Chapter 115: Chapter 19 Post-War Report
Distance, ten steps.
The zombie abandoned its oppression of the crowd, and the erupting flames surged clockwise rapidly, sweeping toward Aske with unstoppable force.
Aske, on the other hand, turned to his right front, circumnavigating the zombie clockwise, while still maintaining a high speed of approach.
At this rate, his longsword would pierce the zombie’s body before the flames could reach him.
Distance, five steps.
The zombie stopped spraying flames and suddenly swelled its body as invisible gravitational ripples shock out.
Gravitational shock.
Aske halted abruptly during his charge, his longsword plunging into the ground.
The gravity wave that changed directions emanated from the zombie at the center, radiating outward in every direction.
Aske grabbed onto his longsword, his entire body pulled sideways by the altered gravity.
The next second, a gunshot like thunder rang out.
The elephant hunting bullet struck the zombie’s chest, completely exploding its upper body.
The spiritual body of the zombie’s head glared at Aske with venom.
With his powerful spirituality and combat experience, he hadn’t been able to see clearly what kind of gun had been fired.
As a result, he was completely unable to dodge the attack.
The body fell from the air to the ground and did not move again.
With the body damaged like this, not even the movement of its arms was possible, leaving no chance of victory.
Thus, the backstage demigod immediately discarded it without hesitation.
The scorching flames gradually extinguished, while Thira continued to maintain the barrage of fierce winds.
The others maintained their vigilant combat stances.
Because no one could be sure if the fallen zombie would jump up the next second, killing anyone unprepared.
Only Aske, forcefully pulling his longsword from the ground, walked over to the zombie and looked for a moment.
Then he turned and walked towards the distance.
The others were then convinced that Alexander’s body was truly dead, the manipulator behind the scenes had departed, and they rushed forward to surround the body.
Colby took out the Night Watchman’s Holy Nail and pierced the body’s limbs, which would bind the undead power within, preventing it from flowing.
There was supposed to be another nail for the forehead, but the body no longer had a head.
Phibes used the intact arm to brand the skin of the body with a talisman inscribed with a restful secret text.
To ensure the body was thoroughly sealed.
Once the branding of the talisman was complete, the task was done.
The Night Watch Knights suddenly felt an extreme sense of exhaustion.
The kind where you feel as though you’ve done countless things, but on reflection realize you’ve done nothing at all.
The mercenaries of The Azure Longsword were jubilantly cheered to see Aske return with Peggy, who had awakened.
Peggy was still slightly disoriented, as if she hadn’t fully woken up yet, and relied on Aske’s support to stand firmly.
Nora quickly went over to check her and concluded that she was very healthy.
Of course, for more detailed information, they would have to wait until they left this place to ask further.
After all, it was not advisable to linger here.
——————
"Here, a total of 60 bullets," Nora said while holding a small cloth bag, "I picked them all up for you!"
The Netherworld belongs to a special realm map, where visibility, mind power, and even radio signals are strongly suppressed.
If a Transcendent has an Extraordinary Item that can affect the Netherworld, they can twist the spatial structure there to some extent, thus disorienting the direction sense of those trapped within.
For example, you feel like you are walking straight, but you’re actually veering starkly to the left. Or, you feel like you’re moving in circles but actually spiraling forward, and so on.
Of course, for professional players, knowing how to deal with various maps is the most basic common knowledge.
Aske had a very simple solution here: the bullet-dropping method.
Having split off from the main group, with every step he took, he dropped a bullet onto the ground.
To find him, the following team just had to follow the trail of bullets on the ground, no sense of direction needed.
After collecting the bullets, Aske then saw Nora take out a small cloth bag and grab a handful of something from it.
"What is this?" he asked curiously.
"Seeds," Nora replied. "They are seeds of low-level Extraordinary Plants, bought from the Night Watchman at a cheap price. I plan to plant them on Fire Island, just near the manor to build a big flower garden."
"In at most another ten years, they’ll be able to bloom beautiful flowers~"
"Wouldn’t it be better to buy some flowers that grow faster, like the Alps rose or Christmas Calan?" Aske said. "Ten years seems too long."
"No problem, I can wait," Nora hummed a tune and walked away, seeming to be in a very happy mood.
In the Real Plane.
Having left the Undead Sky and returned to the tent encampment, the teams were warmly welcomed by the remaining Night Watch Knights — although it was only for a few minutes.
After all, the Night Watch Knights did not have the tradition of holding victory celebrations.
Soon, the Night Watchman began to busy themselves again: knights burying the dead, priests tallying losses, and the higher-ups starting to write materials, preparing to report to headquarters.
"Lord Blaise, this..." The secretary to the Commander at the Night Watchman headquarters in Florence received the preliminary report from the East Legion and smiled wryly.
"You mean to say an Undead System Demigod tried to resurrect Alexander the Great, had already taken control of his body, and was ultimately defeated by you."
"Yes," Commander Blaise said.
"And your East Legion’s casualty rate is less than 10%?"
"Yes."
"Alexander the Great’s body was also sealed and brought back by you."
"Yes."
"When I report this up, I’m sure to be scolded by the Commander!" the secretary of the Commander sighed and said, "Moreover, please be cautious with this matter, Lord Blaise."
"For them to so easily ’hand over’ Alexander’s body to you, there must be a secret plot in it, perhaps the body has been tampered with."
"I understand. What I need to explain is that the final battle to take the body was not easy." Blaise paused, realizing that this statement did not match his "own casualty rate of less than 10%" at all, and hurriedly added:
"In fact, if it weren’t for the help of a Mercenary Group, our casualty rate would have probably exceeded half long ago, and we might not have been able to regain Alexander’s body."
At this point, visions of widespread flames and fire streams, as well as the smell of melting soil and char appeared before his eyes.
"A Mercenary Group?" the secretary asked for confirmation.
"Yes, its name is The Azure Longsword," Blaise said.
Never heard of it... The secretary typed the name The Azure Longsword into the computer, about to search online, when he suddenly asked:
"This Mercenary Group, wouldn’t happen to have its combat power concentrated on just a few people, would it?"
"Yes," Blaise said, "Mostly thanks to Lord Aske, the Squad Leader."
Just as I thought, the secretary figured.
This must be some famous Sword Master, who, for some special reason (like training or entertainment), joined anonymously this little-known small Mercenary Group and just happened to help the East Legion on a whim during this Mutant incident.
The name Aske, must surely be a pseudonym, there’s no point in reporting it upward...
"Lord Blaise, could I trouble you to introduce me to this Aske?" the secretary asked.
"Hm, sure." Blaise knew this secretary was a real connector with extensive contacts among the high-ranking officials of various countries, so he was happy to mediate between him and Aske.
"He is in our camp, I’ll have Phibes bring him over."
Ten minutes later.
"What? He’s gone?!"
"Yes," Phibes was also sweating, "According to the Guards at the gate, they packed up and left half an hour ago. Since there were no orders from above, the Guards didn’t stop them."
Blaise: .........
I indeed didn’t issue such an order, but could you not have shown a little sensitivity! The biggest hero of this Undead Mutant incident and a foreign Guest Elder, definitely should have been retained for further interaction. How could he be let go so easily?
However, he noticed Phibes’s left hand bandaged with plaster and a splint, his originally reprimanding words did not come out, and instead turned into a long, regretful sigh.
