Chapter 101 - 7 Black Knight
Chapter 101: Chapter 7 Black Knight
"I feel like the extraordinary power gained from killing ghouls is a bit little," Sigrdrifa said.
"First of all, experience points, that is extraordinary power gained from killing, naturally suffers attrition," Aske explained. "Furthermore, if the sequence of the opponent is vastly different from your own, there will be an additional loss due to the disparity."
"For an undead spirit like a ghoul, if we consider its extraordinary power to be 100%, then Peggy, as an undead system transcendent, can absorb about 14% of it, while others can only get a single digit percentage."
"The easiest extraordinary power to farm would still be like the Frank Knights we fought last time. They haven’t ingested any magic potion and their level is zero, but their bodies have accumulated a large amount of pure extraordinary power."
"Just considering natural attrition, this kind of featureless extraordinary power can achieve an absorption rate of 20%."
"Based on what you’re saying, fighting extraordinary creatures is not worth it," Eleanor pondered for a moment and then said, "No, that’s wrong, fighting extraordinary creatures should aim to harvest spiritual materials."
"Exactly," Aske agreed. "To get spiritual materials, you go into instances, do archeology, explore ruins, and fight extraordinary creatures; to enhance one’s own attributes, you become a mercenary, go to the battlefield, and fight with humans like us."
"What are the spiritual materials of these ghouls?" Peggy asked.
"A mutated brain pituitary," Aske said. "But we have no use for it, the ghoul’s pituitary is the material for undead series magic potions. We can just sell it directly to the Night Watch Knights."
"Then I’ll go and negotiate with them later," Nora said.
While The Azure Longsword Mercenary Corps discussed amongst themselves, the Night Watch Knights stood at a distance on the other side, keeping their distance from the mercenaries and the corpses of the ghouls.
This was actually a clear stance, indicating that the Night Watch Knights would not touch the materials on the ghouls; they belonged to The Azure Longsword.
"Don’t rush, it looks like the BOSS is coming," Aske said, looking at the distant hills without speaking.
The ladies followed his gaze towards that direction, which was where the ghoul horde had come from before.
"What’s that?" Eleanor suddenly noticed a vague dark figure on the opposing high ground, apparently approaching.
Miel promptly picked up the sniper rifle, looked through the high magnification scope, and warned:
"It’s a knight, a... strange knight."
Seeing The Azure Longsword all looking in the distance, the Night Watch Knights too cast their eyes that way. That glance immediately revealed the presence of the shadow.
"It’s the Black Knight!"
In the wild, if you encounter a Black Knight, the first response is to shoot, and in the strictly military-trained Night Watch organization, this has become dogma.
Four deep red searing beams were fired immediately towards the Black Knight hundreds of meters away.
They missed.
The Black Knight on the hill performed a roll, dodging all four laser attacks at once and charging rapidly towards this side.
"Tactical dispersion!" Hasimodo roared, rapidly firing a few shots in the direction of the Black Knight, "Mercenary leader over there! Have your close combat warriors keep their distance, maintain firearms support!"
"Wait, why do we close combat types have to stay away?" Sigrdrifa complained discontentedly.
"He just thinks you are not a match for the Black Knight," Aske said.
Sigrdrifa fell silent.
She would have liked to say "How do you know without trying?" but the Black Knight’s notorious fame, even in the North, was loud enough to silence a three-year-old.
Fearless, tireless, clad in Heavy Armor (and even deadlier if covered in Power Armor) impervious to blades and bullets, possessing all the martial arts experience from life, with an innate hatred for the living, they were undead monsters that knew only slaughter, almost always appearing to wipe out villages and towns.
Luckily on our side, we have the Night Watch Knights and the squad leader... Her peripheral vision glanced at the people around her, and she thought to herself.
"Wait for the BOSS to get close, everyone get ready to listen to my command," Aske said in the channel. "Keep the channel clear!"
"Understood!" All the ladies responded in unison.
So the field was left with the roars of the Night Watch Knights, the dull bursts of a laser rifle burning the air, and the sound of discarded batteries being ejected from the chamber.
Everyone held their breath and watched as the dark figure rapidly approached.
When the figure gradually got close, everyone then clearly saw that it was a Power Armor Knight.
Rust marks were all over the Power Armor, and parts of the exoskeleton showed signs of damage and distortion. The helmet was overgrown with moss, and on the very top was a little flower that trembled in the wind.
However, nobody dared to ridicule this Black Knight because he ran over at a very high speed, dodging most of the shots from the Night Watch Knights by jumping and rolling.
Even after more than a thousand years, the Power Armor’s single-phase nuclear fusion battery still provided power, and the dead inside the armor still had their lifetime’s martial arts experience and military training.
This was terrifying. It meant facing a Power Armor Knight in full battle capability, and this one also had the traits of an undead, without the weakness of having a fatal spot.
Even being stabbed directly in the brain or heart would not result in immediate death.
The Night Watch Knights’ tactic against the Black Knight was simple: keep the distance, shoot with guns, and keep shooting until it’s dead.
The Black Knight had already charged within a 50-meter distance, and everyone could almost smell the faint stench of decay mixed with dirt as two Shotgun Knights joined the firing squad.
Gunshots roared, thunder exploded, and a barrage of buckshot fired towards the Black Knight.
But the latter simply lifted his left shield arm, effortlessly blocking all the buckshot. He continued to charge forward, his right hand Longsword swung forward in a feint.
"Get out of the way!" Aske suddenly shouted a warning.
The girls were all well-trained, upon hearing Aske’s sudden order, they instinctively and immediately jumped back quickly. Meanwhile, the Night Watch Knights weren’t as responsive, still retreating and returning fire steadily.
In the next second, Knight Langri fell backward to the ground, his flame sprayer cleaved into two pieces, and the black military fuel flowed all over the place.
How could there be two Black Knights? Everyone on the scene couldn’t help but widen their eyes and saw a Black Knight with a sword and shield still charging toward them.
The other Black Knight stood in front of Langri, covered in fuel from the cleaved flame sprayer, and then dissipated into the air.
"What on earth is that thing!" Knight Lorent roared, aiming his shotgun at the Black Knight and opened fire furiously.
The latter held up a shield to block the bullets, and with his right hand, the longsword slashed again.
Having learned from past experiences, without needing Aske’s reminder, all the girls and the Night Watch Knights quickly performed evasive maneuvers.
Then they saw a figure burst out of the Black Knight, astonishingly another Black Knight who looked exactly the same, even with identical power armor and sword and shield.
This figure was even faster than the original, almost instantly rushing up to Peggy with a straight downward slash of the longsword.
With the sound of a gunshot, the Black Knight’s arm swinging the sword to slash was suddenly shattered and sent flying.
Peggy unbelievably lifted her head and realized that it was Aske in the distance who had drawn his gun in the blink of an eye, using an elephant hunting bullet to stop the fatal attack and at the same time shattered the Black Knight’s illusion.
"That is..." she said dreamily, her voice trembling.
"Extraordinary Swordsmanship—Illusion Sword," Aske sighed. "Everyone back off for now; this BOSS... isn’t something you can handle head-on."
The girls quickly retreated, only to hear Aske continue in the channel:
"Sigrdrifa, give me the Battle Axe."
"Medea, Desire Manipulation, target me."
"Thira, cast Light Body Skill on me."
A series of commands were issued, and the girls took action in an organized fashion like links in a chain. The Battle Axe was thrown over by Sigrdrifa, and Aske caught it, feeling the Light Body Skill swiftly taking effect on him—the air pressure was negating his gravity.
In the distance, the Black Knight, influenced by Desire Manipulation, had locked his attack target on Aske.
"The various techniques coming up, I will only demonstrate once, without explanation," Aske stated calmly, sword in right hand and axe in left, facing the Black Knight. He spoke to the girls through the channel, "The main point is to let you experience what combat at the professional level is like."
The Black Knight slashed with his sword again, an illusion separating from the body and charging with a thrust toward them.
Aske’s body sank briefly and then suddenly disappeared from the spot.
Ilanyian Assassin technique, Instant Step.
"So fast!" Peggy and Mia exclaimed in unison.
As agility-based warriors, they were well aware of what this scene meant—the speed of Aske’s burst was much faster than their own full speed.
The Black Knight’s illusion changed from thrust to slash mid-charge, longsword swinging down at the approaching figure.
Aske, rushing forward rapidly, was bent over, rolled, and with a flash of the sword that was hard to discern, the illusion was cut in two.
In less than two seconds, Aske had covered 20 meters and suddenly approached the Black Knight’s body.
"Be careful!" The Night Watch Knights screamed because the Black Knight had already swung his shield, smashing it fiercely forward.
With Aske’s high-speed sprint, if he were hit directly by this Shield Strike, smashing his skull on the spot was not out of the question.
As the shield swung down like a mountain crashing over, Aske’s form suddenly came to a screeching halt in front of it, seemingly ignoring inertia as he then leapt back, kicked up in a lightning-fast Reflex Charge, and his Battle Axe chopped down on the shield.
Ilanyian Assassin technique, two-stage Reflex Charge.
With a "crack," the inner blade of the Battle Axe hooked on the upper edge of the shield, and Aske already twisted and flew up, delivering an extremely fast Straight Stab mid-air!
Caucasian Assassination Skill, Shadow Hawk’s Raid!
The Black Knight quickly dodged by tilting his head, yet the longsword eerily altered its angle, still stabbing straight at the Black Knight’s armored helmet.
Star Nine Forms first form, Sharp-breaking. Ignoring any block or evasion, a sure hit.
Just as the longsword was about to pierce the armored helmet, the blade suddenly began to vibrate intensely. This peculiar vibration was maintained at a tiny amplitude, almost imperceptible to the naked eye, with only a faint sound of the sword’s hum.
But under this vibrating thrust, the originally hard steel of the power armor’s helmet was as if turned to papier-mâché, easily breached by the longsword, which went straight into the Black Knight’s skull and exited the other side.
Star Nine Forms second form, Heavy Breaking. Penetrates all physical defenses.
Although impaled through the forehead with a longsword, the Black Knight, as an Undead Spirit, did not die but instead waved his shield in a furious and ferocious manner.
Aske, airborne, stepped on his shield to accelerate his landing. He received the impact, rolled several steps away upon touching down, and then threw a Flying Axe.
Norman Axe Throwing Skill.
The Battle Axe spun with a howl through the air, hitting the Black Knight’s helmet—where the longsword had already pierced, early cracks had formed, and under the axe’s strike, it instantly shattered in all directions.
Steel fragments burst forth, revealing the unliving head underneath. Hair charred, skin shriveled, the nose completely rotted away, leaving only two bare holes.
"Rifle!" Aske shouted loudly.
Before the others could react, Eleanor had already stepped forward and hurled her Fine Gold Spear.
Aske dodged to avoid the Black Knight’s slashing attack and caught the spear falling from the sky. Using his waist to twist, and his arms to rotate, he executed a textbook Iron Cutting.
The point of the spear struck the Black Knight’s shriveled head from the side, as if hitting a watermelon with a heavy stick, the Black Knight’s head burst open.
