Eleanor, tearing off the inconvenient long skirt (which made Medea’s eyelids twitch), pulled out a Longsword and charged.

"Peggy!" Aske’s command came again.

Facing the attack from both front and back, Fear didn’t choose to defend or dodge; instead, he picked a direction and fled rapidly.

Directly towards Peggy.

Peggy, having received the order in advance, sprang from the recess in the high ground and intercepted Fear’s escape route, swiftly swinging her Longsword in the air.

It was around 6:30 PM, and the last All-Sight satellite had just dipped below the horizon; thus, Peggy cast Undead Illusion Sword. Now Level 7, she created eight illusions, instantly blocking every direction in a 180-degree arc directly in front of Fear.

Seeing the glowing hot radiance on the adversary’s Hot Melt Blade, Fear dared not directly face the High-Temperature damage with his Spiritual Body and quickly halted and turned back, facing Eleanor and Sigrdrifa, who were chasing from behind. After a slight hesitation, he charged towards Eleanor.

Eleanor swung her sword horizontally, but Fear, without showing any reaction, activated Voidification. The Longsword passed through his formless body without any resistance.

The invisible Fear passed right through her body and, taking advantage of the momentum, swiftly slid in another direction, vanishing into the air with his natural Invisibility ability.

However, an unexpected Radiance suddenly shot towards where he disappeared.

Radiance I, a Level of Radiance Ability usually useless except to dazzle, was highly effective against certain creatures,

Such as those entering the Shadow Realm or Shadow Ability Users, and the invisibly fleeing Fear.

Composed of countless dim light points, Fear was forced to reveal his misty form when exposed to the Radiance. Thira’s Storm immediately followed, blowing the chaotic mist of light back into the cluster surrounding the nobles.

"Retreat!" Before the group could begin their focused attack, Aske’s command timely arrived again.

The group hastily stepped back, only to see the mist swiftly gathering back into the likeness of a nobleman, who then raised his head and emitted the second Spirit Scream.
