Chapter 209: Chapter 7: Dragon Continuous Attack

Aske agilely leaped backward, dodging the enemy’s large pincers’ attack, and explained to Eleanor:

"The essence of Spear Shield Flow lies in the suppression of enemy movement."

His long spear stabbed rapidly, and the monster across from him wanted to move forward to continue the assault but was frightened by the continuous thrusts from the spear, forcing it to stay just outside Aske’s striking range. It screamed and thrashed about, its eyes revealing a vicious glare.

"The maximum reach of the long spear is around 2 meters (the length of the arm plus the grip to the tip of the spear), and for the shield, it’s 0.7 meters (the length of the arm). That is to say, the maximum reach for Spear Shield Flow is 2 meters."

Aske leaped back again, demonstrating a thrust with the long spear, but he struck the air because the distance was too far: "Beyond this range, one must change the grip on the spear to adjust the striking range, but this shifts the weapon’s center of gravity forward, making it much harder to control. Generally, this isn’t recommended."

The monster had no idea what he was saying; it seemed that upon realizing it was a monster, it had lost all human sanity, left only with the desire to hunt and attack.

Unable to breach Aske’s defense, the creature turned its blood-red gaze to Eleanor, ready to pounce on her. Aske gracefully spun around, swinging his spear, and with an Iron Cutting move, he sent the monster, that had leaped into the air, flying away at the waist.

"Generally speaking, the striking range of Spear Shield Flow has two layers, with the most effective range of the long spear being between 1.7 to 2 meters. If a monster gets within 1.7 meters, it means you don’t have enough time to fully extend your arm to exert force, and the spear will strike the enemy too soon, resulting in insufficient power in the thrust."

"At that point, you either retreat to increase the distance, maintaining the enemy-at-me distance between 1.7 to 2 meters," Aske said calmly as the monster he’d knocked away was getting up from the ground, thrashing its limbs in madness as it charged once more.

"Or, you close the distance further until the enemy is within 0.7 meters. That is your second layer of striking range, the range of the shield’s attack."

He suddenly flung his left hand, wielding the shield, and hit the rushing monster head-on—it was as if it had run into a wall, being struck hard and sent flying again.

"The optimum striking range for the shield is 0.3 to 0.7 meters." Aske did not pursue the attack but turned and explained to Eleanor, "Remember, the function of the shield is not to inflict damage, but to force the enemy to reposition through impact, bringing them back into the range of the spear, and then causing damage with the spear, understand?"

"I understand," Eleanor nodded earnestly.

"Long spear for killing, shield for repositioning; this is the basic principle of Spear Shield Flow tactics," Aske said while casually waving his spear a few times, "Now, let’s talk about specific techniques."

"The four Spear Skills of the long spear, as we’ve discussed before, are ’Dragon Spear’ for control, ’Cloud Piercing’ for armor penetration, ’Iron Cutting’ for knocking back, and ’Spiral Charge’ for breaking defense." Aske enumerated the moves calmly while demonstrating the four major Spear Skills on the monster, inflicting a vicious and ghastly beating that was cruel and horrifyingly brutal.

"Four Spear Skills, with appropriate adjustments, transformations, and combinations, can become a combo with fewer openings and greater power, what we call High Rank techniques."

As he spoke, Aske launched another Iron Cutting move, once again sending the monster flying away, while the spear tip vibrated in a half-spin, drawing a sharp white arc on the ground:

"Look carefully, this move is called ’Dragon Continuous Attack.’"

Dragon Continuous Attack, one of the major moves that originated and became popular in the professional circle, does not exist in the world of "Iron and Fire."

Of course, if it existed, it wouldn’t be called such a chuuni name as ’Dragon Continuous Attack.’ With the naming logic of NPCs in the West, it might end up being something like "Paulus Hector Mairs Spear," certainly a tongue-twister and hard to remember.

Aske quickly stepped forward, rapidly thrusting the long spear towards the monster that had just risen from the ground.

"Is that, Dragon Spear?" Eleanor intently watched his movements, "No, the angle of the toss is incorrect!"

A standard Dragon Spear would use the tip to lift the enemy and then swing it horizontally while spinning.

However, at this moment, Aske, after picking up the enemy with Dragon Spear, didn’t choose to spin and swing the spear. Instead, he lifted his arm sharply upward, swinging the monster attached to it in a large circle over his head and smashing it hard onto the ground!

The monster’s huge body slammed into the ground and actually bounced up, indicating how tremendous the force of the impact was.

However, Eleanor quickly noticed that Aske had already slightly sunk his stance, bending one knee, and then thrust his long spear upwards with rapid force.

Cloud Piercing! And it was three consecutive Cloud Piercings!

Leveraging the force from the lower body springing up, the three consecutive, highly destructive Cloud Piercings instantly penetrated the monster’s body. The latter didn’t even have time to let out a scream before being sent flying by the force of the triple Cloud Piercing.

Aske finally retracted his spear and simultaneously dashed to the side of the creature, his right hand drawing the long spear to the far left as if he were a batter in a baseball game about to execute a powerful move:

Iron Cutting!

The monster, impaled and floating in the air, took the full brunt of the Iron Cutting, being mercilessly sent flying away.

"Did you see it clearly?" Aske turned back and asked Eleanor.

"Mhm," Eleanor nodded, "First the Dragon Spear smashed the enemy to the ground, then the Cloud Piercing Triple hit, followed by the Iron Cutting blow to send it flying, right?"

"That’s correct." Aske replied, "Do you want to give it a try?"

"Alright." Eleanor responded gravely and went forward with her Shield and Spear toward the creature.

After taking a set of powerful moves from Aske, the monster was still able to shakily stand up, which spoke volumes about its vitality. Eleanor charged forward swiftly, starting with an extremely fast Dragon Spear, stabbing into the monster’s shattered chest armor.

Then, she swung her long spear overhead, crashing it down toward the ground!

"No!" Eleanor pulled out her long spear, quickly jumping back to evade the counterattack, "What’s going on?"

"Why couldn’t I pull the long spear out when I smashed it into the ground?"

"Did you notice that?" Aske stood to the side, cradling his long spear, speaking indifferently, "Because of the weapon’s length, before you can fling the enemy away, your spear’s tip will strike the ground prematurely."

"In that situation, how could you optimize? Think about it."

"I’ve got it!" Eleanor recalled the previous scene once again, suddenly remembering a key detail.

Then she used her Shield to block the monster’s pincer attack while her right hand thrust the long spear out again, lifting the entire monster up.

Next, as she swung it in a circle, she powerfully jumped upward with both feet!

Since her body was in mid-air, thus increasing the distance from the ground, when the monster was smashed toward the ground, the spear tip had already been withdrawn from its body.

With the creature bouncing in the air from the enormous force of the impact on the ground, Eleanor had already landed, then she lowered her body, bent her knees, and rapidly thrust her long spear upward.

Cloud Piercing Triple!

The first Cloud Piercing caused the opponent to scream in pain; the second one gushed out a large amount of greenish filth; by the third one, the monster twitched momentarily on the spear shaft, then its head lolled lifelessly to the side, dead.

"Eh?" Eleanor was somewhat frustrated, "I haven’t even had a chance to use the last move, how could you just fall down like that?"
